THE HOLY FAMILY OF JESUS, MARY AND JOSEPH
DECEMBER 27, 2020 Reflection by Rev. Leonard N. Peterson
I prefer this statement of Sir Winston Churchill about the nature of family. “There is no doubt that it is around family and the home that all the greatest virtues …are created, strengthened, and maintained.”
Over this holiday time of year we are most likely to be with family, either literally or virtually because of the virus. We can verify Sir Winston’s observation. Family also gives us the answers to most of life’s important questions.
Do you think the young Jesus had questions? Certainly He must have, because remember He took on a human nature “like ours in everything but sin.” What is one of the principal ways we learn? Through answers to questions. Through that triple-spoke process of lessons taught, example given, and experience lived, Our Lord and Savior indeed grew in wisdom and grace.
I think it is an important detail that all this happened in the little village of Nazareth. It was located on the edge of the empire, far from the high society and corruption of Rome. So insignificant was it that it is nowhere even mentioned in the whole Old Testament. Great things can happen in humble places, as our family homes most often attest.

The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Page Four (I am writing this 9 days before Christmas.) I thank all who made our celebration of Christmas as beautiful as it could be in these challenging times! Much like the first Christmas, we had space limitations. Mary and Joseph found no room in the Inn! So, I thank you all!
Again, I thank the Youth Group, the PREP, and YOU for supporting the various Programs in their Advent and Christmas collections and donations!
A HAPPY, BLESSED AND HOLY 2021 TO YOU AND ALL THOSE YOU LOVE!
We have an “over-flow” arrangement in the Shrine Church Basement for all the Masses! All seating will be as per safe-distancing!
We pray for Our Lady’s and St. Anthony’s intercession for our Parish Family, our Church, our Nation and our World!! We pray for their healing intercession!
We pray for a deeper Respect for All Life in our Country from Conception to Natural Death!
We pray for our Police Officers, Firefighters, EMT’s, Doctors, Nurses, and all Health Care workers, Military and Governmental personnel throughout the world, and their families. They serve to protect us and care for us.
I thank you for your consistent generosity in our collections in this Covid-19 era! We are running with a deficit. Bottom line, your continued support is critical and deeply appreciated!
With Deep Thanks, Peace, and Prayer,
Fr. Jerry
