Reviews By My Subscribers

“These 12 most forgotten habits are such great reminders to me in my approach to

good health! They are easy to do, realistic to apply and definitely a good start to my

journey towards pink health. Some are areas that I’ve forgotten while others are useful

tips that I can see myself adopting!

I will recommend this book to all who seek a happier and healthier body and mind. And

really, as the author rightfully puts in, it’s not as difficult as what many of us think!”

Lim Jora / 11 May 2012

“I was introduced to this e-book by a friend who chanced upon it. Initially, I thought it’s

just one of those general health guides until I started to browse through it and to my

surprise, I actually found it to be really a good read, with simple insights and useful tips

that can easily be applied.

I am particularly inspired by the last few habits on a healthy mindset. Contrary to most

books where they talked about the importance of having a positive mindset, this book

shares useful advice on how to achieve this mindset instead and the author made it so

matter of fact that it’s not difficult to do so, if we believe in it. I suppose they may not be

something new for some but certainly something for me to reflect upon.

Thank you thin thin and I wish you all the best and look forward to read more of your

future newsletters and books!”

About the Author

Hi, I’m thin thin and I’m the founder of MyHealthyLifestyleHabits.com. I’m sure you must

be wondering right now what kind of name is this? Well, I was given this name after

many comments on how I remain relatively slim despite my healthy appetite and many

endless meals daily. Is it genetic? Well, perhaps… but my 3 brothers are on the heavier

side so I would like to think that it’s due to the lifestyle that I adopt that made me the

way I am. After all, people always say “you are what you eat”!

My Dearest Mummy and Brothers…

First of all, congratulations on downloading this e-book. Yes, they have changed my life

and I am sure it will too for you! The beauty of this e-book is that it’s no rocket science

and absolutely do-able if you put your heart to it.

How these 12 Habits Changed My Life?

I have been an active boy since young; from badminton to tree climbing to swimming

against the river current, I enjoyed them all. As I grew, the “sportsman” in me continues

but I was exposed to the more appropriate exercises and routine that best fit my

physique and lifestyle. For me, it’s not just about exercising for the sake of exercising

but also enjoying the particular sport that I took up.

I also started to think deeper into my diet and mental well-being after seeing my family

and friends getting ill at such young age. I have a family history of heart problems and

all of us in the family have high cholesterol level. When I did my test and saw my

cholesterol level, I was shocked and thought that there’s nothing I can do since it’s

genetic. My doctor told me to try reviewing my diet and do a follow-up test 3 months

later. If my cholesterol level was not reduced, I will have to take medication for life! This

is definitely not the kind of lifestyle I see myself in so I took his advice and researched

into foods that will reduce cholesterol level.

To my pleasant surprise, my cholesterol level went down by 100mg/dL and I was not

required to take any medication at all!

It was through episodes like this that reminded me to eat what’s best for me and I

rediscover the magic of ginger, garlic and oat. 3 very basic food items that are easily

accessible and yet, they are so powerful. You will read more in my e-book…

Page 7: My Healthy Lifestyle Habits

Another great habit that I picked up is reading and I don’t mean novels here. I was

introduced to a varied collection of good books that have helped me tremendously in my

business, my personal perspective and the way I handle relationships. I begin to be less

self-centred and see things in a more objective and genuinely positive manner. I learnt

to deal with problems instead of avoiding them and it has helped to remove mental

clutter and keep a clear mind for me. This clear mind of mine has enabled me to take on

more fulfilling roles in life and I’m very thankful for them.

But well, I’m still learning everyday and that is why it motivates me to start this humble

platform to share with like-minded individuals on not just living, but living it absolutely

well!

Take some time to read and I hope they served as gentle reminders to you and your

loved ones. Let’s not take the simple things for granted and staying healthy is not

difficult after all.

Now, let’s enjoy reading this as much as I enjoy putting them together for you.

Cheers To Great Living!

Habit #1: I learnt to choose what I eat instead of controlling the quantity

I am often one of the last person left on the dining table and many a times, my family

and friends will comment on how much I can actually eat! Yes, it’s true; I enjoy food, I

eat many meals but yet, my BMI is still on the healthy side.

