Info on Bramley Lawn On Fri 10th October 2014, the much anticipated Bramley Lawn will receive its Grand Opening. From this Autumn, it will re-open as an innovative, friendly new space designed to make later-life a whirl of social and learning opportunities and also to provide support for people with Dementia and their carers.

The flexible space is being re-modelled to offer a drop-in facility and social space that can be enjoyed by elders from across West Leeds. The space can also be hired to run classes, hold meetings or events and has a capacity for up to 100 people.

Bramley Lawn will offer an accessible edible garden, which we hope will be developed by a gardening club and enjoyed by anyone who visits. Bramley Lawn will initially open for three days a week, Wednesdays, Thursdays

and Saturdays with support from two dedicated workers, offering a programme of activities which will be fully revealed at our Grand Opening.

We’re hoping that Bramley Lawn will inspire new creative ideas about ways to spend time together, new opportunities to share and learn new skills, and enable more evening and weekend socialising for BEA Members and many others in the area.

We’re looking for volunteers to support some of the ideas we’re developing which include a Saturday night movie screening. If you are an experienced barber, a creative gardener, or a male choir leader, please get in touch – we’d love to hear from you.

Below are a few elements of the BEA programme we plan to move to Bramley Lawn, In the meantime, follow us on Twitter @bramleylawn or ‘like’ our Facebook page.

Hello to Shauna and Christina

We’re very

happy to announce that we have a new Apprentice called Shauna Ledger (above).

Shauna will be covering for Vicki whilst she is on maternity leave. BEA wishes Vicki all the very, very best with her maternity and we are happy to announce that her little boy, Mason, arrived safely on 20th August as this newsletter goes to print.

Shauna lives locally and she is a former pupil of Leeds West Academy. Like Vicki she will be answering the phones and helping in the office. Please make her feel welcome.

At the beginning of August we also welcomed Christina Lingley as our new Community

Shop Manager. Christina (below) has experience of running charity shops in Bradford. Christina is appealing for new volunteers for the new shop at Bramley Centre (due to open in Sept) so if you or anyone you know is interested, why not call in at our new shop and say hello?

Paid ‘Volunteers’ Luto is a company which reviews medicine information, to ensure that information is clear and easy to understand. Bramley Library Leeds City Council are currently undertaking a consultation on the use of libraries including Bramley Library. There is a concern that the consultation may lead to a reduction in opening hours. You can register your opinion through the consultation document at the library. There is also a public meeting at Bramley Library on Thurs 11th September 4:30-5:30.

Also at Bramley Library are some planned events called the Big Read. These sessions will be fun and lively events for people to get more engaged with the library and the invaluable service it provides. The first event will be on Sat 13th September 10:00-11:00.
