Table Topics Master
What is Table Topics? This is a chance for members to practice their impromptu speaking. Topics are prepared by the Table Topics Master and then given to a member who immediately responds.
What does the Table Topics Master do?
• Lead the impromptu Speaking Session • Prepares 6 to 8 questions in advance, and asks people to respond • Makes their intro and length of questions as short as possible to allow the
responders as much time as possible to speak • Asks question, and then calls out the person’s name – to maintain as much
suspense and surprise as is possible. • Moves away from center stage to give responders the focus • Watches the Time Keeper for signal of completed time • Hands back to Toastmaster
Who should the Table Topics Master pick to speak?
• Members who are not on the agenda
• Visitors – only if you have asked them prior to the meeting if they would like to participate
• Members who have smaller roles on the agenda
• Do NOT pick – the General Evaluator (as they are evaluating the Table Topics Master), or the Table Topics Evaluator. What topics? The choice of topics is up to you. You many want to choose a theme and have all questions fit inside that theme, or just individual questions. Remember the aim is to give people a chance to get up and speak. You shouldn’t set out to really stump participants, especially newer members.