Perhaps I have a good metabolism system but my secret lies in choosing what I eat

instead of eating lesser.

Reducing the quantity of the food that we consume is practically the primary advice

offered by the majority of diets if we like to maintain or control our body weight. If we just

focus too much on eating less and lesser each time just because we want to lose

weight, it will not be effective in the long term as this will affect our body growth and

cause us to miss out on the nutrition that we need. Of course the quantity will make

some difference to our size but the major change that should be considered would be

still the food choices we opted.

The type of foods that we consume is far more important than the quantity for our health

and weight. Nearly 800 calories out of the total amount of 2000 calories per day comes

from fats and oils.

If we take a look at where the animal fat comes from, we will easily understand why will

we gain weight so quickly. Every animal has a fat storage area that is used in numerous

food recipes. Therefore, we practically consume the fats that were stored by the animal.

Our metabolism burns off only a part of these fats, leaving the rest to reach our fat

tissues.

Some people believe that by eating only chicken, lean beef or fish meat, they will be

able to prevent fat storage, but this is not necessarily true. We can say that these types

of meat contain fewer calories compared to pork or beef, but this does not mean that

they do not contain calories at all!

Page 9: My Healthy Lifestyle Habits

© 2012-2013 thin thin / founder http://MyHealthyLifestyleHabits.com

In conclusion, when we are talking exclusively about meat, we are talking about

important amount of calories, regardless of the source. A very low-fat food would be the

potato, which contains important amounts of carbohydrates and minerals. However,

when you mix the potato with vegetable oils, this will increase the amount of calories as

well. While a baked potato contains nearly 100 calories, french fries contain

approximately 3 times more. So if we are thinking about replacing meats with foods rich

in vegetable oils, think again!

Now in order to take control of our weight and live a healthy life, we should consider a

plant-based nutrient rich diet. Following a diet that is based mostly on greens,

vegetables, fruits, beans and whole grains will help us to eliminate all high fat dairy

products from the menu and enjoy a natural and healthier lifestyle. Once we start eating

these nutrient rich products, we will not want to go back to the junk food again!

Habit #2: I learnt to adopt my blood group diet

Do you know your blood group? I knew mine only when I volunteered for a blood

donation exercise. I then begin to wonder if our blood type has any bearing on our

health predisposition and started researching on it.

I found that our predisposition toward some of the most dangerous diseases can be

determined by our blood group. In addition, the type of biochemistry on which our

digestive system is running can also be discovered through our blood group. You may

be able to consume some sorts of ingredients without any problems, while other

individuals may suffer from bloating, indigestion or diarrhea after consuming the exact

type of ingredients or food!

By eating the right food according to your blood group not only minimizes health issues

but also enable your body to absorb and maximize the nutrition from the food. These

Page 10: My Healthy Lifestyle Habits

nutrients are then incorporated well into our body system and eventually lead us to a

happier body!

A popular doctor believes that the secret of a diet based on the blood group of an

individual is the reaction of the blood to lectins - a group of proteins present in some

particular foods. The doctor affirms the fact that the negative interactions of these

lectins with the blood can cause numerous diseases. Each blood group has evolved

over the years and being influenced by the environmental conditions in which people

lived in a particular period. So the interesting question here is have we ever asked

ourselves “Are we eating RIGHT on each meal?” or just merely filling up our stomach?

The main blood groups and what should we know about them:

Blood Type O

The most resistant digestive system belongs to individuals with Blood Type O. These

individuals eat meat on a regular basis. Besides the protein they ingest from the meat,

Blood Type O individuals also need vegetables and fruits to sustain a good health.

The negative aspect consists on the fact that they cannot digest carbohydrates properly.

Moreover, the dairy products need to be rarely consumed, while following a high animal

protein and low carbohydrate diet.

Blood Type A

This group of people is composed of farmers and grain gatherers since the Blood Type

A person has evolved from the hunter to the agrarian. Their digestive system is really

Page 11: My Healthy Lifestyle Habits

© 2012-2013 thin thin / founder http://MyHealthyLifestyleHabits.com

fragile. Apart from the fact that they do not tolerate animal protein efficiently, they should

also stay away from lactose and stick to a vegetarian diet.

