Advanced Materials Research Laboratory (AMRL)

Clemson University’s Advanced Materials Research Laboratory (AMRL) consolidates nanotechnology, electronic instrument device and laser labs, chemistry labs, and cleanroom space for educational activities and industry research.

CH2M HILL, through its subsidiary IDC Architects, led the team of engineers and lab consultants to create the flexible, cutting-edge academic research space. Leveraging their knowledge of nanotechnology process requirements, our designers and technologists provided innovative design solutions related to electron microscopic sensitivities, isolated independent slabs, acoustic dampening, electronic shielding, vibration analysis, air distribution systems (with 66 lab hoods), cleanroom space, and specialty labs for laser, instrument and draw-tower (fiber optics) research.

The AMRL was awarded LEED® Silver certification and was Clemson’s first LEED certified building. CH2M HILL managed the LEED certification process to meet USGBC requirements.
