When did Wilsons Prom become a National Park?
Wilsons Prom became a National Park in 1898. It was discovered by Mr George Bass and he called it Furneauxs Land as he thought it was the same land Captain Furneaux discovered. It wasnt, as his friend Mr Matthew Flinders told him. They then recommended the name Wilsons Prom to Governor Hunter in 1789. The name Wilson came from a friend of Mr Flinders.

The Park each year has around 400 000 people visit them through staying overnight and just looking and doing all the things there.

You can find the most southerly stand of Mangrove, the White Mangrove, in Wilsons Prom which are quite commonly found. There are a range of activities you can do at Wilsons Prom, Bush walks on the trails (ranging up from 1 hour to 3 days) Playing on Squeaky Beach (a beach with sand that squeaks) Go to the Lightstation with a Lighthouse and discover its history.

But they tend to get very busy. You even have to enter your name into a ballot, which is like a lottery to get a camping spot!
