This is our second Newsletter of 2012 while some counties have given us articles for publication many of you have not and to make a Newsletter a success we must have every county involved. To make this Newsletter a success we require input from each County and club of the province.

Clubs if you would like to promote any Event, Fundraiser, Blitz, Gaelic for Mothers, also reports from games would be most welcome, or any way you wish to promote your club you now have the opportunity just send information to pro@munsterladiesgaelic.ie . The Newsletter will be printed monthly and will have a dedicated section for forthcoming events and fixtures.

MUNSTER LADIES 7’S TOURNAMENTIn association with Scally’s Super Valu and the Quality Hotel, Clonakilty.It is that time of the year again when the attentions of many clubs of Munster turn to preparing for the club 7s competition on Saturday June 23rd in association with Scally’s SuperValu and the Quality hotel.This the third year of the tournament but the second for the event to be held in the fantastic setting of Clonakilty GAA Club. In 2011, 37 teams in total participated in the event with competitions for junior, intermediate and senior teams. is now a well-established ladies football programme that takes place in numerous sites throughout the country each year. 2012 is no different with 8 sites in total underway in Munster alone. Many of these sites are under the guidance of Tara Ryan, Ladies Football UPO with Mary Beades coordinating two sites. The aim of the programme is to introduce ladies football to girls between 9-13 who have not

played before and following the 8 week programme investigate the possibility of filtering the participants into neighbouring clubs or in some case set up new Ladies football clubs in the respective areas.

The Spring phase of Gaelic4Girls 2012 will culminate in a massive blitz in Moyle Rovers GAA club on May 26th with in excess of 300 girls participating on the day.

UPDATE FROM DEVELOPMENT OFFICERS:Each edition one county development officer will give a brief outline of development activities in their county. This month we hear from the Premier county, Tipperary and their development officer Siobhán Condon.

It would be next to impossible for any County Board to try and successfully implement coaching programmes, develop club structures and co-ordinate development squads along with all the other essential aspects of development without the help and support of a Development Committee. Sometimes sub-committees can be viewed by many as groups where there can be a lot of talk but ultimately very little action and this can deter many potential members from ever getting involved. However, from a personal viewpoint, the role of the Development Committee in Tipperary in the past number of months has involved much practical work involving coaching programmes, development squad training and referee recruitment courses and this has been extremely refreshing and enriching. The Operational Plan that has been created has provided clear, practical and definitive goals for the county and it has given us an obvious direction to follow. As regards coaching, the fundamental aim of all these courses and programmes has to be that those attending are empowered with the knowledge and information that allows them to become better coaches and who will go back to their clubs and provide quality coaching for their own players.

The Development Committee in Tipperary is still a relatively new concept and while it has been at times and will continue to be a steep learning curve for all involved, the primary objective remains the same. That objective being that standards at both an administrative and a practical level are continuously raised through the hard work, enthusiasm and passion of those connected with the Development Committee whilst receiving vital assistance from the County Board and all the clubs in the county.

Want or have new volunteers for your club?Want to be able to give them some simple tips for coaching and administration?

Look no further.. Ladies Football have the programme for your club!

What is it? This workshop is 2.5 hours in duration and deals with the very basics of volunteering at both an administrative and coaching level within clubs. The workshop will deal with the areas of recruitment and recognition of volunteers as well as the basic coaching tips that a new volunteer would need before they begin coaching or assisting a coach.

Who is it for? It is the ideal workshop for clubs, new or old who have sourced some new volunteers but are looking for some basic training for those volunteers to support them in their role.

Who delivers it? The workshop is delivered by Nationally trained tutors in a very relaxed, fun manner allowing for the creation of great club/off the pitch team spirit over the 2.5 hours.

What facilities are required? The ideal venue for this workshop is a facility with a meeting room and a regular size indoor hall.

What numbers are required? The club would require a minimum of 6 new volunteers along with the current volunteers for this workshop.

How much does it cost? Currently the Ready Steady Play programme is free of charge to all clubs other than any cost that may be associated with the facility.

How can I access it? If your club is interested in running this workshop all you have to do is contact Aislinn in the Ladies Football office at 01 8363156 or email aislinn@ladiesgaelic.ie.

MLGFA MUNSTER FINAL JULY 14TH – WOULD YOUR CLUB LIKE THE CHANCE TO PLAY AT HALF TIME?

