With high expectations following the successes of previous years, a team is working behind the scenes to get everything planned, lead on by their very dedicated leader, Brad Huggins. Make sure you clear your schedule for Friday, August 31 st , and start to organise your table of 8-10! It promises to be a fun night, with lots of great prizes (and we promise the trivia won’t be all about rowing). Table reservations can be made by emailing [email protected] , payments ($100 per table) are required before the night. Another date to put in the calendar is NUBC’s end of year dinner, to be held on 17/11/12. More information will be available closer to the date. We achieved firsts in the Men’s D grade quad, the Women’s C grade coxed four, the championship women’s coxed four, the championship men’s single, double, coxed four and eight. We sent a smaller contingent to the Edward Trickett Regatta, held at SIRC in Penrith, however we were still able to field a Women’s eight, quad and coxed four, as well as a number of singles. The Women’s eight and coxed four both came second, and Jack Hanley achieved third place in the Men’s B grade single. The NSW masters regatta was held over the weekend starting the 5/5/12. Jason Nissen from NUBC entered a number of races, and achieved third in the Men’s C grade quad in a composite crew, and fifth in the A grade single. Congratulations Jason! As the weather is getting cooler, the NUBC social and

fundraising calendar is heating up! We are currently

getting organised for one of our largest events of the

year, the annual NUBC Trivia Night. With high

expectations following the successes of previous

years, a team is working behind the scenes to get

everything planned, lead on by their very dedicated

leader, Brad Huggins.

Make sure you clear your schedule for Friday, August

31st, and start to organise your table of 8-10! It

promises to be a fun night, with lots of great prizes

(and we promise the trivia won’t be all about rowing).

Table reservations can be made by emailing

[email protected], payments ($100 per table)

are required before the night.

Another date to put in the calendar is NUBC’s end of

year dinner, to be held on 17/11/12. More

information will be available closer to the date.

NUBC has attended three regattas since the last

newsletter update, the CDRA Championship Regatta,

Edward Trickett Regatta and the NSW Masters

Regatta.

We had a strong turn out to the CDRA Regatta, and

came away with a number of medals, including the

title of CDRA Men’s Single Scull Champion (Jack

Hanley).

We achieved firsts in the Men’s D grade quad, the

Women’s C grade coxed four, the championship

women’s coxed four, the championship men’s single,

double, coxed four and eight.

We sent a smaller

contingent to the

Edward Trickett

Regatta, held at SIRC

in Penrith, however

we were still able to

field a Women’s

eight, quad and coxed

four, as well as a

number of singles.

The Women’s eight

and coxed four both

came second, and

Jack Hanley achieved

third place in the

Men’s B grade single.

The NSW masters

regatta was held over

the weekend starting

the 5/5/12. Jason Nissen from NUBC entered a

number of races, and achieved third in the Men’s C

grade quad in a composite crew, and fifth in the A

grade single. Congratulations Jason!

Looking to the social side of the club, a very

successful “Novice Initiation Pub Crawl” was held

early on in the semester, to break the ice with the

new members. Attendees were tied together, making

the whole pub crawl an extended three legged race,

and there were egg and spoon races held in Civic park

on the way between venues. Overall, I know everyone

had a great time, and it looks like this will be the

beginning of a tradition for the club!

Another novice related event was held a little later on

in the semester – the novice regatta! As per usual, erg

races are held to get everyone’s adrenaline pumping,

and then the novices are sent onto the water to

compete in their first races ever. It’s a great

introduction to racing for the new members, and gives

them a reason to train hard over the winter, knowing

what they’ll be getting up to during our next

competitive season.

If you head out to the shed at the moment, please

take the time to admire the work of NUsport’s

handyman, kindly lent to us over the past few weeks.

Small but much needed changes are taking place, and

the shed is looking better than ever!

Some other important upcoming events include the

Head of the Hunter Marathon, which NUBC is helping

to host next weekend on Sunday the 22nd July. We

have a number of entries, and are hoping to equal our

strong performance of last year.

When uni goes back we will be holding a couple of

“Bring a Friend” days on Saturday mornings, which

will be the perfect opportunity for everyone to get

their friends to come along to give them a look at

what we really do at NUBC! These will be the 28th of

July and the 4th of August, and everyone is welcome.

Finally, to continue the fundraising efforts for

Adelaide Uni Games, we will be hosting BBQs at the

university again. If you are a member of NUBC

attending uni games, make sure you find some time to

head along and help out!

Happy Rowing!
