11,SLOPE OPERATION

Slopes are a major factor related to loss ofcontrol and tip-over accidents, which canresult in severe injury or death. Operationon all slopes requires extra caution. If youcannot back up the slope or ifyou feel uneasyon it, do not mow it.• Mow up and down slopes, not across.• Watch for holes, ruts, bumps, rocks, or

other hidden objects.- Uneven terraincould overturn the machine. Tall grasscan hide obstacles.

• Choose a low ground speed so that youwill not have to stop or shift while on theslope.

• Do not mow onwet grass. Tires may losetraction.Always keep the machine in gear whengoing downslopes. Do notshiftto neutraland coast downhill.

• Avoid starting, stopping, or turning on aslope, lfthetires losetraction, disengagethe blades and proceed slowly straightdown the slope.

• Keep all movement on the slopes slowand gradual. Do not make suddenchanges in speed or direction, whichcould cause the machine to roll over.

• Use extra care while operating machinewith grass catchers orother attachments;they can affect the stability of the ma-chine. Do no use on steep slopes.

• Do not try to stabilize the machine byputting your foot on the ground.

• Do not mow near drop-offs, ditches,or embankments. The machine couldsuddenly roll over if a wheel is over theedge or if the edge caves in.

I!1, CHILDREN

• Keep children out of the mowing areaand in the watchful care of a responsibleadult other than the operator,

• Be alert and turn machine off if a childenters the area.Before and while backing, look behindand down for small children.

• Never carrychildren, evenwith the bladesshutoff. They may falloffand beseriouslyinjured or interfere with safe machineoperation. Children who havebeen givenrides inthe past may suddenly appear inthe mowing area for another ride and berun over or backed over by the machine.

• Never allow children to operate the ma-chine.

• Use extra care when approaching blindcorners, shrubs, trees, or other objectsthat may block your view of a child.

IV, TOWING• Tow only with a machine that has a hitch

designed for towing. Do not attach towedequipment except at the hitch point.

• Followthemanufacturer'srecommenda-tion for weight limits for towed equipmentand towing on slopes.

• On slopes, the weight ofthetowed equip-ment may cause loss of traction and lossof control.

HOW TO USE YOUR TRACTORTO SET PARKING BRAKE

ADD GASOLINE• Fill fuel tank to bottom offiller neck. Do not

PURGE TRANSMISSION

_CAUTION: Never engage or disengagefreewheel lever while the engine is running.

To ensure properoperation and performance,it is recommended that the transmission bepurged before operating tractor for the firsttime. This procedure will remove anytrappedair inside the transmission which may havedeveloped during shipping of your tractor.IMPORTANT: Should your transmissionrequire removal for service or replacement,itshould be purged after reinstallation beforeoperating the tractor.1. Place tractor safely on a level surface -

that is clear of objects and open - withengine off and parking brake set.

2. Disengage transmission by placingfreewheel control indisengaged position(See "TO TRANSPORT" in this sectionof manual).

3. Sitting in the tractor seat, start engine.After the engine is running, move throttlecontrol to slow position. With motioncontrol lever in neutral position, slowlydisengage clutch/brake pedal,

MOWING TIPS• Tire chains cannot be used when the

mower housing is attached to tractor,• Mower should be properly levered for best

mowing performance. See "TO LEVELMOWER HOUSING" in the Service andAdjustments section of this manual,

• The left hand side of mower should beused for trimming.

• Drive sothat clippings are discharged ontothe area that has already been cut. Havethe cut area to the right of the tractor. Thiswill result in a more even distribution ofclippings and more uniform cutting.

• When mowing large areas, start byturningto the right so that clippings will dischargeaway from shrubs, fences, driveways,etc. After one or two rounds, mow in theopposite direction making lefthand turnsuntil finished.

• If grass is extremely tall, it should bemowed twice to reduce load and possiblefire hazard from dried clippings, Makefirst cut relatively high; the second to thedesired height.

Replace the engine oil filter every season orevery other oil change if the tractor is usedmore than 100 hours in one year.

