What an exciting month April was for us at Lakeview! Many of our students and staff spent the month putting the finishing touches on Seussical the Musical and the last week of the month saw them doing 7 performances! We are tremendously proud of all that they have accomplished. Special thanks go to Mrs. Scott and Mrs. Bohonos who were our Seussical directors, to Mrs. Versteeg and Mrs. Knerr for leading the chorus and to Mrs. Hellinga and team for the incredible artwork! We are so lucky to have so many talented people at our school. We hope that you were able to get out to see the show. There are some great photos to check out at the end of this newsletter. School Cash Online P A G E 3 N E W S L E T T E R

Thank you so much to the 83% of you who have registered for School Cash Online. Everyone has had so many good things to say about it and find it to be extremely convenient. Again, to those 17% of you who have not registered, even if you don’t plan on using the program to make purchases, we strongly encourage you to at least register so that you can receive email notifications of the events going on around the school.

We have had a few glitches—some created by ourselves as we are learning how to enter items for purchase into the system in more efficient ways. We hope that ordering pizza for May was easier for you than the way we set it up in April! As mentioned in our letter home last week, we are meeting directly with KEV, the company who runs the pro-gram, to discuss any improvements or suggestions you may have. Please keep those comments coming so that we can share this information. The company is very responsive and puts ‘do-able’ changes into place quite quickly.

Congratulations to the Graham-James, Trevellick & Bozich families, our gift card winners who registered before the end of March.

Just a reminder to everyone that you can renew your magazine subscriptions online and credit them to Lakeview Public School at any time throughout the year. We will be offering the subscription campaign once again this fall so if you want to ignore all those pesky reminders that you get from the publisher 6 months before the subscription expires, you can do so with assurance that you will once again be able to order through us.

Visit qsp.ca for more information.

Allergy Alert

P A G E 7 N E W S L E T T E R

Friday May 13 is Go Green Day. Families across Grimsby are encouraged to leave the car at home and take their green route to school. You’ll see fewer cars around our school, and fewer cars means our school area is safer for everyone.

Lace up your shoes or snap on those helmets for an active trip to school.

If you live far from school, consider parking a few blocks away so you can walk part of the trip.

If you ride a bus take part by walking to your bus stop. We are holding this special event as a way to create a greater sense of community, enhance the safety of our school neighbourhood, be kind to the environment and our bodies and have fun.

Fun facts:

Kids need at least 60 minutes of heart pumping activity every day. Running your car for 10 seconds or more in school zones increases air pollution in an area where chil-

dren spend a lot of time. Walking or biking, instead of driving, for one or two short trips per week, can lead to positive environ-

mental impacts and better air quality around our school. Tips to remember when walk or biking:

Look left, right and left again when crossing the street Never run or dart out into the street or cross between parked cars Make eye contact with drivers before crossing in front of them and watch out for cars that are turning

or backing up It’s always best to walk on sidewalks or paths. If there are no sidewalks, walk facing traffic as far to the

left as possible. Cross streets at corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks Watch out for cars coming out of driveways and alleys Protect your brain – always wear a helmet

Go green on May 13, wear green and enjoy your green route to school!

However, if you cannot join us for Run day, there will be a Rankin Run donation item available for pur-chase on School Cash online throughout the month of May.
