WELCOME

Welcome to the 2017 Annual Maryland Recreation and Parks Association Conference in Ocean City, Maryland.

I am so excited to join all of you in Reigniting the Fire! while participating in workshops, networking with colleagues, and celebrating accomplishments. The conference committee, led by Carolyn Ryan and Wendy Donley, has done a great job putting together workshops and activities that are meant to motivate you to integrate innovative ideas and programs when you return to your agency at the end of the week.

The fire will be lit by our keynote speaker, Michelle Neujahr, Founder and President-The Business Renovation Company LLC. Her high energy should challenge and get you “ignited” for the conference.

This year’s conference is packed with new ideas and workshops. Whether you work in a community center or the administration office, there are workshops for you. The most exciting new addition is the Maintenance Track. Joe O’Neill has done an outstanding job putting together hands-on workshops specifically for our maintenance professionals.

Along with information and motivation, we can’t send you back without the resources to keep the fire going in your communities. The Exhibit Hall is a great place to find the supplies and equipment needed to successfully implement all of the new ideas and programs you discover at the conference. In addition, there are always games and prizes in the Exhibit Hall.

A special thanks goes out to the entire conference committee, professional certification board, and MRPA Staff. The conference committee and professional certification board work together for 12 months to ensure the success of the conference. Most importantly, we are supported by three awesome staff, Chuck Montrie, Adrienne Varieur, and Daune Cook. I will never know how they are able to provide our membership with everything we need for all MRPA sponsored programs and activities. The work they do at the conference will give you an idea of their level of dedication to MRPA. It just can’t be measured.

Enjoy the conference and remember to leave Reignited!

Special Thank You to the

Mary Jean and Oliver Travers Foundation, Inc.

for their Generous Donation to the

MRPA Conference Education Program. The Foundation was established approximately 40 years ago, funded modestly by the Schenuit Tire Company to help qualifying community events. Schenuit Tire was founded by Mary Jean's dad Frank Schenuit. Over the years, as other family members moved on and Schenuit Tire was sold, the name of the foundation was changed to the Mary Jean and Oliver Travers Foundation, Inc. In recent years the family has continued to grow the foundation's assets and provide to their children a means to express philanthropy. The foundation has stayed true to its roots and continues, as it did over 40 years ago, to express the family's desire to help organizations with annual gifts. This gift will provide a quality educational opportunity for the MRPA conference.