Your engine will not run properly using adirty air filter. Service paper cartridge every100 hours of operation or every season,whichever occurs first.Service air cleaner more often under dustyconditions.1, Remove cover.2. Carefully remove air filter cartridge and

BATTERY

* Fully charge the battery for storage.- After a period of time in storage, battery

may require recharging.• Tohelp prevent corrosion and power leak-

age during long periods of storage, batterycables should be disconnected and bat-tery cleaned thoroughly (see "TO CLEAN

ENGINEFUEL SYSTEMIMPORTANT: It is important to preventgum deposits from forming in essential fuelsystem parts such as carburetor, fuel hose,or tank during storage. Also, alcohol blendedfuels (called gasohol or using ethanol ormethanol) can attract moisture which leadsto separation and formation of acids duringstorage. Acidic gas can damage the fuelsystem of an engine while in storage.• Empty the fuel tank by starting the engine

and letting it run until the fuel lines andcarburetor are empty.

. Never use engine or carburetor cleanerproducts in the fuel tank or permanentdamage may occur.

• Use fresh fuel next season.NOTE: Fuel stabilizer is an acceptable al-ternative in minimizing the formation of fuelgum deposits during storage. Add stabilizerto gasoline in fuel tank or storage container.Alwaysfollowthe mix ratiofound onstabilizercontainer. Recomendarnos galas de seguridad ouna mdscara de vision amplia de seguridad ussda, soh,re,,!,as,,,g,afas.

COMO USAR SU TRACTORPARA AJUSTAR EL FRENO DE ESTACIONA-MIENTOSu tractor viene equipado con un interruptorsen-sor que exige la presencia del operador. Cuandoel motor est& funcionando, si el operador trata debajarse del asiento sin primeroaplicar el freno deestacionamiento, se apagar& el motor.1. Presione et pedal (D) del freno!embrague

completamente y sostengalo.2_ Jale hacia arriba la palanca def freno de

mano (H) y mant6ngala en esa posici6n;suelte gradualmente et pedal deI embragueifreno (D), y luego suelte la paianca del frenode mane. El pedal tiene que quedar en ]aposici6n de freno. Aseg_rese que el frenode estacionam[ento va a sujetar el tractor enforma segura.

AVISO:Si no se mueve la palanca de mandoentre Ia posici6n de velocidad media y m_xima(r_.pida), antes de pararse, se puede causar un"retorno de llama" del motor,

• Gire la ]lave de ignici6n (F) a la posici6n deapagado "STOP" y remueva la llave al aban-donar el tractor para evitar el uso no autorizado.

2. Con [a segadora a la altura deseada para iaposiciSnde corte, se tienen que montar Iasruedas calibracloras de modo que quedenun poco sobre e{ sue|o. Insta(e las ruedascalibradoras en el agujero adecuado con elpemo con resatto, la arandela de 3/8, y latuerca de seguridad de 3/8-16 y apri_teIosen forma segura.

3. Repita el procedimiento para el lade opuestoinstalando ta rueda calibradora en el mismoagujero de ajuste.

• Coloque (a palanca elevadora en la ranura dela altura deseada.

La garna de la altura de corte es de aproxima-damente 1 a 4 pulgadas. Las alturas se midendesde el sueto a la punta de la cuchilla cuandoel motor no est_ funcionando. AGREGUE GASOLINA• Llene el estanque de combustible. Llene

haste Ia parte inferior del cuello de relleno deIestanque de gasolina. No Io Ilene demasiado.Use gasolina regular, sin plomo, nueva y lim-pia con el minimo de 87 octanes. (El use degasolina con plomo aumentar& los dep6sitosde 6xido de plemo y carbono y se reducir_, laduraci6n de la v_dvula). No mezcle el aceitecon lagasolina. Paraasegurar que lagasolinautitizada sea fresca compre estanques los cu-ales puedan set utilizados durante los primeros30 dins.

