The Proper Position.

Cowardice asks the question, ‘Is it safe?’. Expediency asks the question, ‘Is it politic?’. Vanity asks the question, ‘Is it popular?’. But, conscience asks the question, ‘Is it right?’. And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but one must take it because one’s conscience tells one that it is right.~Martin Luther King, Jr.~

Oftentimes, doing that which you know in your heart to be the proper course of action will go against what others may think, and even your own “natural” tendencies...and it may require that you risk standing against formidable opposition. While it may seem difficult in the moment, it IS the course of action that will lead you to ultimate peace and contentment. Take a long-term viewpoint, NOT one that seeks to do what appears easiest in the moment.

There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.~Proverbs 14:12~

And you shall do what is right and good in the sight of the LORD, that it may be well with you, and that you may go in and possess the good land of which the LORD swore to your fathers...~Deuteronomy 6:18 (NKJV)~

{So] they summoned them and imperatively instructed them not to converse in any way or teach at all in or about the name of Jesus. But Peter and John replied to them, Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you and obey you rather than God, you must decide (judge), but we [ourselves] cannot help telling what we have seen and heard. ~Acts 4:18-20 (Amp)~

Having recently lost my job due to a company re-structuring effort, I found myself in a position of "abnormality" to say the least. It was not desirea-ble, and it was a time where I

found myself starting all over again in many ways. The "how to and what next" questions can be daunting. Reaching out or networking is truly the answer, but how, and where does one start? In my case, I reached out to Pas-tor Brad, who led me to Jennifer Lyon, and the Employment Ministry Team. It's not that someone else will neces-sarily find you a job, but more im-portantly, it's that someone else will take the time to get you going, answer questions and and care enough to do so. My path also led to an Employment Transition Ministry in Tulsa, where on a weekly basis I had a place to go, grow, and learn more about the skills and tools necessary to finding a new posi-tion. My message for our congregation is that an "Employment Ministry Team" is invaluable to those who find them-selves in similar positions as mine. In fact, we can all be members because every little expression of hope, or next lead, or a name of someone to call, is what keeps hope alive and the possibil-ity that tommorrow will lead to an open door to the next potential job op-portunity. Please support the Ministry Team efforts in this invaluable source of life support, and remember that any idea, thought, prayer or contact you can make to an employment seek-er will mean more to them than you can ever imagine. May God Bless all of you and the Employment Ministry Team. Bill Sherwood

The Soul Searchers’ current study is on the Holy Spirit.

Commemorate, Commune and Commit This Sunday is a big Sunday for Faith. We will have three acts in worship that celebrate the work of God in our lives. We will celebrate the lives of the witness-es that God has given to us but are now with Him. I am thankful for their lives and the witness they have shared with us. The people we remember have impacted all of us as they shared who they were and the love they brought to us. It is a special time as we read names, light can-dles and ring the bell in remembrance. Please let us know who in your family we need to place on our list by this Wednes-day at noon. We will also celebrate the remembrance of the sacrifice Jesus made for all of us as we celebrate Holy Communion. Je-sus gave His life so that we may have “confidence in what we hope for and as-surance about what we do not see” [Hebrews 11:1, NIV]. We have

hope because our sins have been forgiv-en. We may have the confidence that God has prepared a place for us and for those who have gone on before us. The act of communion is to remember that it is the giving of His life that gives us this hope.We will also celebrate commitment Sun-day. Commitment Sunday is a time for us to commit to carry on the faithful wit-ness of those who have gone on before. It is a time for us to commit a small por-tion of what all God has given to each of us. It is an opportunity to respond to God’s gracious gift of life and sustenance and commit our lives to serve Him with all that we have. Faith has an opportunity to continue to make an impact in our community and world with the message of hope and life. Making a pledge allows us to develop a budget so that we may continue to do the work of those faithful people before us. We ask you to respond to God’s call in your life by making a pledge now. Pledge cards will be available if you have mis-placed yours. We invite you to be with us as we com-memorate, commune, and commit.

Blessings, Brad
