NCAS provides partnering schools with K-12 classroom visits to assist with lessons and experiments relevant to STEM and consultations with science coordinators to assist with program development. Colour of Weather, Inc. Colour of Weather (abbreviated as CoWx) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting environmental literacy, diversity and inclusion in scientific and technical endeavors through community service and other activities that provide access to information, knowledge, technical consultation and research. It seeks to empower underserved communities in America and in developing countries, through the exchange of information on science and the environment. Community Science Fests Community Science Fests is a mobile learning environment offering a unique experience consisting of hands-on experiments and activities in science and technology for students in the District of Columbia. Facility Tours Students participate in tours at various NCAS facilities at host’s institutions across the United States. K-12 Objectives & Activities NCAS uses its established rubric to enhance access to STEM knowledge for K-12 students to provide mentoring and motivation and to provide some opportunities for professional development. K-12 Teacher Training & Workshops NCAS works with the local public school systems within the jurisdictions of partner institutions to offer specialized curriculum to enhance teacher preparation in order for students to gain appreciation of scientific principles involved in applied physical sciences. Partnerships NCAS currently partners with the TRIO/Upward Bound program at Howard University and at the University of Texas, El Paso. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate of high school students, low-income, and first-generation college-goers, complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from postsecondary institutions. UPRM K-12 Student Workshops NCAS PIs conduct workshops to K-12 students within the Puerto Rico public schools system in collaboration UPRM Sea Grant College Program to promote ocean literacy and the sustainable and wise use of marine resources. CAREERS Weather Camps The CAREERS Weather Camps is a free one or two-week summer camp that expands the students’ knowledge of atmospheric sciences.
