Edge! offers opportunities to beat the winter blues, get fit and enjoy the snowTang Soo Do, a traditional Korean Martial Art, provides the method for developing confidence, discipline, focus and fitness for your children. Its primary purpose is on positive and enhanced character development and is the main reason it is perfect for children, youth and teens. Classes are offered through the SKIESUnlimited program and held each Tuesday and Thursday at the Netzaberg Youth Center.

For more information on these activities, contact Parent Central Services office at DSN 476-2760, CIV 09662-83-2760.

Don’t let the winter weather confine your teens to the TV. Get them out, get them active, and let them see what they can accomplish!

Another great opportunityto stay active ...Discover Tang Soo Do

Just because the temperatures drop and the ground is covered in snow doesn’t mean that your teen needs to hibernate the winter away!Child, Youth & School Services Edge! Program offers opportunities to beat the winter blues, get fit and enjoy the snow.

For those who are looking to increase their physical fitness and stay in shape for the spring sports season, the Wintertime Strength and Conditioning program is the way to go. Program runs every Tuesday and Friday afternoon, from 3:30 - 5 p.m., at the Grafenwoehr Physical Fitness Center and provides teens a chance to push themselves and find out how much they can accomplish. Each workout is geared towards the participants’ goals and desired outcomes, and will work them from head to toe. These workouts are fast paced and constantly keep the body guessing what is coming next, and the results are hard to miss. Transportation is provided from the Vilseck High School to the Grafenwoehr PFC immediately after the final bell, with return transportation to the Netzaberg

Youth Center and Vilseck High School. This program is open to youth in grades 8-12, but eighth graders must find their own way to the fitness center. This program is FREE to participate.

Teens with a love of snow and speed need to check out the Edge! Ski and Snowboard program! We will run Thursday trips to the Mehlmeisel ski slope on January 12, February 9 and 23, and are open to Middle School students only. Transportation will be provided from the Netzaberg Youth Center and back, plus a return to the Rose Barracks Outdoor Recreation Center. Each trip will allow for about two hours of time on the slope and basic instruction is provided. Not only that, but equipment rental from the Rose Barracks ODR and the lift ticket is also covered. The cost to each teen is ABSOLUTELY ZERO! Talk about a perfect opportunity for teens to find out if skiing and snowboarding is something they enjoy without breaking the bank.

In addition to these Thursday night trips we will run an amazing overnight trip for

Stay active and fit this winter

youth in grades 8-12 that just so happens to coincide with a school out day! The trip will depart after school on Thursday, January 26, and will take youth down south to Garmisch and the Bavarian Alps. Upon arrival we will link up with our friends from the Garmisch ODR for some night sledding in Austria before getting some much needed rest at Keane’s Lodge. The next day we will rise with the sun, devour breakfast and spend the rest of the day exploring the slopes of the Classic Valley! We will return late Friday night, January 27.

When you knew you were coming to Germany, you probably were excited for a number of reasons, one of them being that Beer is part of German Culture. Bavaria is clearly the leader in beer-making, with half of Germany’s breweries residing here.Read on and find out about two Breweries that are just a short drive away!

AltstadthofVisit Nürnberg’s “Underworld”Constructed beneath the northern part of the old town, following the 1380 decree requiring all restaurants serving beer to brew and store it on location, Castle Hill in Nürnberg hides this 25km web of tunnels and cellars,

vaults and passageways below the Altstadt. These caverns, which remain cool year-round, were all hewn by hand with hammer and chisel out of living rock and have served for centuries for fermentation and maturation of beer.

During WWII, from 1943 on, these cellars were converted into public air raid shelters. All existing ventilation shafts were sealed off as a precaution against gas bombs, and mechanical ventilation systems were installed

instead. A small portion of the maze is still utilized for maturation of beers and liquor of the “Hausbrauerei Altstadthof”, which is visited on the tour. You can take the tour Mondays – Fridays at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. starting at the “Altstadthof” where you can enjoy the beer and regional specialty meals afterwards. Cost is 4,50 €.

For more information visit their website at http://historische-felsengaenge.de/ or stop by the Tourist Information, part of the ”Nürnberg Info” inside the Künstlerhaus (artists house) across the Main Train Station (Hauptbahnhof).

Schloderer BräuAmberg’s secret“the later the evening, the merrier the guests” is the motto at the bar. Located in the heart of the old town of Amberg, Schloderer Bräu is tucked away into the wall across from the City Hall - a great place to visit if you wish to have a small taste of Bavarian native life and culture. It is a cozy brewery where people gather to feast sitting next to the brew kettle, drink at the bar, or gossip outside in the Biergarten. The very popular menu is full of variety, with hearty meals from the region, as well as exotic dishes.

Experience first-hand their delicious, freshly tapped beer which is brewed according to old local tradition. For example the “Hefeweizen” (wheat beer) brewed from the finest raw materials in Germany is refreshing and thirst quenching. The “Schloderer Dunkel” made from a variety of malts, is delicately smoky, dark, and cloudy--this delicious aroma invites you to have a drink. The “Schloderer KULT Helles” is a delicious, bright, un-filtered beer.

You can buy Schloderer beer at the brewery, or in the various beverage stores in Amberg.

For more information you can visit their website atwww.schlodererbraeu.de

on the move! The Auto Skills Center on Main Post Grafenwoehr has made the transition back to it’s original location, after a long-awaited series of “home improvements.” They recently re-opened their doors to the community, offering a brand new, spacious and convenient facility for customers to operate freely and more comfortably. Instead of four lifts, there are now ten, nine of which hold a capacity ranging from 4 - 5 tons, and one with a 6.5 ton capacity. Electric bay doors have been added to the facility in order to prevent blockage of vehicles while in bays. There are now separate rest rooms for male and female customers. The administrative area and tool issue room have been refurbished, which resulted in a comfortable customer service waiting area, dust and noise free. A large carport has been constructed and contains electrical outlets for a tow truck. In addition to these exciting and convenient changes, the explosion-proof battery room has been refurbished and is now in compliance with German law. Last but not least, the floor is remodeled into a non-skid flooring, so customers can feel safe walking through the garage. Come in and see these friendly faces, and check out all the new improvements made for your convenience and use at any time!
