Salvage -'- The Salvage for Victory drive was quite a success.. Col-lection cf scrap metal an can ted to about 60 tons. Butkeep in mind that salvage is .a continual process, and one clay's "search is not enough. Better start collecting for tills month'sdrive now. 'Phpnes_ "" The council has set upprefential listings with, the tele-phone coup any, but due to legal can plications ? the list-ings haven't been put into effect yet. The telephone cor,p any un-doubtedly wJl 1 be able to ctxitrol telephone traffic in a real ercer."gency, but for the time being their obligations dur i-ng tests are amatter of legal opinion. This cond.it ion is State-wide, not local. And if the public cooperates, there will be no difficulty* Unfortun-ately, the public has not cooperated, ' So far, publicity and adver-tising don't seem to have worked. Maybe when our own Civilian De-fense inemb ers have been educated, the public will be educated, too.

On one occasion recaitly, headquarters caller! m -theMedical Service aid several sectors on a specific test. One of theMedical unit has a husband who was a warden in a sector not beingtested. He cs lied all of his wardens to staid by. These wardenscalled friends of theirs to prepare them. The chain system workedperfectly. .livery service was on duty waiting for a call when onlycertain ones were needed f cr the test. But unfortunately, thetelephone lines were so crippled by the time we were ready to runthe inclcle nts that Control Center was limping, Polii.ce lines werejammed; fire lines were not open, You in the services know the im-portance of coirmumcations. Learn to cooperate - - then teach yourneighbor.

Hot Weather I. ews It's a little late for this to happen now, butState Director Leonard Dreyfuss got the follow-ing letter this summer; "Could you kindly instruct your air raidwardens to-'wait until they get inside a person's house before theyask such personal questions as people's ages? It is not very digni-fied to have to answer such questions before a row of neighborssitting outdoors."
