1,170,000,000
In 2 years:
How many dusks and dawns, how many breaths, how many heartbeats, and how many miles has our
Earth has travelled around the sun……BIG numbers.
But, they pale in comparison to the ONE moment when you know you’ve arrived at the right place with the friendships you’ve made as a Sand Dollar and
the NRC of Cape Coral.
Thanks for the good times and the memories…..
September 2012: 5:00 O’Clock Somewhere Reporter: Carol Shultz
The weather has been heating up and the Five O'Clockers have been getting out and enjoying it. Many attended last months dinner dance and had a blast. This month's pot luck took us to the McIver party palace, thanks to Sheri and Spike for a great time. Many in this fun loving group have been spotted all over Cape Coral and Ft. Myers taking part in such activities as Sunday breakfast, Bocce Ball, art walk, music walk, dinner and or cocktails. We are always on the lookout for fun and new places to visit.
Speaking of visiting. some of us have been taking time off to visit family and friends up north, while others are getting ready to head that way soon. Finally, a big congrats to the Deb and Carl who have added a new son-in-law to their family. Get out and have some fun in the sun, and a cocktail (or 2)… It’s Five O'Clock Somewhere.
October 2012: The Coco Locos Reporter: Pam Baxter
The past few months have been spent meeting at Paradise Tiki bar on Mondays. Carol & Cliff had us over Sat. May 9th, which of course we had plenty to eat. Got to see some of our friends we hadn't seen
too much of lately. A lot of us have had company from up north. We have some friends that have already gone back "home" and others getting to head back either for the season up there or just a visit for a couple weeks. We wish everyone safe travels. See you again soon.
November 2012: Dreamers Living the Dream Reporter: Cathy Baker The Dreamers had a wonderful Mother's Day brunch at the home of Steve and Debbie Merz for our May social. As usual there was an abundance of fabulous food and fun. Then a bunch of us headed to a Miracles game. Sadly they lost but we all had a blast. At the end of the month a big group will be heading to Solomon's castle. I look forward to hearing all about that! And the men are trying to get a trip to Zoomer's together for a fun time of go-karting. The weather is getting warmer which slows us down a bit but we continue... Living the Dream
December 2012: Birds in Paradise Reporter: Joan Thompson
Last we spoke, the Birds In Paradise were preparing for the Ticky Tacky Prom. Did anyone not notice Katie Balaban’s breast enhancement, and what was in the water that there were so many pregnant girls at Prom?
While many Snowbirds left for their summer abodes, Toni Swanson pleasure-traveled again, this time to New Orleans and then to Breaux Bridge, LA for the Crawfish Festival. The Reiters also recently returned from a nice trip around the mid-Atlantic area and DC.
Donna Milbee and Michael Urban hosted another great Kentucky Derby party with Mint Juleps and beautiful millenary confections. There were food and wagers and laughter, as usual. There was even some wet and wild horse racing happening in the pool! Ask Donna, Donna and Katie.
We had a great Pelican Roost Brunch Picnic at Cape Harbour with 21 attending, mostly pelicans wishing the last few snowbirds Bon Voyage. It was particularly great

seeing Debbi and Anthony Baglio and Donna Childs and Dick Meiners.
Speaking of Bon Voyage, Katie Balaban was pictured in Paris at a café with Marie and Joe Hauser. We Birds In Paradise flock together not matter which country we may inhabit at the moment. The Birds’ deepest sympathies go out to Rich Karpinski on the death of his brother.
June birthday tweets go out to Marie Hauser, Michael Urban, James Balaban, and Donna Childs.
Tweet you next month!
January 2013: Aquaholics Reporter: Paula Russell
Seven Aquaholics attended the monthly general meeting May 6th. Lady Luck hid from our group this month during the raffle prize drawing. Eight women attended the Ladies Luncheon at Rumrunners, May 15th. Dau, Patty and Diane won door prizes. At least one or two couples plan to enjoy Cocktails on the Cape and the Dinner/Dance.
All the snowbirds have flown north leaving the Pelicans to continue the Aquaholic fun. All the potlucks have been planned through November.
May’s Potluck was a combined Kentucky Derby/Cinco De Mayo Party at LuAnn and Howard’s home. The lady
Aquaholics wore their best Kentucky Derby hats and brought forth an amazing Mexican Fiesta. Diane and Patty won prizes for best hats. Richard and Mal had
winning Derby horses.
Diane hosted a game night May 5th. The Ladies Bunco group will be at LuAnn’s house, May 22nd. Beach Days, Shopping Days and other fun Aquaholic activities are being planned.
The Aquaholics still have 43 active members and have decided to continue all activities after we graduate January 2015.
June/July 2013: Knotty Nauticals Reporter: Evelyn Ferguson
May has been a settling in month for those Knotty's serving on Board '94. Several Knotty's have been out of town this month visiting family and friends. Knotty Nautical destinations of the month included Texas, California, New York and
Michigan. Our Knotty Night Out this month was at The Joint.
The May Pot Luck was hosted by Mike and Connie Ehret. We enjoyed BBQ ribs and swimming in the pool. Anyone who wanted to challenge Louis, the group fishing guru, brought their fishing pole for a fishing contest. A great time
was had by all.
August/Sept. 2013: Surfside Socialites Reporter: Cheryl Rhine
The Surfside ladies have been active as usual. On April 22nd the ladies had a very special luncheon at Blaze Bistro. This cozy and eclectic bistro has been open several months for dinner, but Lynne Mulvey convinced the owner to open to the ladies for a private lunch with a variety of delectable offerings. Later that week, steered by Maureen Connor, nine ladies ventured north to Sarasota for a bountiful day at St. Armand’s Circle in Sarasota. Then Marla Breault did an excellent job organizing the May 6th ladies luncheon at Brew Babies. We had 15 ladies attend and we were seated in their beautiful courtyard. The weather was perfect and the food
was wonderful.
Not to overlook the entire Socialites’ membership, the group was invited on the “Big M Casino” for a day of luck on May 10th. Sheri & Tom Webber put the event together and even
hosted a “gambling refresher” just prior to our Saturday

