BAND ACHIEVEMENTSWe are very proud of our bands who performed at the Hornsby North Music Festival last Sunday. Stage Band performed one of their well-known pieces and one that they recently started playing. Congratulations on achieving a Distinction.Concert Band played two pieces that were a large step up in difficulty from what they have previously attempted in other festivals. They performed the pieces the best they have ever played them. Congratulations on achieving a Credit.

Intermediate Band played two familiar pieces and achieved a Distinction.Training Band played two familiar pieces and achieved a Credit which is a wonderful result for such a small band. Thank you to our conductors, P & C Band Committee and the teachers (Mrs Armstrong, Mr Eggelton and Mrs Tahir) who supported our students at this event.

Good luck to our students performing at the Music Festival this Thursday evening. We are sure you will make your parents and our school very proud.

THANK YOU HELPERSThank you to the wonderful group of mums who sorted through ‘lost property’ last Friday (during the heat). As a school community we are lucky to have so many dedicated helpers who support our students, staff and parents.

HIGH SCHOOL TRANSITION WORKSHOPOn Wednesday night over 40 parents attended the Transition to High School Parent Information Session presented by Peter Treynor from Child and Adolescent Parenting Group NSW Health. The information around communicating with your pre teen and teenager was particularly well received. Parents appreciated the opportunity to talk with other parents facing the same challenges and uncertainties as their children transition to high school. Thank you to Miss Gerard for organising and attending this session and also to Mr Johnston for his support.

KINDERGARTEN ENROLMENT FOR 2019We will starting Kindergarten orientation next week. Please ensure you enrol your child NOW if he/she is a local student who turns 5 by 31 July 2019. The P & C has voted to support the enrolment of non-local siblings for next year. This decision is examined annually by the school and community, as our numbers are increasing and our site has limitations. All enrolments for 2019 should be completed as soon as possible to ensure students do not miss out on our wonderful orientation program.

STUDENT SAFETYPlease remind your child/children about safely crossing roads. Last week a parent reported a dangerous incident at the back gate. It is important that parents do not stand on or stay in the car on the opposite side of the road and call their children to them across the road.

BAND HANDS ON NIGHT 2018Tonight, Tuesday November 6, at 6.30pm in the school Hall the EHPS Band will hold a night where students get the unique opportunity to try out the various instruments which make up the band. This Hands On night involves the opportunity to physically pick up and play all the instruments, a chance to talk and to be assessed by a professional musician as to whether a child has the physical capacity to actually play the particular instrument of choice. Playing an instrument and getting the best out of the experience is not just about practice, it’s about being passionate about playing the instrument and having the physical capacity (ie sometimes this requires lung capacity, finger reach or an ability to have the right shape formed by their mouth). Children do not need to have any historical musical experience to be able to join the EHPS Band program. We have a variety of instruments available to play and a number available to loan for the first year of playing with the EHPS band, some of the larger instruments are available for loan for longer due to cost of purchasing these individually. We currently have more than 100 students participating in the EHPS Bands and they are learning to play a variety of musical instruments and styles of music with their friends and positively participating and contributing to the band and greater school community by providing live music for all to enjoy.

We welcome all students from EHPS to participate in this Hands On night.Students need to be in Year 3 (2019) or above to join the band program in 2019.

As always we welcome students in Years 4 to 6 in 2019 who are not currently in the school band but are currently learning an instrument to join the EHPS Band and you are also welcome to attend this night as well.

For more information about the EHPS Band program please see our website www.ehpsband.com or contact us via [email protected] .
