GARGOON TERM 2: Our underlying classroom theme this term is being kind. We have started off term 2 with random acts of kindness, leaving compliment cards and reflecting on the way we treat others and ourselves. Our integrated unit is ‘A Ticket Around the World’, giving us the perfect opportunity to not only learn about the similarities and differences between places, but explore settlement patterns, climate and the special features that make each place individual. We have a busy term coming up with lots extra-curricular activities, that many of us have enthusiastically jumped at the chance to participate in. We have dance performances at the Gold Coast HOTA,
Waste Wise Schools program excursion to Lismore and many sporting events including our athletic carnival.
SPAGHETTI CIRCUSSeveral classes were entertained by the talented students from Spaghetti Circus, featuring several ex-Bruns kids! he Jullum and Yugoori classes were especially inspired in preparation for their end of term performance.
LISMORE WASTE EXCURSIONSGargoon class on June 4th, and Yugoori year 1, Booribi and Junbung on June 6th will all be learning better waste practice, and seeing first hand what happens at the Waste, Recycling a Resource Centre. The year 1 & 2 students are also participating in World Environment Day activites.

WHAT’S COMING UPWHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING
Dear Families,It is shaping up to be a very busy term with sport, dance, choir and leadership opportunities available, our students have lots to do.This Friday will be very exciting as senior choir are performing at the Gala Opening of the Festival of the Voice at the Picture House. The whole school will also participate in a workshop on Tuesday with renowned countertenor Tobias Cole. The whole school choir will then perform the following Friday at the picture house. What an amazing opportunity for our school.Last Friday 18 students went to a Leadership conference in Tweed Heads. They have come back with lots of ideas that the SRC will try and implement. Many of our classes got to participate in a come and try Rugby League session. It looked like lots of fun. If any students are interested they can participate in an after school program run at Brunswick Heads Public School. Flyers were sent home last week but there are more available at school. If families use their Active Kids grant from the government the program would be free.Taj is currently at State AFL and we wish him all the best. Taj and Jai were also successful in gaining selection in the Headlands Touch Football team. Both our boys and girls soccer teams played in a gala day, the boys won both their games and will now progress to round 3 in the State Knockout. Our school Cross Country team competed at the Headlands Championships. Everybody can be very proud of their efforts. Congratulations to students who were successful in gaining selection in the Headlands team to compete at the Far North Coast Carnival. Our three dance troupes have been working hard to finalise their routines ready for the Far North Coast Dance Festival in week 6.We have now completed NAPLAN assessment. It was our first year online and it went off without a hitch. NAPLAN is an assessment that provides useful whole school data to inform our planning. It is only one small part of student assessment overall and we encourage students to see it as just another task in class. Overall most students reported enjoying the online format.Have a great couple of weeks , Mel
