Welcome to MySuccess
MySuccess is an early warning tool that is accessed through the course management system Blackboard to
support student academic success at the University of Kansas. Through MySuccess, faculty can inform students
of their academic performance within a course and connect students to appropriate support resources. Features
include:
Raising Early Warning Flags/Kudos– MySuccess enables faculty to inform students of their academic
performance (good or bad) within a course in an efficient manner.
Course Management Tools - Zoom-In (helps manage course by reading Bb grade book) and Attendance (track
course attendance)
Monitoring – Specific individuals and resources can be notified when a student receives a flag notification.
Additionally, reports can be generated by type of flags, departments, class prefixes, and others.
Student Success Network – MySuccess can connect students to academic and support resources.

Advisor Tracking and E-mail Summaries Through MySuccess, advisors have the ability to view flags raised on their advisees at anytime. MySuccess also generates an e-mail to advisors which includes a summary of the flags raised on their advisees.
Email to Student
MySuccess generates an email to student. Emails consist of congratulation or steps/resources for help. Faculty members have the ability to add additional comments to the e-mail notification student’s receive.
Follow Up
Advisors, in consultation with faculty members, follow up with congratulations, concern, and/or suggestions on resources.
Faculty Raise Flag Notification
• General Concern Flag/Unsatisfactory Coursework Flag, etc.
Tracking: When a flag is raised the instructor, student and advisor will be notified.
Follow Up: The student can contact the Academic Advisor and/or the Advisor will be in contact with the student

Getting Started 1. Go to https://courseware.ku.edu/ and sign into Blackboard using your KU Online ID and password.
2. MySuccess button in the Tools area of the My KU tab.
3. If this is your first time accessing MySuccess, click the Close button.
MySuccess Menu Options
Home – Selecting Home will take you back to the MySuccess homepage.
Students - Selecting Students will take you to an area to manage the students connected to you through MySuccess. In
this section, you will be able to send notifications, track students, utilize the Zoom In and/or Attendance feature.
Success Network – Selecting Success Network will give you a list of campus resources/services. Any resource/service
listed in this area can be connected to a specific course.
Services – Selecting Services will take you to the list of services provided in the MySuccess network at the University of
Kansas.

Home
Profile Menu
Email Notifications 1. Go to Profile. Then choose Email Notifications.
2. Under Tracking Item Notifications, set
your preferences for if/when you want
to be notified of flags.
3. Click the Save button.
You can change your email notifications settings at any time.
Recent changes are recent flags raised on students you have a relationship with or appointments made on your calendar.

On this screen, view your advisees , or other students connected to you in a specific role.
Select connection (role or course section) and appropriate term. Select to view student
profile.

Adding Kudos or Raising Flags There are three ways in which faculty can add a kudo or raise a flag on the students enrolled in their courses:
1. Viewing the class roster through MySuccess
2. Viewing the students MySuccess Profile
3. Zoom In Feature
Once a kudo/flag is raised, the student will receive an email notification. Notifications are specific for the item being
raised.
Select connection (role or specific course section).
Sort flags by clicking on the various columns.
Select appropriate term and other search preferences.
Search for student by name.

Adding Kudos or
Flags –Menu
When you create a kudo/flag through the roster, student profile page or Zoom In feature – you will get a drop down box. Select the appropriate kudo/flag, add comment (optional), select course context, and hit save. Please Note: Comments are required when raising a General Concern Flag.
Select course in which the kudo is being created.
Comment box – you can add comments to go with the notification emailed to the student.
Select kudo
Once you click save, an email notification will be sent to the student.
Comments are seen by the student on their MySuccess homepage and included in the e-mail notification.

Student Profile View
Step 1 – Select appropriate connection and term
Step 2- Select the box of the student who is receiving the flag. You can check multiple students if they are all receiving the same flag.
You can get to this screen by selecting Students from the MySuccess menu and then My Students . You will have to select your connection (course, role, etc.) and term.
Step 3 - Select Add Kudo or Raise Flag and the menu will appear. Step 4 – Select the appropriate kudo/flag from the menu and click save.

Zoom In Tool
After Clicking Students click the Zoom In tab.
Step 1: Click on Setup Section
For each grade book item you can determine what you consider to be a Poor, OK or Good grade
Step 2: Enter all values as percentages
Step 3a: Display determines which grades should be seen in your Zoom In dashboard Step 3b: Active determines which
grades should be calculated into the course average

Adding Columns in the Blackboard Grade Center Note: a number of Blackboard tools automatically create a
column in the Grade Center or provide the option of
creating a column in the Grade Center.
1. Access the appropriate Blackboard course.
2. Click on Grade Center in the Control Panel, and
then select Full Grade Center.
3. Click the Create Column button.
4. Enter the appropriate
information and click the
Submit button.

Clearing Flags
1. Select the icon
next to the students
name or flag name
(depending on the
screen you are
viewing)
2. Select Clear Flag from
the menu that
appears.
3. Enter comments and then click the
Submit button.
Email Digests You are able to select when you want to receive
your email digest in the Email Notifications are of your MySuccess Profile.
The digest contains up to
100 flags.

Progress Surveys You will receive an email from the MySuccess system when it is time for you to complete a progress survey.
There will be a link in the message that will allow you to login to MySuccess and take you directly to this screen.
There will also be a link that is available to you, the next time that you access to MySuccess.

You will receive a survey for each class they are teaching that is utilizing MySuccess. The course name that you are
completing the survey for will be listed below the instructions (Survey: Starfish Test Course 22 (STAR888122) and their
roster of students will appear.
1. Click on the box for the kudo or flag that you want to raise per student.
2. If you do not want to raise a kudo or flag, simply leave the check defaulted to No Concern.
3. You can save a draft of their survey if you want to return to it later, or you can click Submit. By clicking Submit you
are initiating flags on all students they have been identified in the survey.
4. If you want to include any comments, click on the icon next to the student’s name.
