tuFty-tOO: REVIsItINg thE 60’s AND ‘70s
WIth AN EyE ON CONtEMpORARy DEsIgN
“I wanted to revisit capitonnè and Chesterfield
types of sofas, while paying special attention to
the new interpretations made in the 1960’s and
‘70s, which I have great regard for”. These are
the words used in 2005 by Patricia Urquiola to
describe the Tufty-Time sofa system, one of the
most successful products of her work with B&B
Italia and the project she used as a model when
developing the new “Tufty-Too” upholstered
system. Patricia Urquiola presented the system
last April as a continuation of this interpretation,
but gave her new family of sofas an unexpected,
soft, contemporary look.

Tufty-Too, design Patricia Urquiola
Even though it is based on an specific typology
of reference, Tufty-Too is distinguished by an
innovative spirit and represents an excellent
exposition of the themes of modularity, comfort
and removability.
The end result of the project is an informal
system with free, versatile configurations. This
modular system starts with an ottoman as the
basic piece, which is then accompanied by
central, corner and terminal elements with a low
or high armrest. The elements are used to invent
traditional sofas, sofas with chaise longue,
corner sofas and island elements that provide a
360° seating solution.
The easily removable cover features stitching
dyed in a matching colour or a contrasting
shade which can even become a decorative
motif. Particularly cosy, Tufty-Too is both a place
where people meet and a refuge where they can
let themselves go.

EVENts
la Rinascente in Milan, November 15-21
Placing the accent on innovation and creativity,
the Elle Decor Apartment Upside Down project
will enliven the eight store windows at La
Rinascente in Milan, which overlook the Piazza
del Duomo. This entire “room” devoted to B&B
Italia displays a selection of furnishings that are
strong expressions of fine design: Husk, Mart
and Piccola Papilio armchairs, along with Fat-
Fat occasional tables, will be the stars of the
show in an unusual “upside-down” layout that
invites you to change your outlook... on home
living, in this case.
B&B Italia supports cancer
research with love Design®
Again this year, B&B Italia is continuing its
commitment to charity by supporting Love
Design®, the important fundraising campaign
on behalf of cancer research in Italy. For the
fifth edition of the initiative, which was held on
November 11-12 at the Pavilion of Contemporary
Art in Milan, B&B Italia donated a selection of
lamps designed by Jean-Marie Massaud.
Love Design®, which was launched in 2003, is
made possible through the joint commitment of
leading companies in Italian design, the Industrial
Design Association (ADI), and the Lombardy
Committee of the Italian Association for Cancer
Research (AIRC).
