CONGRATULATIONS TO THE FOURTEEN ACCELERANDO STUDENTS WHO WON CHAIRS IN MID-STATE BANDS AND ORCHESTRAS, AND THE FOUR STUDENTS WHO REPRESENT ACCELERANDO AT ALL-STATE THIS YEAR. A ccelerando is an intensive education program designed to prepare gifted young students of diverse ethnic backgrounds for pursuing music at the collegiate level and beyond. Accelerando seeks to create professional opportunities for musicians from ethnic communities underrepresented in today’s orchestras by providing them with instruction, mentorship, performance experiences and assistance with applying to music schools. With access to the resources of a major American orchestra, these students will be able to realize their full potential and will form the next generation of orchestra musicians. • Students in grades 4-9 may audition in spring 2018 • When fully implemented, program will serve students in grades 5-12 • Participants will receive year-round instruction from a Nashville Symphony musician or highly qualified local instructor • Students and their families are eligible to receive complimentary tickets for Nashville Symphony Classical Series performances • Solo recital and chamber performance opportunities • Technical and performance juries each year • Students are required to participate in local large ensembles, including school band or orchestra and/or local youth orchestras • Summer activities for students, including camps and lessons • Guidance and counseling to students and families about every aspect of preparing for a professional musical career, including college applications • Financial and logistical assistance in applying for music school (transportation and room costs, scheduling, etc.) JANUARY 22 Informational Meeting at Antioch High School FEBRUARY 5 Informational Meeting at I.T.