MLGFA are currently seeking applications from Under 12 club teams for an opportunity to play at half time in either the Munster Intermediate or Senior finals to be held in Cork on July 14th.

One club from each county will be given the opportunity to represent their club and county on that day. Clubs are requested to apply by email in any format; letter, poem, poster, photograph etc. to

marydev@munsterladiesgaelic.ie before the closing date of Friday June 22nd at 4.00pm. Applications made after that date will not be considered. Summer is on the way….. It is time for Cúl Camps!Ladies Football has once again teamed up with the Gaelic games family to bring the Cúl Camps programme to every corner of the

country. Every year the Cúl Camps provide boys and girls aged 6- 13yrs the opportunity to enjoy Gaelic football through a week long camp in the company of friends and qualified coaches. The Kellogg’s Cúl Camps take place in numerous venues across each county and ladies football clubs are encouraged to promote the camps to their members as a means of improving their skills and enjoying the game in a fun and safe environment. Under 12 blitz- attention all clubs!Save the date!Following the hugely successful Under 12 Blitz held in Newtownshandrom recently Munster Ladies will host another blitz day but this time there will be three venues around the Province to make travel that little bit easier.

MLGFA PP 1ST YR. BLITZ 2012The annual provincial post primary 1st yr. blitz was held at Mallow on Wednesday May 2nd in glorious sunshine.

A massive increase of school participation was evident with a total of 44 teams competing.

44 schools participated which saw an increase of 18 over the previous highest total. A number of schools participating for the first time and the plus for a number of the first timers was, they featured in finals with some trophy winners.

CORK POST PRIMARY FIRST YEAR BLITZ-2012

The Cork Post Primary First year Blitz was held in the excellent new complex in Whitechurch on their new sand based pitches, it looked as if the blitz would fall foul of the weather until Whitechurch kindly agreed to host it at the last minute. 18 teams in total competed on the day, after two preliminary games the teams were split into groups of four for semi-finals. In the top section the surprise package of the day were

Colaiste Toirbthe Bandon who defeated St Mary’s Macroom in the semi and in a thrilling final defeated Loreto fermoy by a point which effectively was the last kick of the game. The B final was a west Cork affair with Sacred Heart Clonakilty getting the better of Schull C C . In the C final Kinsale C S proved

too strong for Colaiste an Phiarsaigh . While we had another exciting game in the D final where Scoil Mhuire Blarney managed to maintain their one goal half time advantage over P S Trionade Youghal right to the final whistle. In the plate final Loretto Fermoy B were too strong for Gaelcolaiste Mhuire.

Our thanks to all the teachers and referees who helped out on the day, and thanks to Whitchurch for allowing the finals go ahead.

BGE NATIONAL LEAGUE DIV 1 FINAL

Cork 2-7 Monaghan 1-13 A fifth league title in a row and a ninth league victory from nine starts in 2012 was just beyond a brave Cork team in the Bord Gais Energy National league Division 1 Final against Monaghan in Parnell Park,

Dublin. An early second half surge from Monaghan proved decisive as the Northern girls outscored Cork by 1-5 to 0-1 and from there on Cork were chasing a game which despite their fightback was just beyond their grasp.

Monaghan started the match with the aid of a stiff breeze and took the game to Cork from the off and were two points to the good before Cork registered their first point through Nollaig Cleary. Monaghan keeper Linda Martin denied Cork with two fine saves as the Cork forward line battled to match the intensity of a determined Monaghan defence.

AISLING MCGING SENIOR B LADIES

CHAMPIONSHIP (4TH ROUND) Lilywhites fail to field against the Kingdom

Kildare failed to field in the 4th round of the Aisling McGing Senior B Ladies Championship as they failed to gather a team to travel to the Kingdom on Sunday. A very disappointing approach when they only notified Kerry at 1pm on Saturday and we must extend our sincere thanks to the Spa GAA club

and their Stewards who had worked very hard and gave up their time to facilitate the fixture. The Kerry Junior’s next venture is to face Cork next Sunday the 3rd of June in Clonakilty at 2pm. Regardless of the result Kerry are guaranteed a home semi final on the weekend of June 17th and their opponants will be known after next weekend which is the last round.

