Monthly Fellowship Teams Update
The Monthly Fellowship Teams play an important role in the life of our church. They are designed to help members get to know each other, to create the feeling of family through smaller groups, and to help new members quickly become an integral part of the church. In our new Fellowship Team format members will get together to socialize and carry out various church-related activities.
Below you will find an outline detailing our plan to restructure the Monthly Fellowship Teams. We hope to create teams that offer interests for each of us, provide ongoing enthusiasm and fellowship for our faith. 1. Re-establish teams with an emphasis on participation opportunities and shared leadership. 2. Establish team leaders for each interest group. 3. Create Community groups, possibly two groups of each. Each group would do quarterly
activities with one of them being some type of service project for the church or community.
4. All the groups will continue ushering and helping with the Food Bank. These changes will take place the first of the year. Please fill out the enclosed survey and turn into the church office or place in the collection plate on Sundays during the month of September.
Covenant Bible Study is an in-depth study in which we read and discuss the Bible together. It uses the metaphor of Covenant, God’s relationship with God’s people, as the unifying theme to guide the study. It is a 24- week program which will be broken down into 4 week units, spread over a year or so. Participants will meet weekly to discuss the assigned scripture readings and how the readings relate to their daily lives. We will view a conversation between bible scholars and the host pastors. A date and time for this program will be determined by those who indicate an interest. You are invited to join the conversation.

Thank Offering September 25th The generosity of Presbyterian Women and their families and congregations as demonstrated through their Thank Offering gifts help chosen recipients find real solutions for projects related to health, education, economic development, and needs of women and children. The Thank Offering has provided and continues to provide much-needed financial assistance to numerous worthwhile programs not included in ongoing General Assembly mission support. Each year, domestic and international projects are carefully and prayerfully selected by the Creative Ministries Offering Committee to help meet a crucial need. Forty percent (40%) of this offering is used to support hospitals and community health programs that place priority in helping the most needy members of God’s community. The remaining sixty percent (60%) is used for new creative ideas for mission, undesignated in advance.

Thank You to these folks and others for
volunteering each month to prepare the newsletter for mailing!
Every week magazines, newsletters, and catalogs come into the church office, all of them filled with articles and items "every church needs" to grow and thrive in the world today. The catalogs want to sell us musical instruments, sound systems, and curricula. The magazines are filled with advice about "transformational" worship experiences, and "connection points" to make the church more relevant in the lives of congregants.
It'd be easy to roll our eyes at all the tools and suggestions we see and, honestly, we in the office do to most of them. However, there is one church-vitality theory that I find myself whole-heartedly agreeing with. According to those who study and write about such things, the churches today that are strongest and most healthy are the churches that have an outward focus; they are the churches that open their doors and share their resources, offer programs for the community, and listen to their neighbors.
Over and over again I've been told by people who've joined our congregation that what they liked most about FPCQ was that we showed our faith in doing work not just for ourselves but also for others; that through ministries that benefit the community, we learn more about God and God's place in our lives. I must admit this observation always warms my heart. So, as we head into the Fall, come find a ministry to help with (or suggest a new one), come meet our neighbors, share the love of Christ through service, feel your heart swell with love for the Lord and love for all God's children, and in so doing, help keep God's Church, your church, the FPCQ, healthy, strong and life-changing here at home and wherever we might go.
Peace, Chris
