2015 Kindergarten InformationInformation sessions for prospective parents of 2015 Kindergarten students will be held in Mrs Martin’s room on Wednesday 30th July (Term 3, Week 3) at 2pm and 7pm. Again this year we will be holding an extended transition program, scheduled to operate for eight consecutive school weeks commencing on Wednesday 27th August. An expression of interest about this program was sent home with all families at the end of last term. Even though it may not be applicable to you, you may know of someone who it is. If you have a child, or know of anyone with a child residing in the Mullumbimby Public School enrolment zone who turns five before 30th July 2015 or turns six in 2015, please alert them to this information. Enrolment forms are available at the office for 2015 Kindergarten students and any students enrolling in Years 1-6.

We hope to see as many of you as possible at our Open Day.

October Fair posterThe October Fair committee are trying to come up with a poster which will help promote the event this year. Stu-dents are invited to design a poster which they think will best encapsulate the meaning of our school fair. The com-mittee have extended the time frame for this poster. Interested students have until Friday 1st August to have submit-ted their poster entry. We invite students to be as creative as they can be in coming up with a fantastic design! The winner will receive a free ride pass at our fair.

Uniform shop newsA call out for anyone who may have some second-hand uniforms they would like to donate... Letitia has sold over 50 items off the racks last week and they are looking a little bare.

P&C CalendarAs one of our major fundraisers for this year, the school P&C Association are putting together a 2015 calendar. The calendar will feature photos of Mullumbimby and surrounds. In order to cover our printing costs we are asking our local, valued businesses to consider taking an advertising space in our calendar. The spaces are the size of a business card and are priced at $80 ea. If you would like to support our school in the form of an advertisement could you please contact the school or alter-natively email [email protected] with details.Thank you for taking the time to consider this request, we greatly appreciate your support.

Have a great week!

Healthy Eating

‘Eat a rainbow of fruit and vegetables everyday’

This Term 1/2A students will be working on a Healthy Eating unit of work. The students will look at what food groups make a balanced meal and which foods fit into those groups. During the term the children will have the opportunity to plan, prepare and cook a variety of healthy snacks. This week we investigated the 5 food groups and found pictures of these foods in magazines. The students then placed the pictures on the chart in the matching food group. Last week the students planned and prepared ingredients to make Fruit Kebabs and as you can see they thoroughly enjoy them!! enjoyed them!!

How to S-t-r-e-t-c-h the Food Dollar

AND Eat Healthy

Vegetables: Fresh, in season are usually the best buy, however, frozen vegetables can be more economical at certain times of year and are always convenient with little waste, it’s good to keep some in the freezer.

For maximum nutrition; when preparing fresh vegies: minimise the chopping and cutting, clean skins rather than peeling, don’t soak your vegies and try not to overcook.

Meat, chicken, fish: When you’re buying, compare cost per serving rather than per kilogram as sometimes a moderately priced protein with little or no waste may be more economical than a very cheap one with more gristle, bone or fat. Cheaper cuts are just as nutritious but may need different preparation methods for maximum deliciousness! Using legumes such as lentils, peas and beans (cans are quick) will extend most stews and casseroles; maintain protein content and increasing fibre.

Milk: Powdered (dried) milk contains all the nutrients of fresh milk and it’s very convenient. If you make it up the night before it’s very like fresh in the morning. It’s also very good for using in cooking.

Canteen NewsSushi now available: Chicken Teriyaki Prawn Tempura Vegetable Tempura Chicken/avacado or just avacadoPlease order by Wednesday.Place your name and class on an envelope or lunch bag with your order into “Sushi Box” at the office.