Legumes, fruits, veggies and whole grains are great foods for Blood Type A people,

who should avoid any animal protein and dairy products consumption. Due to their high-

quality vegetable protein, Tofu and Hawaiian Spirulina are two great foods for

individuals with this type of blood.

Blood Type B

Even though there are some exceptions that should be avoided, people with Blood Type

B can eat practically anything due to their tolerant digestive system. Some of the foods

that they should avoid are: corn, buckwheat, lentils, peanuts and sesame seeds, but

they will do great with all the other types of food.

Blood Type AB

People with Blood Type AB practically combine the characteristics of those with Type A,

with the characteristics of those with Type B, regardless if they are negative or positive.

Apart from tomatoes, people with Type AB can respect the indication provided for Type

A and Type B.

So next time when you are preparing or choosing the food for your meal, do spend a

little time and plan on what are good and will benefit you most according to your blood

type and you will be eating your way to great health!

Habit #3: I learnt to take as much vitamin B as I do of vitamin C

I take an average of 3 types of supplements daily and none included vitamin B until I

chanced upon an article that highlights the powerful benefits of vitamin B! Like most

people, I thought that vitamin C is the most important and it’s good enough if I consume

it diligently.

In fact, our body cannot afford and function efficiently if we are lacking vitamin B. I found

myself more resilient and free from illnesses after I started to consume vitamin B. In

addition, I was a lot more energetic and alert throughout the day and feel less lethargic.

In addition to supplements, I start taking in more vitamins from various means such as

from healthy and balanced meals on a regular basis. Since then, I noticed a great

change and I am now healthier, more energetic and less likely to fall sick!

For hundreds of years people have been consuming vitamins in order to maintain their

health. The most diverse type of vitamins on the market is type B. The scientists have

discovered this important vitamin simply by combining some chemicals together.

Variations such as B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9 and B12 have been created after the

scientists have recognized the complexity of the vitamin B.

A healthier and cleaner skin, an increased metabolism and a better immune system are

just some of the common main benefits that the vitamin B family can provide for our

body. Moreover, stressed or depressed people can also improve their state with the

help of this vitamin! Vitamin B also plays a very important role in cell metabolism. For

example, vitamin B1 has some positive effects upon our nervous system and our

psychological state. This popular vitamin can also improve our intellectual performance

in a considerable way. Besides, vitamin B1 also plays an important role in carbohydrate

metabolism and it is absolutely necessary for the proper functionality of the nervous

system. This vitamin brings a very important contribution in maintaining smooth muscle

tone. By interfering in many important biochemical reactions within the carbohydrate

metabolism, we can say that it acts like a coenzyme!

Page 13: My Healthy Lifestyle Habits

© 2012-2013 thin thin / founder http://MyHealthyLifestyleHabits.com

Some of the common symptoms such as diarrhea, anemia, weight loss, depression,

chronic fatigue, etc are usually due to deficient in vitamin B. In fact, studies have shown

another member of the Vitamin B family- B12 is so vital to infant and if B12 deficiency in

infants and if they are not detected and treated earlier and properly, it can lead to

severe and permanent damage to the nervous system!

By looking at how vital and critical Vitamin B to our body, it has to be included to be one

of the most essential vitamins and we should search for ways to include these vitamins

in our every day meals if we like to achieve a better healthy living!

Habit #4: I learnt to eat more ginger, garlic & oat. I am the LIVING proof!

You will probably wonder why I choose to share about these 3 seemingly unrelated and

unattractive food items? Well, that’s because I always hear people saying that eating

healthy is expensive and inconvenient so I would like to share that you need not always

go for fancy organic, fat-free, less sweet, less salt type of food items to enjoy a healthy

diet!

These 3 items have helped me personally in bringing down my cholesterol level and

alleviating pain and discomfort. Read about them, try them and enjoy the perks that they

bring!

