Never ScriptThe theme of Never is: “I

can never get what I

most want.” Andrew

often says he would like

to get into a steady

relationship with a

woman. But he has never

done so.

Page 4: Never script - - Transactional Analysis

Never ScriptIn fact, he never seems to get started going to places where he might meet new women. He is often thought he would like to go back to college and study for a degree. But he hasn’t got round yet to submitting applications papers.

Page 5: Never script - - Transactional Analysis

Never ScriptIn his Never script pattern, Andrew is like Tantalus, who was condemned to stand eternally in the middle of a pool of water. To one side of the pool was a store of food, to the other side a crock of water. But both were just out of his reach, and he stayed hungry and thirsty.

Page 6: Never script - - Transactional Analysis

Never ScriptIn the myth, Tantalus didn’t seem to realize that he could get hold of food and water by just taking a step to either side. A person in the Never script pattern is like this. He could get what he wanted by simply taking a step, but he doesn’t take it.

Never ScriptNo distinctive sentence pattern has been discovered for the Never script. However, people with a Never script often talk about negative script content in a repetitive, broken record manner. They tell you their troubles one day, then next day they tell them again as if the first time hadn’t happened.