_PRECAUOI6N: Limpie el aceiteoelcombus-tible derramado. No almacene, derrame o usegasolina cerca de una llama expuesta.IMPORTANTE: Cuando se opere en temperatu-res per debajo de 32°F (O°C) use gasolina deinviemo limpia y,nueva pare auedar a asegurarun buen arranque en clime frio.PRECAUClON: Combustibles mezclados conalcohol (conocidos come gasohoI, o el use deetanol o metanol) pueden atraer Ia humedad,la que conduce ala separaci6n y formaci6n de&cidos durante el almacenamiento. La gasolineacidica puede dafter el sistema dot combustiblede un motor durante el almacenamiento. Paraevitar los problemas con el motor, se debe vaciarel sistema de combustible antes de guardarlo perun periodo de 30 dies o m&s. Vacie el estanquede combustible, haga arrancar el motor y h_.galofuncionar hasta que las lineas del cornbustible y elcarburador queden vacios. La pr6xima temporadause combustible nuevo. PARA HACER ARRANCAR EL MOTOR

AI hacer arrancar el motor per la primera vez o sise haacabado elcombustible delmotor, se necesi-tar& tiempo pare el arranque extra para mover elcombustible desde el estanque haste el motor.1. AsegL_reseque el control de rueda libre este

en la posici6n enganchada.2. Si_ntase en el sill6n en la posici6n de oper-

aci6n, suelte el pedal delfreno y pongael frenode estacionamiento.

6, Inserte la Itave en la ignici6n y gire Ia Ilave enel sentido que giran las maniltas del reloj a [aposici6n de arranque start, y suelte la Ilavetanpronto come arranque el motor, No haga fun-cionar el arrancador continuamente per m&sde quince segundos per minute. Si el motor noarranca despuL,s de varies intentados, muevael control de la acelerac[6n ala posici6n der&pido,espere unos cuantos minutes ytrate denuevo. Si el motor sigue sin funcionar, muevael control de Ia aceleraci6n ala posici6n deestrangulaci6n y intente de nuevo.

ARRANQUE CON TIEMPO TEMPLADO(50° F!10°C y m&s)7. Cuando arranque el motor, mueva el control

de Ia aceleraci6n ala posici6n de r_.pido.• Losaccesorios y el embrague ahem pueden

set utilizados. Si el motor no acepta estacarga, vuelva a arrancar el motor pare per-mitirle que secaJienteper un minute utilizan-do et estrangulador come describido arriba.

ARRANQUE CON TIEMPO FRiO(50° Fi10°C y menos)7. A1 hacer arrancar ef motor, mantenga el

control de la aceleraci6n ala posici6n de es-trangulacibn hasta que el motor se caliente yempieze funcionar mal. Una vez que empiezea funcionar real, mueva inmediatamente elcontrol de ]a aceleraci6n ala posici6n r&pida.El calentamiento del motor puede tomar apartir de varies segundos a varies minutes(cuanto m_.sfria es la temperatura, m&s largoes el calentamiento).

CALENTAMIENTO PARA LA TRANSMISIONAUTOMATICA

Antes de conducir Ia unidad en un tiempo frio, latransmisi6n debe ser calentada come las instruc-clones siguientes:1. Aseg6rese que el tractor este situado en una

superficie nivelada.2. Alivie el freno de estacionamiento y deie" que

PURGAR LA TRANSMISION

Para asegurar Ia operaci6ny ejecuci6n adecuada,es recomendado que ta transmisibnsea purgadaantes de operar el tractor para la primera vez,Este proceso remover& cualquier aire adentrode la transmisi6n que se halla formado duranteel transporte de su tractor.IMPORTANTE: Si poracaso su transmisi6n debeser removida para servicio o reemplazo, debeser purgada despu_s de Ia reinstataci6n y antesde operar e] tractor.1. Para mayor seguddad, ubique el tractor en

una superficie nivelada, despejada de cual-quier objeto y abierta, con el motor apagadoy el freno de mano puesto.

2. Desenganche la transmisi6n poniendo elcontrolde rueda libre en la posici6nde desen-ganchado (Vea"PAPA ELTPANSPORTE" enesta secci6n de este manual).

3. Sentado en el asiento del tractor, ernpieceel motor. Despu@s que este corriendo el mo-tor, mueva el control de estrangulaci6n a taposici6n de lento. Con la palanca de ruedalibre en la posici6n de neutral, desenganchelentamente ef embragueleI freno del pedal.