Ginger

Never undermine the benefits of this simple food! There’s a long list but I’m just going to

share with you the 3 most useful health benefits that I have benefited from ginger:

Stomach Disorders – Ginger efficiently cure stomach disorders. When I am having gas,

motion sickness, nausea or diarrhea, the first saver come to my mind is ginger! By just

drinking a cup of tea or warm water with ginger juice or slice in it, my problems will

easily be control or gone instantly!

Page 14: My Healthy Lifestyle Habits

© 2012-2013 thin thin / founder http://MyHealthyLifestyleHabits.com

Cough & Throat Discomfort - Another popular remedy is to treat cough; individuals that

experience respiratory tract infections and bronchitis can also benefit from the important

qualities included by ginger. This is especially effective when you drink it with your tea

or warm water before bed and early morning!

Muscle Pain – Ginger contains inflammatory properties and thus, it helps to relieve

tense and sore muscle. I find this very useful as I exercise a lot and this has proven to

be a consistent aid for me!

I personally recommend and find the best way of extracting the benefits of Ginger is just

simply adding some ginger juice or slices to your tea or hot water and I find this is an

extremely economical yet effective way of treating some of our daily living challenges!

Garlic

Garlic, Latin name Allium sativum, belongs to the onion family Alliaceae including

shallots, and leek. Garlic has been used throughout recorded history for both medicinal

and culinary purposes. In fact, it has became one of the most useful and versatile items

in kitchen and its all time favorite for chefs!

Garlic is another of my all time favorite item! It’s not only tasty but FULL of health

benefits! We all use garlic in our recipes for its tasty and healthy benefits, but few know

of the complexity of important compounds included in this traditional plant. Today,

garlic is a widely recognized health enhancing supplement. Garlic promotes the well-

being of the heart and immune systems with antioxidant properties and helps maintain

healthy blood circulation. One of garlic's most potent health benefits includes the ability

to enhance the body's immune cell activity and fight off all gems and bacteria!

The active component in garlic is the sulfur compound called allicin. Allicin is the

chemical produced when garlic is chopped, chewed, or bruised. Allicin is quite powerful

as an antibiotic and a potent agent that helps the body to inhibit the ability of germs to

grow and reproduce. In fact, it's said that 1 milligram of allicin has a potency of 15

Page 15: My Healthy Lifestyle Habits

standard units of penicillin. There are countless studies published around the world that

confirm garlic can reduce cholesterol. Besides, most recent studies shown that Garlic is

known to stimulate T-lymphocyte and macrophage action, promote interleukin-1 levels,

and support natural killer cells. Strong activity of these key cells promotes healthy

immune system function, and strengthens the body's defenses towards Heart Related

problems.

Oats

Although this may seem like a boring food, I must say it has amazing benefits that have

really benefitted me.

Cultivated especially for its seed, oat is a common species of cereal grain. People

usually consume oats in the form of oatmeal and rolled oats because it is high in fiber.

Apart from the fact that it is really low in fat, oats can be very useful for those who want

to follow a carbohydrate and protein diet and achieve a healthy, strong and beautiful

body!

Another key benefit is that it lowers cholesterol and I had a big dip in my level of

cholesterol after consuming it regularly for just 3 short months! People with heart

problems should consume oats regularly too because they contain special fiber that can

reduce LDL, called beta-glucans. Moreover, important quantities like magnesium,

calcium, phosphorous, selenium, magnesium and zinc can also be found in oats.

I love my oat and oat bran with unsweetened soya milk in the morning. It’s tasty, it fills

my stomach and I know it is working really hard inside my body to maintain a healthy

cholesterol level.

Page 16: My Healthy Lifestyle Habits

Habit #5: I learnt to brisk walk instead of run

Once, my doctor asked what type of exercises I do and he was surprised when I

mentioned brisk walk as one of it as he was expecting me to say running instead. Many

a times, people associate walking with the more senior folks and feel that running is

then the true exercise. Don’t be mistaken….

While running can bring about some heart problems and degenerate your knee in the

long run, walking is totally safe and a healthy way to use the same amount of energy.

The studies were performed on a number of runners and a different number of walkers.

What was really surprising to discover is that, even though they have consumed the

same amount of energy, those who have brisk walked in the study have experienced

greater health benefits and encounter minimum sport related injuries.

