A reminiscence of

Res O’ Week by Mollie McArthur

BEARS-MAPS

Res has finally kicked off! And I don’t know about anyone else but it was a long summer

without the entertainment of everyone’s antics on res.

The first night was a chilled affair with Resi ice cream, which

proved a huge success with loads of resis making the trek to

MB for everyone’s favourite cold food. With the music blast-

ing and all the toppings you could possibly want, the night was

a great chance for all of res to mingle and start making

friends.

The second day was a big

one with tonnes of activi-

ties being run all day, from taking a tour and stocking

up on groceries to dancing in the rain (or water pistol

friendly fire) while learning our classic Res Dance. Then

we dressed in our best rare kit and strutted our stuff

with no shame at Mrs Robinsons.

On Wednesday we became locals and also went back to

school for Res Crawl, finishing up at Arcadia with help

from the Red Frogs.

Thursday was a blast with free bacon and eggs to be

had by all. Then we sweated off all that bacon at Res

Sport while praying for our lives we didn’t receive a

Frisbee to the face. Hunger Games was a mess as usual

with plenty of wasabi and eggs for everyone.

Fluro night at the Pal was a great success with Gary

getting the crowds rowdy as usual. The alternative was

Res Fest which provided plenty of laughs and popcorn

for everyone.

Fridays BBQ and Chill provided the goods and show-

cased some resi talent while everyone enjoyed free

food and a relaxing end of the week. Overall it was a

great start to the year, and is a great indicator of

how good the rest of 2016 will be with all the charac-

ters we have on res this year.

Please be aware and adhere to the Resi guest policy.

The full details of the policy can be found in the Residences Handbook:

A visitor is defined as a person who is meeting with a resident for a short period of time, while a guest is defined as a person who is staying overnight with a resident.

Any non-resident who is present without a guest pass after noise curfew of 11pm will be required to leave the residences, and the resident responsible for that visitor will incur a $50.00 fine.

The University reserves the right to charge an amenity fee to anyone staying more than three nights in a 7-day period.

A guest must be accommodated in the host resident’s room, and not the lounge room or other common area.

Residents need to organise a dated guest pass from resi reception before 11pm. The guest is required to carry the pass with them at all times.

The host resident is responsible for the behaviour and conduct of their guests. The host is also responsible for informing the other people in their unit that they have a guest staying overnight.

where no individual is identified the Residence manager reserves the right to apportion the

cost across all the residents of the unit involved.

CATE IMMEDIATELY.

Block/Floor Netball Teams Team registrations are due this week for the Wednesday night Res Netball

competition. You RL’s will be organising a team so please let them know if you

are willing to play

Walk In Her Shoes (8- 14 March)- Women and girls in developing countries walk an average of 6km every day to collect water, food and firewood for their families. By signing up to Walk in Her Shoes and getting friends to sponsor you, you can raise funds to support CARE Australia’s vital projects that help reduce the distance women and girls have to walk by providing clean water and nutritious food close to home.

This means girls can spend more time in school, women can earn an income and together they can help their communities step out of poverty. The week long challenge kicks off on International Women’s Day. Thousands of Australians will walk every day from 8 to 14 March 2016.

You can choose to walk 25km, 50km or 100km over the weekend and raise money and awareness for projects that help break the cycle of poverty.

Purchasing your permit online

You can now purchase your long term parking permit online using a valid credit card. Permits are now valid for 4 months (120 days) or 12 months (365 days) from the date of purchase.

If you’re ready to purchase your long term permit, please click here.

Physical permits are no longer required

Our new parking permit system is based on vehicle registrations and physical permits will no longer be provided or required to be displayed on your vehicle. You can enter up to three vehi-cles on your permit but only one vehicle can be active at any time. Important reminder: when you bring a different vehicle to campus, it is your responsibility to select and activate a different vehicle on your vPermit account.

Short Term Parking Permits – Casual (hourly/daily)

CellOPark is our new ‘Pay As You Go’ mobile App provider. You can establish a CellOPark ac-count with a valid debit or credit card. Your parking session can be managed on your mobile de-vice (smartphone, laptop, and computer) or by making a phone call. You no longer need to deter-mine how long you’ll require parking prior to purchasing a ticket and potentially paying for more time than you needed. With our new system, you’ll only be charged for the parking time you ac-tually use.

To register

To register, simply install the free CellOPark Australia App and complete the short sign-up form. You can enter up to three vehicles on your account but only one vehicle can park at any time. Please take extra care to ensure you enter your vehicle registration/s correctly (the most common mistake to avoid is entering the letter ‘I’ instead of the number ‘1’ or the letter ‘O’ in-stead of the number ‘0’ or vice versa).

To start a casual parking permit session

Select your location, the relevant campus zone number and ‘START’. Remember to STOP’ when you leave so that you only pay for the time you park.

The CellOPark zone numbers for Burwood campus is: 1040300
