Report Version Numbering

Purpose of Report Versioning

PayPal will periodically generate new versions of reports. New versions of reports can be released based one of the following business situations:

Modifications to the file format of an existing report Modifications to the quoting/context of data elements of an existing report Modifications to the file naming convention of an existing report Modifications to file encoding (UTF-8/UCS-2) of an existing report Modifications columns location of an existing report Dramatic modifications to data elements in an existing report, such as changing a text

string to a single byte code

Frequency of Versioning

PayPal will release new versions when the business need arises. In general, most new versions will be released concurrent to the regular PayPal product release, which occurs on a bi-monthly basis (check with PayPal Merchant Technical Services for the specific calendar of release dates). PayPal does reserve the right to periodically release new report versions asynchronous to the regular PayPal product release. Note that all releases are designed not to impact existing reports, report versions, and report users.

Version Impact/Integration

All new version releases are independent of existing report version generation. For example, the release of Report A Version 2 will not impact Report A version 3. Until specific notice is provided to merchants and/or partners, report users will not be required to upgrade to new report versions when new versions are released. Integration to new versions is voluntary. In many cases, PayPal will release documentation for new reports and report versions prior to their release to either the production environment or the beta sandbox environment.

Report / Report Version Deactivation/Deprecation

PayPal currently has a specific policy for regular report or report version deactivation or deprecation. PayPal will not deactivate or deprecate a specific version of a report without prior notice to the version's recipients. Additionally, PayPal will communicate a migration plan for the recipients of the report that is being deprecated to ensure business continuity on the part of the merchant and/or partner. This does not include deactivation of reports for an account due to account closure

Version Naming

Each report document describes how version information related to each report is communicated via the report filename and/or header information. Report users should refer to the documentation for each specific report to understand how to differentiate between two versions of the same report.

Concurrent Versions

The PayPal system allows any individual account to receive two versions of the same report concurrently. For example, a user could receive both Report A Version 1 and Report A Version 2 on a daily basis. Concurrent Report Version distribution allows merchants and/or partners to upgrade to new Report Versions without impact to their existing Report integration and related business processes. Users do not have to subscribe to sequential versions concurrently and can subscribe to versions that are not in sequence. For example, a user can subscribe to Report A Version 1 and Report A version 5, effectively skipping Report A Versions 2, 3 & 4.

Multiple Account Management Overview

Multiple Account Management FeaturesPayPal Multiple Account Management (MAM) provides merchant accounts that process payments for more than one business entity with the following specially enabled PayPal features: Account Creation and Management: A PayPal account with the appropriate Multiple

Account Management permission can modify the payment receiving preferences, the account descriptors, the contact information, notification points, and other account data via the PayPal Account Management Batch Interface.In addition, accounts with the appropriate Multiple Account Management permissions can create new PayPal accounts that are wholly managed by them. See Chapter 2, Batch Account Creation and Management, for more details.

Consolidated Settlement: A PayPal account with the appropriate Multiple Account Management permission can receive the funds of other accounts into its bank account. See Chapter 3, Settlement Consolidation and Reporting, for more details.

Consolidated Reports: A PayPal account with the appropriate Multiple Account Management permission can receive the reports of other PayPal accounts in a special consolidated version of the report. See Chapter 4, Consolidated Reports, for more details.

At its most basic, Multiple Account Management describes and controls a set of permissions for PayPal master accounts (partners) to control the business operations of other PayPal sub-accounts (merchants).

Enrollment and Permissions for PayPal Account ManagementExisting PayPal accounts (those not created with Multiple Account Management) that wish to use any Multiple Account Management feature must contact a PayPal Account Manager. Both master accounts and sub-accounts must contact PayPal account management in order to activate Multiple Account Management features.Each of the Multiple Account Management features is independent of the others. For example, a PayPal partner might be granted permission to use batch account management, but not settlement consolidation or reporting. Permissions are set by your PayPal Account Manager.

Batch Account Creation and Management

Multiple Account Management (MAM) Batch Account Creation and Management is a PayPal service for partners to programmatically submit requests to create or manage PayPal accounts and programmatically retrieve the results of the processing of those requests. Programmatic access to the Multiple Account Management server is by way of an Secure FTP (sFTP) client. For more information, ask your PayPal Account Manager for the Secure FTP Server Specification.

Batch Processing OverviewThere are two types of batch account requests: Create Account Requests and Manage Account Requests. Both types of requests can be included in the same input file. You cannot, however, create and then manage the same account in a single batch input file. A Create Account request creates a new PayPal account. The primary key for creating a

new PayPal account is the value of the Payer field, which must be a valid email address that does not already exist in the PayPal system.

A Manage Account request updates the account settings of an existing PayPal account. The primary key for updating an existing PayPal account is the value of the PayerID field, which is returned in the batch results file when the account is initially created.

The following files are used for Multiple Account Management: The batch input file is an XML file that contains create account and manage account

requests to be processed by PayPal. The validation receipt file is an XML file reporting the success or failure of the syntax and

data integrity of the batch input file. The processing results file is a report of the success or failure of the account creation or

management requests submitted in a batch input file. The account management report provides a daily snapshot of all of the accounts managed

by the PayPal partner. PayPal does not currently support the closure of accounts via the Multiple Account Management (MAM) boarding interface. To close an account, contact PayPal Account Management, who will close the account using the PayPal Back Office Admin Tools. Closed accounts have an account status of C value for "'Closed" in the PayPal Account Management Report.