It took six years for the scientists to observe all of the effects that occur on individuals

who were aged 18 to 80. The risk of heart disease was reduced by 9.3% on individuals

who have walked, compared to only 4.5% on those who ran.

The leader of the study, namely Dr. Paul Williams, stated the following:

"Walking and running provide an ideal test of the health benefits of moderate-intensity

walking and vigorous-intensity running because they involve the same muscle groups

and the same activities performed at different intensities."

"The more the runners ran, and the walkers walked, the better off they were in health

benefits. If the amount of energy expended was the same between the two groups, then

the health benefits were comparable.

Walking 60 to 90 minutes each day, enough to cover a five-mile round trip, will burn

approximately 500 calories. This will result in a one-pound weight loss each week. In

addition, walking strengthens the large muscles of the abdomen and legs, resulting in

greater bone and joint health. Because of this overall strengthening, walkers experience

Page 17: My Healthy Lifestyle Habits

© 2012-2013 thin thin / founder http://MyHealthyLifestyleHabits.com

less compression of the lower back and avoid this common source of chronic

inflammation.

Walking outdoors in the mid-morning sun holds another gift -- the ability to absorb

vitamin D. The body needs this essential nutrient to transport calcium into the bones.

This is necessary to prevent osteoporosis, a weakening of the bones, but it also lowers

the chance of breast and colon cancer. Walking outdoors has an added psychological

benefit. While exercise raises the level of the neurotransmitters that help you register

pleasure and fight off depression, sunlight exposure prevents seasonal affective

disorder!

Lets start this simple yet benefits packed exercise soon and you are one step closer to

the better health!

Habit #6: I learnt to cool down as much as I warm up after each work-out

As simple as it sounds, I can confidently say that cooling down is the most forgotten part

of the exercise for most people! While most of us spent time warming up our bodies and

preparing it for the work-out, we are often so exhausted post work-out that we take the

cooling down for granted.

Some exercises may considerably increase our heart rate, so a cool down session is

definitely a MUST! MUST! Cooling down our body after exercise reduces our heart rate

and will lead our mind and body back to our regular state and momentum and in return,

it will minimize a lot of unnecessary sports injuries.

I enjoy high impact sports such as tennis and competitive badminton. I always

encounter sore muscles and aching after my exercise and sometimes to the extent that

my mind is over active and could not sleep at all at night! After much research, I

realized it was due to the lack of cooling down after my intensive exercise! My doctor

Page 18: My Healthy Lifestyle Habits

© 2012-2013 thin thin / founder http://MyHealthyLifestyleHabits.com

has also warned me of fatigue and possible heart attack if I were to skip the cooling

down session.

Remember, exercising is meant to bring positive effects to our health so let’s not take

the short-cut and complete the activity to enjoy maximum benefits. After all, how much

time can a cool down session take right? I take only 5 minutes

Habit #7: I learnt to take my water intake and sleep seriously

How many glasses of water do you drink a day? How many hours of sleep do you get a

day? Is it a 8-8 for you? If it is, congratulations! Because you are one of the very few

people who do so… We must have heard this since young but yet and again, how many

of us actually follow?

We need water to function and the lack of it means that we are not functioning at our

optimal. While we get water from most food and beverage, it is still the fresh, plain water

that is the best and healthiest for us. It is the most natural cleanser for our organs and

digestive system. Being hydrated is crucial for the brain as well as for helping to flush

toxins out through the skin (perspiration) and urine. Besides, water plays an important

role in respiration, digestion, elimination, maintaining temperature (homeostasis) and

metabolism.

For me, I always have a bottle of water with me before I sleep and that is the first thing I

consume when I wake up every day. Out of sight, out of mind so keep it by your side

and it will always be on your mind! On days that I allow my hectic schedule to take over

my health, I can feel the difference quite immediately so don’t think that drinking little

water is fine cos it’s definitely not even though you don’t feel the effects now!

Dehydration can lead to kidney diseases, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome and

even joint pain.

