Our family grew up in the warm embrace of our mother’scontinuous gift of unconditional love. Along with herhusband Paul, she raised the most beautiful andincredibly talented children – Adam (Sheryl), Shelley(David) and Karen (Vern). With her unfailing belief inour abilities, we pursued our dreams.

She mentored us in the importance of giving back to thecommunity through her volunteer work in gymnastics,Brownies and Girl Guides, the Sexual Assault Centre andher favourite and most recent work with the Mendel ArtGallery in Saskatoon. She loved the outdoors and reveledin fishing, canoeing, trailering, cross country skiing andwalking in the woods at Anglin Lake. She was caring tofamily and friends and friendly to total strangers she meton her daily walks along the Meewasin Trail.

After Adam became somewhat independent shereturned to work in retail at Sears Canada.

After 56 years of marriage, Paul will miss his lifelonggolf partner and enthusiastic travel companion to BritishColumbia, Quebec, Mexico, Slovakia and elsewhere.

The photos of these travels and family events wereplastered on Mom’s fridge. But the pride of her displaywere the photos her grandchildren Marik (10) and Lucas(7). Their accomplishments in school and sports wereunrelenting sources of conversation. They will grow uphearing the whisper of her spirit in the trees around theirhome in Nelson, BC.

Irene grew up on a farm near Calder, Saskatchewan.She was predeceased by her parents, Katherine (Bobyk)and John Olineck; and her brothers Bill (Anne), Peter(Lydia) and Jim.

Lutzko , Nettie (Murray) Ireland, and Alice Zubrecki will notbe humming quite as loudly with her passing. She alsoleaves her youngest brother Arnold (Jeanette) Olineck.

Throughout her three and a half year cancer journey,Mom was compassionately supported by her oncologyteam – Dr. Sami and Nurse Janice Belous, and laterby the palliative care team at St. Paul’s Hospital – her“amazon girls.”

Volunteer Income ax Program (CVIP) is celebrat-ng 45 years o helping individuals prepare their incomeax and benet returns. CVIP volunteers help complete

more than hal a million tax returns every year or mod-est income Canadians and those on xed incomes, whosenancial situation is unchanged year to year.

We are once again seeking community organizations tohost tax preparation clinics in communities throughoutBritish Columbia. o volunteer, individuals must be will-ng to work with their local community organization and

have a basic understanding o income tax. Communityorganizations and their volunteers have offered ree taxpreparation clinics in various locations including, schools,

c urc es, seniors resi ences an nursing omes. Com-munity organizations nd the CVIP an excellent way toreach out to seniors, students and newcomers to Canada,by helping to complete tax returns or those with modestincomes and simple tax situations.

Auditions for Oxygen Art Centre’s 2nd Annual YouthArts Festival alent Slam take place on Saturday, January23 from 2 - 5 pm at the Capitol Teatre in Nelson. Anyoneaged 15 - 29 and performing in any discipline is welcome to

audition for a spot in this showcase of the Kootenay’s bestyoung artists. Singing, dancing, music, acting, comedy,performance art, poetry and spoken word, even short filmand animations can be submitted for selection. Selectedtalent will receive one-on-one mentorship with profes-sional artists Lucas Myers, Bessie Wapp or Slava Doval, todevelop their acts for the big night! Oxygen Art Centre’s Youth Arts Festival aims to encour-age youth to pursue their artistic talents and interests andthose o their peers in a proessional and meaningul way,

Te 1st annual estivalwas a smashing success, providing young Kootenay art-ists with a proessional show and auditions to try out orand an opportunity or some to hone their acts with sea-soned proessionals in the community.

Over 200 people filled the Capitol Teatre for the firstalent Slam and it was an inspiring and very heart feltevent with many original acts performed for the first timein a professional context. Te Back Stage Lounge pro-

vided a creative hang out space for anyone aged 15 - 29

and hosted a collaborative drawing project and an openmic that morphed into a open jam session with a dozenmusicians including a drummer, several saxophonist, key-boardists, vocalists and the like. Building on this program-ming the 2nd Annual Youth Arts Festival will take placeFebruary 13 and 14, 2016, and will include workshops andprofessional development opportunities in the arts.
