Issue 13 May 2018

Saturday 14 April, 2018 was the official opening of the Narangba Youth

Plaza and Skate Park located at the Harris Avenue Sports Grounds.

The first of its kind in Narangba, this great facility is the culmination of

Council working with the community through online surveys and public

consultation after local kids wanted more activities in their local area.

Specially designed, this skate park has elevated banks, split levels,

moguls and ledges that will certainly challenge riders of all ages, and

encourage them to

get outdoors and

get active in their local community.

To help in celebrating the opening, Skate Connection at

North Lakes and the Australian Skateboarding Community

Initiative kindly donated two raffle prizes of $150 each to be

used to put towards a skateboard or scooter. Free ‘Ramp

Up’ sessions from the pros at Australian Skating Community

were given away by Council to 40 lucky kids who went online

and registered.

Esme, 7, from Narangba attended her first Ramp Up session

on the day and helped me officially open the new park

(pictured left).

Council provides free RAMP UP skateboard and scooter sessions across the re-

gion. There are more sessions being held at Narangba over the coming months.

Visit Council's website www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au/rampup to book your spot.

Reserve playground renewal in Samford. The area now

has a new swing, a deck and slide combination unit and an

springer toy, which is still in good condition was relocated.

New trees have been planted to provide future shade and

new gardens created to complete the renewal.

Division 11 Projects

ROADWORK PROJECTS

were recently completed

between Ocean View Road

up to Pacific Vista Court.

The project included improvements to the road

surface to provide better drainage and a smoother

drive

Tilpawai Close

CEDAR CREEK

Road resurfacing works, which included 300m of

repairs to road and pavement, were recently carried

out.

Wights Mountain Road

WIGHTS MOUNTAIN

This recently completed road

rehabilitation project was car-

ried out between Smiths Road

and 249 Wights Mountain

Road. It involved scarification

of the existing road, compac-

tion and shaping of the road to

improve drainage.

NEW FORT FOR DAYBORO RASCALS

For the past 20 years the Dayboro Rascals Community

Playgroup has been an important part of the local area.

In June 2017 the group were successful in gaining a

Council Facility Development Grant. The $10 000

grant was used to assist with purchasing new safe and

age appropriate play equipment for the playgroup.

Congratulations to the committee of the playgroup who

worked tirelessly to deliver this great project.

SAFER PEDESTRIAN CROSSING

IN NARANGBA

Council recently upgraded pathways and installed a

new pedestrian refuge island on Mumford Road,

Narangba (in between Thomas Street and Knights

Road). During the construction, in response to

feedback from the community, adjustments to the

placement and the width of the refuge island were

made. This now provides a safer and more convenient

location for parents and children to cross when walking

to and from Narangba State School.

READY, WEATHER OR NOT

Within Division 11 there are some areas, in particular Mt Glorious, Mt Nebo and Dayboro where communities may find themselves isolated for short periods of time during a weather event.

Get Ready Queensland is a State Government grants program to help communities be more prepared for storm season. Community halls at Dayboro and Mt Glorious have been provided with evacuation centre kits as part of this grant. In addition to these, Council has purchased stretchers and bedding kits to be stored at the halls should they need to be used as evacuation centres during storm season.

DAYBORO ENTRANCE SIGN CONSULTATION The “Welcome to Dayboro” signs have deteriorated over time and have come to their end of life. The sign coming from Samford has recently fallen down and Council has made it temporarily safe. The sign from the Petrie approach has also been the subject of a number of

running repairs. It’s probably time to consider a redesign that will better reflect the character of the Dayboro township and surrounds. I have asked Council to work up a rural style entrance sign which will be designed to fit in with the character of Dayboro. I am after some feedback from the local community on the new style of entrance sign and would welcome your comments. Email me at [email protected] with your thoughts on the images shown.

IT WAS KIDS PLAY

FOR CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY

On 21 February, I

joined the children at

Lead Childcare in

Dayboro to help pick up

litter in a local park for

Clean Up Australia

Day. The kids learned

about how the trucks

collect their recyclable

materials from their

home and from the childcare centre. Lead Childcare are

having great success with their waste minimisation

program. Within the last two years they have been able

to significantly reduce their waste sent to landfill by more

than seven wheelie bins per year, including feeding food

scraps to their chickens and composting onsite. What a

great effort for the environment and also for the next

generation, it will soon be second nature to recycle. The

kids were all very excited to see the big recycling truck,

and some of them even found out what it was like to be

in the driver’s seat. Keep up the great work!

SAMFORD MARKERS GET A FACE LIFT

You may have noticed when

walking around the township,

that the markers for the

Samford Village Heritage

Trail have been given a new

lease on life.

The markers were originally

installed approximately nine

years ago, the 13 markers

located along Main Street

and Station Street have had

their faded plaques replaced

- just in time to celebrate the

Centenary of Samford.