Page 19: My Healthy Lifestyle Habits

© 2012-2013 thin thin / founder http://MyHealthyLifestyleHabits.com

The same goes for sleeping! Most of us simply ignore this core fundamental and think

that we can always repay the lack of sleep during weekends or when we go for

holidays! The truth is, there is no such thing as sleep debt, you cannot repay later.

Do you know that our body manages and requires sleep in much the same way that it

regulates the need for eating, drinking, and breathing?

Many of us try to sleep as little as possible. There are so many things that seem more

interesting or important than getting a few more hours of sleep, but just as exercise and

nutrition are essential for optimal health and happiness, so is sleep. The quality of your

sleep directly affects the quality of your waking life, including your mental sharpness,

productivity, emotional balance, creativity, physical vitality, and even your weight. No

other activity delivers so many benefits with so little effort! So let’s change this mentality

and start taking your sleep seriously and you will discover you will have much more to

offer in life!

Habit #8: I learnt that dental health is as important as other health issues

I am sure that when it comes to brushing teeth, many of us take it as just another daily

hygiene routine but we don’t realize that it’s so crucial that it will cause us dozens of

other health issues if our dental care is being neglected!

I have always thought that I keep a healthy dental regime with brushing twice a day and

regular visits to the dentist. Until one day, I found out that my gums are actually

bleeding and I constantly have bad breath despite after cleaning. Then I discover that I

had periodontitis (gum infection) and this requires intensive cleaning for an extended

period of time.

Throughout the process of getting it treated, I was educated on how this gum infection

has other implications of my health and started to take an even more conscious effort to

get it well. I also remembered that my mum was advised to have a thorough cleaning

Page 20: My Healthy Lifestyle Habits

© 2012-2013 thin thin / founder http://MyHealthyLifestyleHabits.com

session with the dentist prior one of her surgery as oral health has an impact on the

infection control.

“People don’t realize that dental disease can cause serious illness,” said Dr. Irvin

Silverstein, a dentist at the University of California at San Diego. “The problems are not

just cosmetic. Many people die from dental disease.”

A lot of folks know that bad dental hygiene can cause gum problems, cavities, and other

oral infections. However, what they do not know is that it can also affect the other parts

of the human body. Below are just some of the problems you might be facing if one

lacks of proper dental care:

1. Heart Diseases: People suffering from periodontal diseases are twice as likely to

develop arterial narrowing and heart ailments since the bacteria can enter the

gums. Bacteria contain a clot-promoting protein, which may clog the arteries,

causing an increased risk of cardiac problems.

2. Respiratory Issues: Bacteria owing to periodontal disease may travel through

blood to the lungs and aggravate respiratory problems especially in patients who

have already been diagnosed with respiratory conditions. The person might have

increased risks of acute bronchitis and pneumonia.

3. Diabetes: About a majority of adults who have been diagnosed with diabetes

have advanced conditions that lead to loss of teeth. This happens because

patients suffering from diabetes are more likely to contract infections. Diabetes

makes you likely to face gum risks as well as develop further diabetic

complications.

4. Infertility Issues: Why some women just cant conceive? It has been established

by scientific research that gum diseases can increase the time required for a

woman to get pregnant. The study has seen that these women took at least 7

Page 21: My Healthy Lifestyle Habits

© 2012-2013 thin thin / founder http://MyHealthyLifestyleHabits.com

months to conceive, as opposed to their peers who took 5 months without gum

disease.

5. Cancer: Men suffering from gum disease were about half as likely to develop

kidney cancer, pancreatic cancer and blood cancers.

So boys and girls, think twice and good dental care is not just a cosmetic routine… it is

part of holistic care!

Habit #9: I learnt to understand and accept that everything happens for a reason

I have finally come to the conclusion that everything happens for a reason and we

should accept things the way they are. When certain challenging encounters happen,

most people will be reacting with negative responses such as “why did it happen to me”,

“I am in deep trouble”, “I cannot handle that”, etc.

However, have we ever asked ourselves will that encounter change or become better

with our negative responses or complaints? The answer is NO! When something

unpleasant has happened and we can’t turn back the clock, we just need to let it go and

come to terms with it. After all, time will heal and when you look back one day, you will

definitely understand and appreciate that things have happened for a reason.

