BAYPQRTKurt Bensch, who was out for
a ride with Mrs. Bensch last Sun-day, stopped on the Patchogue-Yaphank road , where he saw a carparked and a number of people ex-citedly looking into the woods. Hewas surprised to see a black bearcavorting around , but when henoticed that it had on a collar andchain it occurred to Mr. Benschthat it undoubtedly belonged toGardner Murdock . of Hunter's Innat Southhaven. He drove to the innfive miles away and discoveredthat one of the two bears had madehis escape about two days before.Andrew Erhardt went back toYaphank with Mr. Bensch and to-gether iiiuy enticed the bear intothe car with sugar. Shortly beforethey reached the inn , however , thebear became so unruly that Mr.Erhardt was forced to get out andwalk the remainder of the way.

The local firemen enjoyed theirannual turkey dinner on Wednes-day evening with about 90' of themen and their guests present.' Anumber of bids have been receivedfor the alterations of the Fire Hallbut thus far so contract has beenawarded for the work.
Specifications are out for a newstore building to be erected as anaddtion to the Koulston buildingowned by William L. Mantha. Thenew store will house a confec-tionery and light lunch room to beconducted bjr^Mr. and Mrs. EmileStoll. Mr. Mantha has not yetawarded the contract.
