NEW DIRECTORS JOIN BOARD

Memorial Day Cruise-in and Picnic Sunday, May 29 @ 2:00 pm
Polish up that special car, truck, or motorcycle and bring it to the Welcome Center to be admired by all!
The Activities Committee will provide grilled hamburgers and hot dogs with all the trimmings, cold drinks (soft drinks, beer, water, iced tea) and coffee. Bring a side dish to pass and join us
for a day of fun. Games include corn hole, horse shoes, and volley ball.
There will be a tribute to veterans
The sign-up sheet is in the Welcome Center, with a deadline of May 26 to sign up.

MEMORIAL DAY TRIBUTE
To honor our veterans at our Memorial Day picnic event, we would like to collect photos of those who
have served. We are making an honorary/memorial wall of photos to pay tribute to veterans. Please
provide photos of your loved ones, husbands, wives, sons, daughters, grandparents aunts, uncles and
more. Please provide the name of the person in the photo, the branch of the military they served and what
years they served. We would also like to know if they are deceased or still with us. We will make
markers to indicate if the photo is in memory of or in honor of. We need these photos no later than
Wednesday May 25th
.
Please bring copies only of these photos and not originals.
***ANNUAL CUMBERLAND COVE GARAGE SALE*** Spring Cleaning uncovers many treasures, why not share them with your neighbors? Please join us for the Annual Cove Garage Sale on June 11, from 8:00 till 1:00 in the parking lot of the Welcome Center. A $3.00 donation per vendor will be accepted to cover the cost of advertising. Join us in supporting the Cumberland Cove artists, crafters, quilters and more. Our residents will offer jewelry, woodworking, paintings, photography, sewing, quilt art, gourd art, home baked goods and more. Purchase your holiday gifts from products made and crafted in the USA by your neighbors and friends. We will also have a silent auction and complimentary coffee or hot tea. Open to the Public for shopping. Contact Sharon Brandon (839-2770) to reserve a table for this event. Cost is $10 per table, and the reservation is effective when the fee is paid. At last report, there were three tables left.

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION
Since this program started in 1996 and to 2011, schools have earned over 200 million dollars. Individual schools can earn up to $60,000. Box Tops for Education are located on over 100 products that we use daily. Some of the products are: Kleenex, Scott Tissue, Cheerios, and Ziploc just to name a few. A complete list can be found on the website Box Tops for Education. I collect the box tops for Uffelman Elementary School. Anyone who would like to help me collect the box tops can leave them at the Welcome Center.

ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE
The Activities Committee is preparing a tribute to veterans for the Memorial Day event. Please see the notice in the Bulletin Board section. The next Activities Committee meeting will be Tuesday, May 17th , at 10:00am at the Welcome Center. Wanda Doris, 839-2259 or [email protected].
DINING OUT BUNCH The Dining Out Bunch meets the third week of every month. The restaurant choice, day of week and time are chosen by the host and/or hostess for that particular month. Everyone is welcome! It can be lunch, a late lunch or dinner. The decision is made by the host based on restaurant capability. If you would like to be added to the mailing list for this function, please email Martha and Tim Schmidt ([email protected]) so that they can send you monthly information. Our Dining Out for May will be hosted by Steve and Pat Miko. Hope you can join us at Spankie's Restaurant in Cookeville. All details will be provided by email at the beginning of the month. BUNCO Bunco will be played on May 12th and 26th (second and fourth Thursdays), at 1:00pm at the Welcome Center. Bunco is an easy dice game to master and a great place to meet your neighbors. Newcomers are also welcome. Hope to see you there! CUMBERLAND COVE BOOK CLUB
The book club will meet this month on Tuesday, May 24th, at 10am. The book for May is “Wait Till Next Year”, by Doris Kearns Goodwin. The discussion will be led by Penny Newcomb. The Book Club meets monthly (except January) on the third Tuesday, and is open to all. Please call Valerie Sizemore at 839-2830 for more information.
RED HAT LADIES
This month, the Red Hat luncheon will be held on Wednesday, May 11th at 11:30am, at Father Tom’s, 32 North Cedar Avenue, in Cookeville. Hostesses for the day are Phyllis Herman and Barbara Deffler. For information, contact Gail Massey, at [email protected] or 931-734-9237.
MEXICAN TRAIN DOMINOES Mexican Train Dominoes will be played on Thursday, the 5th of May, at 9:00am at the Welcome Center. This is a simple game, and easy to learn. Everyone is welcome. If you are interested, contact Judy Webster at 839-3516.
PLATEAU SASSY STITCHERS

LATE BLOOMERS
Hey Gardening Buds,
Are we having a beautiful spring or what? I have never seen this many dogwoods in the
Cove. It is truly amazing.
We will have our annual plant and yard sale on the 14th of May starting at 8am till 3pm. Free
coffee and donuts and a free plant with purchase. We still have spaces available for only
$5.00, so give me a call if you are interested.
Our Garden Tour for May 28th will be exclusively on or about Falls Road.
The Cost is $5.00 for lunch and tour so you can contact me for the payment and then you will
receive a map for the tour. Our next meeting on May 25th will be the last sign up date so make
sure to see me at the Welcome Center from 9:30 to noon on the 25th and you can join us for the
meeting.
Our speaker for the meeting will be Nancy Christofferson who is a long time Master Gardener
from Cumberland County. She will discuss with us the new hybrids that they are planting at the
Research Center, and will give us a guided tour for those that are interested.