_t_PREOAUCI6N: En el transcurso del paso 4,puede que de pronto se pongan en movimientolas ruedas.

4. Mueva Ia palanca del control de movimientoa Ia posicibntotal de adelante y suj_tela du-rante cinco (5) segundos. Mueva la palancahacia ta posici6n total de marcha atr&s ysuj@teladurante cinco (5) segundos. Repitaeste proceso tres (3) veces.

5. Mueva Ia palanca del control de movimientoa la posici6n de neutro. Apague el motor yembrague el freno de estacionamiento.

6. Enganche la tmnsmisi6n poniendo el controlde rueda libre en la posiciSn de conducir (Vea"PARA TRANSPORTAR" en esta secci6n deemanual).

CONSEJOS PARA SEGAR• Nose pueden usar lascadenas para las Ilantas

cuando ]a caja de la segadora estd adjunta altractor.

• La segadora debe estar nivelada en formaadecuada para obtener el mejor rendimiento

• aI segar. Vea "PARA NIVELAR LA CAJA DELA SEGADOR_' en la secci6n de Servicio yAjustes de este manual.

• El Iado izquierdo de Ia segadora se debe usarpara recorte.

• Maneje de modo que los recortes se descarguenen e! &rea que ya ha sido cortada. Mantengael &tea de corte a Ia derecha del tractor. Estoproducir& una distribuci6n m&s pareja de losrecortes y un corte m&s uniforme.

. AI segar las _,rea grandes, empiece girando aIa derecha de modo que los recortes se des-carguen, alej&ndose de los arbustos, cercos,entradas de autom6viles, etc. Despu_s de unao dos vueltas, siegue en la direcci6n opuesta,haciendo virajes a Ia izquierda, hasta quetermine.

• Si el c@sped esta demasiado alto, se debesegar dos veces para reducir la carga y losposibles peligros de incendio debido a losrecor_es secos. Haga el primer corte relativa-mente alto; el segundo a Ia altura deseada.

• No siegue el c_sped cuando est& mojado. Elc_sped mojado taponar& la segadora y dejar&montones indeseables. Permita que se sequeet c6sped antes de segarlo.

• Siempreopere el motor con una aceleraci6neompleta cuando siegue para asegurarsede conseguir un mejor rendimiento y unadescargaapropiada delos materiales. Regule

Repita este procedimiento la palan-ca de control de movimiento tres (3) veces.

FILTRO DE AIRESu equipo no funcionard correctamente si elfiltro de aire est,. sucio, Cada 25 horas de fun-cionamiento o en cada temporada, reemplaceel pre limpiador; y el cartucho donde viene elpapel [servicepaper cartridge] reemp!,_celocada100 horas de operaci6n o en cada temporada,seg_n el momento en el que primero ello seanecesario.Lo que ocurre con mayor probabilidad es que ellimpiador del senticio de aire este sucio.1. Quite la cubierta.2. Con mucho cuidado, quite el cartucho del filtro

de aire y el pre fimpiador de Ia base.3. IJmpie la base con mucho cuidado para evitar

que caiga ninguna particula en el carburador.

CONTROL DEL FRENO

t. Aparcar el tractor en una supefficie niveladade hormig6n seco o pavimentada, presionarel pedal deI freno hasta el rondo y accionarel freno de estacionamiento.

2. Desembragar la transmisi6n colocando elmando de Ia rueda libre en la posici6n"trans-misi6n desembragada'. Tirar el mando de larueda libre fuera y dentro la ranura y soltaras_se coloca en la posici6ndesembragada.

Las ruedas traseras tiene que bloquearse y pa-tinar cuando se intenta empujar hacia adelanteet tractor manualmente. Sustituir ]as zapatas delfreno o contactar con Sears o con un otto centrede servicio cualificado.

REEMPLAZAR LA BATERIA

Antes deinstalar la bateria remueva tas pulseras de metal,los relojes de pulsera de metal, los anillos, etc.E1terminal positivo tiene que conectarse primeropara evitar las chispas debido a Ia conexibn atierra por accidente.