We must look at it as a learning experience and stay calm and positive and should think

of constructive ways to tackle it instead of reacting or responding it with complaints! By

accepting the situation and handle it positively and tactfully will not only make things

easier to be tackled but it will help us to develop a better, clearer and healthy mind.

Many of the experiences that you will encounter in your life will influence not only your

thought patterns, but your personality as well, so never regard a situation or a particular

feeling as being permanent or bad too early! Sometimes you just never know whatever

just happened might seem bad to you but it might turn out to be a blessing to you!

Accepting all of the things that come into our lives is something that we all must learn to

accept and receive it with a positive and open mind.

We need to approach every experience with a positive mindset, regardless of the final

outcome. We should learn to accept every change that occurs in our life and view them

in a positive perspective, even though some of them may bring us suffering or other

negative emotions for the moment.

We can view any situation in our life from two different perspectives. The first one will be

to accept it with a peaceful state a mind and see the positive outcome, while the second

one would be to be miserable and fight against the universe. You can maintain your

inner peace and happiness when you accept things as they come, regardless if we are

talking about a severe loss, a sudden change or a missed opportunity.

In order to move from feeling happy to being happy, you need to transform the

momentary happiness into long-lasting happiness, which can be possible only through

acceptance. There are some particular moments in life when you need to persist and

other moments when you need to accept, so you must learn to distinguish those

moments!

By creating a list of all possible explanations behind your experiences, you will be able

to build your acceptance much easier. Every time you help somebody or take time to

listen to a person’s problems, you practically fulfill a purpose. You will be able to

embrace every challenge far easier if you acknowledge the lesson behind it. You will

be able to lead a happy and healthy life when your mind is in peace.

Habit #10: I learnt that it is ok to have differing perspectives, just don’t impose

Probably all of us have engaged in contradictory discussions in which we were

convinced that we are always right. Our perspective is responsible for what we believe

Page 23: My Healthy Lifestyle Habits

to be right or wrong, so we need to analyze the matter of having different perspectives

and views when it comes to dealing with others.

In order to find greater solutions to a problem, we need to view things from different

perspectives. Everybody sees things in a different way. We all have created our

personal perspectives from past experiences, beliefs, motivations and concepts that we

have regarded as being true. However, if they are true for us, it does not mean that they

are true for everybody else.

Sometimes, in order for us to judge things closer to their real meanings, we need to sum

up all of the perspectives and then work to establish a best and possible solution. Many

people believe that by looking through or agreeing to the other person’s perspective,

they will probably lose their argument or get a disadvantage. However, this can be quite

useful if you want to obtain a better understanding of the situation, both through your

eyes and the other person’s eyes.

Therefore, if we want to find the most ideal solution for any given problem, and prevent

any kind of compromises, we are advisable to include the other person’s perspective in

our way of thinking. By carefully listening to what the other person has to say and trying

to see what he or she sees, we will be able to perform a practice called empathetic

listening. This will allow us to add another viewpoint to our thought pattern without

losing our own perspective.

You may find this quite useful since empathetic listening may correct your viewpoint in

some situations. Try to put yourself in the other person’s shoes before you decide to

judge him. You will be able to understand their perspective only when you understand

their actions and feel their motives. Being ignorant will only ruin your chances of

extending your perspectives.

However, once you manage to understand the motives powering another person’s

actions, it does not necessary mean that you should agree with them. Finding the best

possible solution to a situation is possible only when you limit your ego and see things

Page 24: My Healthy Lifestyle Habits

through a larger perspective. So let’s remind ourselves be more open minded,

understanding and receptive to other’s opinion and perspectives each time when it

comes to any discussions or meeting and with that, we will discover a lot more and new

perspectives and opportunities in life! Remember, it’s ok to be different, just don’t

impose your views on others and respect differences.

Habit #11: I learnt to think positively even in difficult times

We face issues and challenges in our daily life. Everyone has their own ways of dealing

with them. Some may take it hard and negative while others may choose to deal with it

more light-heartedly and positively. Whichever way we choose, we cannot avoid them

and just have to deal with it eventually!