casino excursion. Then on the 16th, Jeff and Nancy Davis hosted the monthly members’ get-together at the gorgeous Aubuchon model home on Cape Coral Parkway overlooking the river from its elegantly adorned “lanaiscape.” It was a splendid sandwich buffet affair featuring lovely desserts such as homemade pecan pie, almond cream filled strawberries and
chocolate cherry tarts.
Thanks for all that make this group fun and friendly.
October 2013: Partying Pirates Reporter: Fran Orphal
May was a fun month, Pirates enjoyed seeing the Gatlins Show at the Big Game restaurant. Ron and Teresia Slotkus hosted Game night on May 10th. Phyllis Walters lead a group in a Junk/Treasure Shopping Day where Pirates found many a treasure. Kim & Charlie Haftarczky are hosting our Red White & Blue Memorial Day Potluck. Kim & Charlie will also be hosting Game night on May 30th.
November 2013: Tropical Transplants Reporter: Mary Lou Houghten
The Tropical Transplants have had a busy month. Most of us closed out April with a Mexican theme pot luck at the Houghten's. As always, the food was delicious! The only thing missing were the Margaritas. Several of our ladies enjoyed a terrific lunch and great conversation at the Rum Runners Ladies' Luncheon. We are looking forward to our next pot luck on Memorial Day at the McIver's. It will be joint with the "It's Five O'clock Somewhere" group. Thank you Spike and Sheri. We are looking forward to making more new friends!! As my husband and I prepare to go North for the summer, we just want to say that joining the New Residence Club, and especially the Tropical Transplants group, has been fantastic. We can't wait till fall and our return to this great city.
February 2014: “S” Capers Reporter: Bert Bilancioni
The well attended Mexican Theme Pot Luck Dinner at Steve and Sue Robert’s beautiful home was a gas! The variety of homemade Mexican delectables was astounding and very much in keeping with Cinco de Mayo one day earlier. Thanks again Steve and Susan. Glenn & Jackie gave notice at the The Del Prado dance that they can boogie with the best of them. However Ed Haggett said he and wife Debbie are scheduled to take dancing lessons and will challenge the Chenots next season. Richard and Janetta hardly ever left the dance floor so it was difficult to see what kind of moves they were perfecting for the next outing. Several S-Capers attended the general meeting wearing our new S-Caper shirts which were a big hit. Thanks Chai, Debi and Margie. This will be the final report of the season by me so hasta manyana until September/October.
March/April 2014: Paradise Found Co-leaders/reporters: Bruce & Page Flournoy
We are no longer the newest kids on the block and we’re having fun getting to know our blended group. Thank you to Michelle Jacobs for hosting a really enjoyable evening at her
house! We admired all your antique collectables!
Michelle and I have since explored Flea Masters together, a week after Joanne Higgins and I did. A few of us got together at the Sunset Celebration, joining up with some Sons of Beaches members. The music was fabulous and the weather perfect. If you didn't make it, come next month. We ran into other NRC members too, which was nice. It was
a beautiful evening!
A few of us have started working out at a gym. We joined some from It's Five o'Clock Somewhere. The more the merrier!! Some of us have tried Bocce Ball, line dancing other activities we've never tried before. Camp NRC has
expanded our horizons!

Wasn't the Tacky Prom dance inspired? Some outfits were too funny! Fred & Nita, Linda and Jim Greene and Andra
and Chuck Fabac to name a few!
Nita had some good luck with raffles that night but not such good luck walking her dog... and now has a broken foot on the mend. A few of us have been regulars at their place
while she convalesces.
As we get together outside of group activities, explore the area, shop, meet for dinner and more, I want to say, it's
wonderful to have you as friends!
Marci continues her winning streak! Now that's Paradise
Found!

NRC June Cocktails on the Cape

June 2014
Dear New Residents, Happy summer! Oh wait, it’s always summer here – and aren’t we lucky! May was filled with so many fun events. I hope you tried at least one new thing, just for the heck of it! Game night, line dancing, Cocktails on the Cape, (who can resist Miceli’s?) Ladies Luncheon, the Dinner Dance or even your group’s Pot Luck. How lucky are we to have these choices – all of the time! Steve and I visited family and friends in Houston in Mid-May. Although we had a wonderful time, we couldn’t wait to get home to paradise! We forgot how crazy the traffic and airports are in big cities. We missed our local Mom & Pop places (please check out all of the businesses that support the NRC in this Newsletter and support them), the beautiful, smogless sunsets, etc! As Dorothy said in The Wizard of Oz, “There’s no place like home!” Our newest, yet to be named group had a wonderful turnout at the New Residents Social, and their first Pot Luck. After just two hours at the social they had so many fun, old and new connections— especially poker! It is so awesome to watch the NRC at work with new people. Everyone left with a smile on his or her face—knowing that his or her fun new life had just begun! So, check out June’s schedule on page four. Try something different…go to the baseball game, go bowling—or come to the Jungle Blast. You know it will be grand! And, while you're at it, stop by the New Member’s table and offer them a welcome handshake. You'll be glad you did! Livin’ the Dream! Cathy Corey, CEO Board 94
