Certificates will be presented to students in these year levels. Parents and family members are very welcome to

join us!

* Reminder: Before school routines:

Parents, one area we would really appreciate your support is in our before school routines. Every year level has

supervision in these areas begins at 8.30am. In the table below are the correct waiting areas for P-2 students.

Around the school

PREP: Starting school has been both exciting and busy in Prep A. In HASS, we have been discussing and exploring

who we are and who are the members of our families. Here are our colourful portraits!

NEWS FROM MR MURDOCH continued... In Maths, we are learning about sorting and investigated ‘same and different’. Here are some lovely socks we

painted. Some are the same and some are different.

YEAR 1: 1B have been doing recount writing to reflect on the holidays or weekend. Edie has written a lovely

recount about her weekend picnic and has done an excellent job of adding detail to make her writing more

interesting. She has also been able to include a reflective closing sentence to describe how she felt about the

weekend, aligning with our English unit which explores emotions. Well done Edie!

NEWS FROM MR MURDOCH continued…

YEAR 2: In 2C we have been extremely busy in English, reading and watching fun traditional and fractured fairy

tales and exploring characters. We have learnt that authors bring characters alive through their appearance,

personality traits and their actions.

We are comparing how similar characters are depicted in both traditional and fractured fairy tales and writing

down how we feel about these characters. Some of us like the traditional fairy tales more, whilst others prefer the

fractured ones.

Kind regards,

Scott Murdoch

CHAPPY CORNER Hi everyone!

Welcome back to 2020 and a very warm welcome to all our new families. I hope everyone had a lovely

Christmas and New Year and an enjoyable time with family and friends. For those who don’t know me, I am the

school chaplain, or ‘Chappy’ as most like to call me. My role in the school is to provide social, emotional and

spiritual support for all students, staff and families. I love being the Chappy in this school and am very much

looking forward to meeting all the new families who we are welcoming into our school community this year. I am

in the school on Wednesdays and Fridays. A normal day for me would include seeing a number of students to

provide support in a one-to-one or small group setting, and visiting classrooms where possible. I am also out and

about with students before and after school and in the lunch breaks getting to know them and checking how

they are going.

Last year was a wonderful year for Chaplaincy with lots of exciting events being run throughout the year to build

positive connections between students, staff and families in the school. We held our annual Father’s Day

breakfast with keynote speaker Damian Johnson, performances by our school bands and choirs, and even some

gardening afterwards with dads. We had a wonderful movie night with fresh popcorn, snow cones, sweets, and

lots of dancing! We celebrated Chappy Week where we had lots of fun games and activities for students to

enjoy, and I was also able to be involved with excursions, school discos, the school choir, International breakfast,

the Mother’s Day stalls, and other exciting events within the school community.

I’m really looking forward to another wonderful year of being able to journey alongside students, staff and

families and to be able to help in whatever way I can. Please make sure to say hi if you see me around school. If

you would like at any stage to meet with me to discuss options for support for yourself or your child or you’d like

to find out more about what my role is in the school, please feel free to contact me at [email protected].

Additional information on the role of a school chaplain can be found at

https://www.suqld.org.au/services/chaplaincy/ .

Kindest regards,

Chappy Katie

PARENT INFORMATION SESSIONS

Thank you to parents who have attended the information sessions in Weeks 2 & 3. If you were unable to attend

your year level session, Class Teachers can provide for a digital copy of the key documents referenced during

the sessions:

program, later this term. Please look out for information via your Class Teachers or the Class Parent Rep.

CLASS PARENT REPS

Effective communication between school and home is the basis for building productive relationships. Class

Parent Reps play an important role in school communication channels. The role of the parent rep is to:

Remind parents of key messages from the school and teacher (e.g. messages about camps,

excursions, returning forms, important events etc.)

Assist in communication from the P&C (e.g. organising donations / helpers for school events)

Organise social gatherings outside of school for the class (if there is interest)

Class Teachers are currently seeking expressions of interest from parents of students in their class. Contact your

child’s Class Teacher if you wish to be considered for this role.

ASSEMBLY SCHEDULE

Assemblies are on Friday mornings 9:15 – 9:45am where Merit Certificates or STAR awards will be presented to

NEWS FROM MRS BAIRSTOW STUDENT LEADERSHIP – PROCESS UNDERWAY

As published in last week’s newsletter, the voting process for our student leadership positions are well

underway. This afternoon we voted for House Captains, and students will be informed of the results shortly.

Student Council & Class Rep voting is happening in classrooms, and Bridge Builder selections will follow after

those results are finalised. The quality of the speeches has been very impressive. Furthermore, the quantity of

self-nominations far surpasses any previous years. We are very fortunate to have so many fine young leaders

among us. Those students who will serve on the Student Council for a full year will be attending the National