However, if we know that we are going to face them anyway, why don`t we deal with

them in a positive manner with the right mindset? Challenges will be solved and settled

easier or more effectively when our mind is right, strong and positive! We tend to have

better idea and more ways to solve the issues. Keeping a positive attitude, expecting

the best, striving to do the best and refusing to indulge in self-pity, negative thinking and

worries is the road to a better, happier and healthier life!

We have enough worries daily; “I can’t do that”, “I am worried”, “I don’t think so”, “I don’t

have confidence”, “I am afraid of”, “impossible”, etc. Therefore, we MUST shift these

negative thoughts to the positive ones if we expect things to turn to a better outcome or

result! We need to set up a strong and positive thought pattern for ourselves if we wish

to obtain a better relationship, have more confidence and success in everything we do

in life. Have you heard of “the power of our subconscious mind”?

Negative thoughts bring negative effects! It triggers our mind to a certain extent that

leads us to a destructive way of tackling challenging matters and even cause anxiety

and depression to some individual if its not treated earlier and tactfully! Having a calm

Page 25: My Healthy Lifestyle Habits

and positive mind is extremely important as it plays a vital role when it comes to dealing

with crisis or critical situation. Crisis or problems will never be solved effectively if we

are in panic, behaving negatively, nervous etc.

Here are 5 simple ways to shift to our positive self-talk channel:

Check your state of mind. Start by creating your own positive attitude and

emotions and do not let anyone else ruin your confidence!

Focus on today. Put the past behind you and move forward to a positive future!

See the big picture. Do not waste any time on negative thoughts and ask the

universe to offer you better things in your life!

Release negative expectations. Learn to practice positive expectations and do

not pay attention to what others expect you to do in certain situations!

Be thankful. Once you learn how to be thankful for what you have right now in

your life, you will see that the universe will offer you more reasons to increase

your happiness!

Let’s start applying the above to our daily life and take baby steps to becoming a

genuinely positive person! Remember, positive energy attracts positive people and

happenings!

Habit 12: I learnt to live by my own expectations, not others

Every one of us has a dream or different expectations in life. There are no two persons

that are exactly the same. The way in which we manage our expectations and situations

is critical for our own happiness and daily life.

Attending to each and every situation with an open mind would help us to avoid any

kind of frustration or anger that might occur from a particular situation. Stop expecting

certain things from a person or from a situation and see things exactly as they are.

Once we stop creating any preconceived notions, we will become more peaceful in our

daily life.

We can be easily disappointed or hurt when we create unrealistic expectations of

certain individuals or situations in our life. In order to create some realistic notions of the

people around us, we will need to maintain an accurate awareness of our own realities.

When you expect something from a person, you are constantly applying pressure on

him/her, and this can lead to numerous conflicts in the future. It can be quite difficult to

understand this situation because if you have high expectations of somebody or

something, you may be disappointed.

But when you do not have these expectations, you will probably not try hard enough to

accomplish your goals. Because of this paradoxical issue, many people eventually have

or will transform into perfectionists. This transformation can have negative impacts on

their health.

The best thing that you can do is to create only expectations that you know you can

reach or within your reach. Never give up on your positive aspirations and be confident

in everything that you do. However, never create expectations or aspirations that are

out of your reach!

We need to understand that each of us has our own ways of doing things and at times

we will hear others come and tell us how bad, ridiculous or how their expectations are

different from us! Let me tell you this - that is perfectly okay!

Just remember and put it this way, as long as we have done our very best and put in

our best effort, it is perfectly fine to do it our own way with our own targeted

expectations. We just need to learn to accept and respect their opinions and

perspectives although at times, it can be completely against our perspectives. It can be

extremely stressful and unrealistic if we create unrealistic expectations in a particular

Page 27: My Healthy Lifestyle Habits

situation just because others feel that we should follow the ways they implement things

or expect things to be done in their way. In life, never restrict and force yourself to do

things to fulfill others’ expectations. Rather, do it with your own best possible effort and

expectation and you will see much better achievements and cultivate a long-term

positive mindset and healthy self-confidence.