Aisling McGing Round 3 Kerry 4-24 Meath 1-5Kerry made a successful 9 hour round trip to Synadd GAA ground in County Meath and easily booked a place in the All- Ireland semi final with a comprehensive victory over the home side last Sunday. Having defeated Dublin in the opening round Kerry were favourites and this tag did not sit too well in the opening quarter when despite having almost total possession they only lead 0-6 to 1-1 and continued to struggle with a tiggerish Meath team who showed great battling qualities at times. Amy Foley helped put some day light with an 18th minute goal to put the game 1-8 to 1-3. However it was Kerry’s great finish to the first half that put this game beyond doubt as Kerry added a quick fire 2-2 in less than 2 minutes with Mary Herlihy and Amy Foley finding the net. Kerry led at the break 3-11 to 1-4.

Kerry maintained a professional approach in the second half and added a further goal from Muireann O’Shea and with the full forward line putting up a total of 3-12 Kerry were never going to be in doubt. Duagh’s Eilis Dillion, John Mitchells Andrea O’Connor and Desmonds Leanne Mangan all made their Inter County Junior debuts as Kerry ran out easy winners on a score line of 4-24 to 1-5. Kerry now will host Kildare in round 3 at Spa on Sunday at 2pm and will hope to continue their winning form ahead of round 4 with neighbours Cork who defeated Kerry in last year’s All Ireland’s semi-final.

BORD GÁIS ENERGY LADIES FOOTBALL TEAMS OF THE

LEAGUE ANNOUNCEDThe annual Bord Gáis Energy Teams of League awards ceremony took place in Croke Park during the week and where 60 players were recognised for their displays over the last four months. 2012 is the fourth year Bord Gáis Energy have sponsored the Ladies National Football Leagues and these awards honour those players, across all four divisions, that delivered on a consistent basis for their counties over the league campaigns. In Division Two, league winners Mayo lead the way with four positions including captain Claire Egan and League Final Player of the Match Cora Staunton. Galway followed close behind with three winners. Clare, Kerry and Fermanagh were all represented with two selections and 1 each from Cavan and Waterford

GLEBE KITCHENS U12 FOOTBALL CO LEAGUE

The Phase 1 of the U12 league were completed last Friday and all clubs have been notified of the new leagues which will commence on this coming Friday June 1st. The five divisions which will run from June 1st till the end of July.

MINOR FINAL CORK 4-8 KERRY 1-10

Our Minors again faced Kerry in the second final of the day and again this contest did not disappoint with both teams serving up a game which showcased the best of passion, commitment and skill in the true tradition of Cork-Kerry encounters.

Inspired by the heroics of their U14 counterparts in the earlier match Cork came out of the traps with all guns blazing from the off in this game. Cork Senior panellist Doireann O’ Sullivan having missed an early close in free responded in the best possible manner by scoring two goals to get Cork off to a flying start.

These early scores proved to be decisive in the end as try as they might Kerry were unable to regain parity throughout a hugely competitive final. Kerry responded well to Cork’s opening salvo and began to find the target with some excellent long range points to whittle away at Cork’s lead however they received another body blow when Aileen Buckley scored Cork’s third goal to extend their lead to 3-2 to 0-4 at the half time break.

U14 – FINAL

Cork 1-14 Kerry 2-9 Cork edged out Kerry in an enthralling Munster Final which had the large gathering of supporters captivated to the final whistle.

Laura Cleary (Eire Óg) who was outstanding on the day for Cork received the player of the match award whilst Captain Mairead O’ Sullivan (St. Vals) received the trophy on behalf of the victorious Cork team who had shown great character when their need was greatest.

AISLING MCGING – ROUND 2 CORK V MEATH – PASSAGE – 13/05/12

Cork 2-16 Meath 0-2Cork’s Senior Development Team had a home fixture hosted by the Passage Club against Meath on Sun 13th May.

Meath played with the aid of a strong wind in the first half but found the going tough against a focussed Cork outfit who were on their game from the off.

Cork were four points to the good (Aine Cott (2), Jenny Luddy (1) and Emma Farmer (1) ) before Meath registered their first scores in the 18th and 25th minutes however a goal from Laura Cronin and

a point from Sarah Harrington saw Cork leading 1-5 to 0-2 at half time.

The second half was a much more one sided affair as Cork aided by a strong breeze added a further 1-11 without reply to see out the tie on a scoreline of 2-16 to 0-2.

Cork took the oppotrunity to empty their bench throughout the second half with all the replacements acquitting themselves well when entering the fray.
