Newmarket State School TUCKSHOP - 2020

WELCOME The Newmarket State School Tuckshop aims to provide tasty, healthy meals
for students and staff of the school and the Banks Street Kindy which is
located on school grounds. Our Tuckshop is a fun, focal point of the
community and is operated by the Parents and Citizen’s Association through
a Convenor supported by a Sub-Committee comprised of volunteers.
Our Tuckshop has won many awards over the last 10 years and we are very
proud of this. Most recently we were named one of the Top 10 Tuckshops in
Queensland, for 2019, by the Queensland Association of School Tuckshops
and one of our volunteers received a Special Commendation for Volunteer
of the Year.
We rely on wonderful volunteers to deliver this service to the community and
currently there are around 40 parents, grandparents, citizens and students
who give up their time to volunteer in the Tuckshop or to home bake.

Communication Our Convenor, Lana Simic, may be contacted via email at
[email protected] or on mobile 📱 0438 959 058.
To keep you updated about Tuckshop, we regularly put notices in the school
newsletter and occasionally we ask the office to send out an email to the
school community.
Recently, we have started using the Parent Communications function in
Flexischools. If you order using the Flexischools app, you’ll see notices from
Tuckshop in the Newsfeed. Ordering via Flexischools makes it easier for us to
contact you if there is an issue with an order.
The Menu A new menu is released each Term and posted on the school’s website. The
most up-to-date menu can be viewed online at www.flexischools.com.au
We have Special Days in Tuckshop (eg Harmony Day, May the 4th, Talk Like a
Pirate Day, Taco Tuesday) and occasionally try out a new menu item or bring
back a favourite. The menu items are added to the Flexischools menu.
Vegetarian options are available every Term and gluten and/or dairy-free
options can be easily prepared. Our menu does not contain nuts.

How to order Option 1 (preferred) – Online ordering using Flexischools (TUESDAYS and FRIDAYS)
Ordering via Flexischools saves a lot of volunteer time in Tuckshop. It makes
stocking Tuckshop and planning much easier. For parents/carers it means
you’re not scrounging for spare change. Flexischools is easy to use and
convenient, for example, you can set up recurring orders and automatically
top up your account. The Tuckshop loves it when you use Flexischools as it
saves our volunteers a huge amount of time.
Go to www.flexischools.com.au to register. Enter your child’s name and class.
There are a few payment options to choose from. Instructions can be found
on the Flexischools website or contact Tuckshop and we can help.
Option 2 – Paper bags (TUESDAYS only)
If you are unable to order online, you can
use the paper bag system on Tuesdays.
Clearly write child’s name and items
ordered on separate brown paper bags
– one for Morning Tea and one for Lunch.
(Brown paper bags are available in
supermarkets. Tuckshop has a limited
supply for 10c each)
Please include correct change if
possible. If not, total all items and write
amount of change required on each
bag (see example). Or place all money
in Morning Tea bag and clearly write “all
money in M/T” on Lunch bag. Just fold
bags down instead of using staples or tape.
Either drop off the bags at Tuckshop or hand the bags to your teacher during
morning roll call.
Please do not leave bag orders unattended at Tuckshop.

Ice blocks and over-the-counter purchases Snacks and drinks may be purchased over the counter
on Tuesdays and Fridays. From 1.15 pm, Quelch Fruit
Sticks are available.
With prior notice, we can supply ice blocks to your
child’s class to celebrate a birthday or other special
event. Please contact our Tuckshop Convenor if you
would like to do this.
Special dietary requirements We will accommodate requests where possible but may not be able to cater
for all dietary requirements. We are happy to discuss any concerns that you
may have.
If your child has food allergies, Tuckshop will be notified as part of the
enrolment process. If your child has food intolerances, please contact the
Tuckshop Convenor to discuss options.
Halal options are available. Contact the Tuckshop Convenor to discuss
options
What happens if my child forgets to take their lunch to school? If your child forgets to take their lunch to school, they must speak to their
teacher and the office staff who will try to contact a parent/carer. If
authorised, Tuckshop will supply morning tea and/or lunch. Please pay the
monies owing as soon as possible. There is an I.O.U. facility for Tuckshop on
Flexischools.

Getting involved in Tuckshop Our Tuckshop runs smoothly thanks to the help of amazing volunteers. Being
on the Tuckshop Roster is a fantastic way to get to know other parents/carers,
grandparents and students; or you can donate home bake or pantry items;
or just pop in for an hour or so on one of our busy mornings. Our Tuckshop
Convenor will train you - no skills or experience are required.
There are a many ways to help:
1. Volunteer in Tuckshop
Volunteers prepare sandwiches, hot meals, lite snacks and drinks and
also serve over the counter items. Find a friend and volunteer together!
Cups of tea or coffee and biscuits are freely available. We have a
radio and might even let you choose the station we’re listening to.
2. Become a Home Baker
This is a great option for parents/carers who are not able to volunteer in
the Tuckshop. Information about contributing homebake is provided in
this booklet. We once had a home baker who supplied all of the
homemade mini quiches and occasionally prepared Bolognese sauce.
There are many ways to help Tuckshop by baking and cooking. Think of
a way you’d like to contribute and let us know.
3. Donate a Coles Gift Card
Donations of Coles Gift Cards are greatly appreciated and help us to
put profits back into improving our Tuckshop.
4. Donate Pantry Items
Donations are greatly appreciated, and information is provided in this
booklet.
How do I volunteer? Please complete the attached form and return it to the
Office or drop it into the Tuckshop Convenor. If you are not a
parent of a child at the school, we will need to apply for a
Volunteer Blue Card for you. You will not incur any costs in
this process. You must have a Blue Card before you can volunteer at
Tuckshop.
If you have any questions, please contact our Convenor, Lana Simic, via
email at [email protected] or on mobile 📱 0438 959 058.

Contributing homebake
The students at Newmarket love the occasional treat of a home-baked item from
Tuckshop. To be able to supply homebake we rely on a group of volunteer home
bakers and this is where you can help! Providing homebake once a term or once
month is an easy way to contribute. For those of you new to homebake and looking
for some guidance, the following points might help.
What to make? You can make muffins, biscuits,
patty cakes, or a slice. We
don’t have set recipes so you
can be as creative as you like
but please NO NUTS. Some
suggestions for items to bake
include – ANZAC biscuits, fruit
muffins, pikelets, lemon cakes,
oaty slice and jam drops. A
great recipe resource is QAST’s
eMenu which you can find at
http://emenu.qast.org.au/.
There is no need to ice – the
less sugar and more fibre the
better!
How many? 18 to 24 items is fabulous.
We sell items for $1.50 each so
patty pan size is great for
muffins and biscuits around
7cm diameter are a good size.
How to deliver? On your designated homebake day, please drop (or
have your child drop) your individually wrapped goodies
into Tuckshop at the beginning of the school day.
Alternatively, you can arrange to leave homebake at
OSHC and we’ll pick it up/they deliver it. In addition,
please provide a list of the ingredients used and the
date on which the goods were baked.
How do I sign up? To add yourself to the homebake roster please either
email Tuckshop Convenor Lana Simic
([email protected]) or give her a call on
📱 0438 959 058 or drop in and say hello to her at
Tuckshop. She will assign you to a day that suits you and
even send you a reminder text the day before.
Happy baking everyone!
