Seniors who are in the midst of job hunting probably don't need any encouragement to at- tend the Career Fair. There will be hundreds of potential employers there, covering positions in careers appropriate to every major. You won't want to miss this event. But the Career Fair is also a great place for jun- iors, sophomores, and even freshmen. You can use the Career Fair to build your network, to learn more about various careers and industries, and to look for summer internships and co-op programs. Try to do some homework before you go, so you can ask informed questions, but don't be afraid to use the Career Fair as a great learn- ing opportunity. So mark your calendars for two weeks from now, and plan to spend some time at the Career Fair. DEPARTMENTAL HONORS RESEARCH GRANTS (DHRG)

Students who are participating in a Depart-

mental Honors Program may apply for funds to support their Departmental Honors Research projects in the fall and spring semesters. These competitive grants may be used for such needs as equipment, supplies, travel to research facilities or other items beyond the capacity of the student's department to provide. Please read the Guidelines and Instructions care-fully.

line will be funded only upon availability of funds;

NSF GRADUATE RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP -

The NSF GRFP is a generous and prestigious award that supports research-oriented students in science, engi-neering and mathematics disciplines through funding for graduate school (annual $34,000 stipend plus $12,000 Cost of Education Allowance).

To be eligible, applicants must be either rising seniors or 1st year or 2nd year graduate students, and be US

Citizens or Permanent Residents. Eligible fields of study are: Chemistry, Computer and Information Science and Engineering, Engineering, Geosciences, Life Sciences, Material Research, Mathematical Sciences, Physics and Astronomy, Psychology, Social Sciences, and STEM Education and Learning Research. Students in medi-cal and other clinical fields are not eligible.

National deadlines are October 26 - 30, depending on field of study. More details are at www.nsfgrfp.org.

A series of two workshops and two drop-in help sessions to help students prepare competitive applications for the GRFP will be offered at Clemson. You do not need to pre-register to attend any of these workshops. The focus and content of each workshop is different, so it is recommended that students applying for the GRFP attend both workshops.

Workshop 1: All About the NSF GRFP

Thursday, September 3 7pm - 200 Holtzendorff Hall

This workshop introduces the GRFP, eligibility guidelines, the GRFP review process, NSF review criteria, fea-tures of successful applications, and tips on getting started.

Workshop 2: Writing the NSF GRFP “Personal Statement, Relevant Background and Future Goals Essay” and the “Graduate Research Statement”

Thursday, September 17 7pm – 200 Holtzendorff Hall

This workshop focuses on how to tell your story (personal, professional and educational) in ways that support your research and career plans. This workshop will also focus on how to write effectively about your research plan in ways that meet the NSF review criteria, as well as writing and revision strategies.
