MARCH 2015 WORSHIP ATTENDANCE
IN JANUARY AND FEBRUARY 2015
Remember the words from Lukes Gospel about Jesus: And Jesus came to Nazareth where He had been
brought up; and He went to the
Synagogue, As His custom was, on
the Sabbath Day.
Jesus had that custom of regularly attending prayer, worship,
and teaching. How about that
custom for us as well!
Thank you!

Dear Brothers and Sisters, Members and Friends of the Hill United Presbyterian Church:
Last month in this space I suggested that as we enter the Lenten Season, lets think about adding some actions to our spiritual lives in Christ Jesus rather than subtracting things. How about this suggestion? As you are able, why dont you attend worship regularly through Lent along with coming to some of our study times? Additionally, please take the time to invite and bring with you a family member, a relative, a friend or a neighbor! In the love of Jesus Christ, let us together be outreaching to other people. As Peter one time wrote: You are Gods own people for His possession, that you may declare the wonderful deeds of Him who called you out of the darkness into His marvelous light. Once you were no people but now you are Gods people; once you had not received mercy but now you have received mercy!
In this Season of Lent, Yours in the
Praise and Blessing of Jesus Christ,
Pastor Clark Rev. Clark Sawyer

SESSION HIGHLIGHTS
February 9, 2015
From Administration Committee:
Motion: That Standard Insulating be contracted to perform work in the attic above the sanctuary including
straightening up the electrical wiring for safety reason, building access walkways, repairing the steps to the
stained glass ceiling window, caulking around that window and the roof above it, and cleaning the window at
the cost of $4,500.00 with the funding coming from the Hazlet Fund ($2,001.89) and the balance from the
Building Maintenance Fund.
From Stewardship And Mission Support:
1. To approve Lyn Goehring as Hill Church Treasurer for 2015.
2. That the 2015 per capita apportionment be paid up to $7,000 or up to the level that per capita gifts are
made by the congregation, whichever is higher.
Discussion - Per Capita
The 2015 Per Capita apportionment was set by the Presbytery at $39.93 per person. At this rate Hill
Church would be responsible for paying $13,975.50 for 2015. The Stewardship and Mission Support
Committee did not use this amount when developing the 2015 budget as it was felt that the church could not
afford this amount at this time.
3. To approve the use of up to $5,700.00 from the Ruth Bauer Scholarship Fund to pay Anderson Coach and
Travel for bus transportation for the Hill Youth Chorale for their 2015 trip. $904.25 of this money will be
used to cover a deposit made for the trip that was put on the Hill Church credit card. $4,795.75 will be
used to make the second installment payment to Anderson Coach and Travel towards the 2015 trip.
Comment - This amount was used to help in Hill Youth Chorale Dues Assistance as Scholarship help for
nineteen of the forty-five Hill Youth Chorale Members as they go on their Ministry Trip in June, 2015.
4. To approve the use of $3,000.00 from the Ruth Bauer Scholarship Fund to award one-time scholarships of
$1,000.00 to three Hill Church youth (class of 2014 graduates) for their use in pursuing post-secondary
training or education.
5. To approve the use of $1,000.00 from the Ruth Bauer Scholarship Fund to provide Scholarship assistance
to Ghanaian women pursuing secondary or post-secondary education.
Comment - This grant helped forty-six young women receive scholarships of various types.
6. To approve the use of up to $1,680.00 from the Ruth Bauer Scholarship Fund to offset part of the cost of
the 2014 Youth Mission Trip for participating Hill Church youth.
Comment - Six Junior High and High School youth benefited from this Scholarship help to the Pittsburgh
Project.
From Worship and Discipleship Communion Totals:
January 2 Worship - 100; February 1 Worship - 94; February 4 - New Haven Court Worship - 10.
In 2014, Hill Church received twenty new members. There were ten child baptisms and three adult baptisms.
In 2014 there were 350 active members and in 2015 there is a net gain of ten new members to 360 active
members.

GHANA MISSION TASK FORCE REPORT
Not much recent news from Bubiashie, but please continue to keep the
Bubiashie District churches, Bernard Daddy, chairperson of the Bubiashie Scholarship
Committee, as well as the students, and Joshua Heikkila, the West Africa Liaison for the
PC(USA), in your prayers. It appears that the Ebola health crisis in West Africa is
moderating a bit. Thank you for prayers. But Nigeria continues under siege from the
barbaric and unceasing terrorism of Boko Haram and these citizens need our prayers.
James Ihlenfeld for the Ghana Mission Task Force

Every year Hill Church is asked to support the work of the Beaver-Butler Presbytery, the
Synod of the Trinity and the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church USA. This
support is made through a per-capita assessment of church members. This assessment has
been used for over 150 years to fund the essential work of the Presbyterian Church.
As we have done in past years, we are inviting members to the Hill Church family of faith to
contribute to the support of the shared work of the Presbyterian Church USA. The per-
capita assessment for 2015 is $39.93 per member which includes all those who have been
baptized and have made their profession of faith. For example, a single member would
contribute $39.93, a couple who are both members would contribute $79.86, a couple with
one confirmed child would contribute $119.79 and so on.
For your convenience in making this offering, a special blue envelope has been included in
your regular box of envelopes, appearing between the January 25th and the February 1st
envelopes. Or you may mark the memo line of your check per-capita and this offering will be properly credited to your giving statement.
Thank you for your continued generosity and support.
