MSc in Computing Science and Web Technologies Our MSc programme aims to provide you with an intensive and practical programme including individual and team projects, tutorials, lab sessions and assessments that will give you the edge in the international recruitment market.

As a graduate of computing science and web technologies from the University of the Highlands and Islands, you will have the high level knowledge, skills and understanding of computing, computing science and web technologies, that IT employers need.

What you will study on our MScThe MSc is made up of modules taught over two 14-week semesters, a dissertation and live project in the third semester.

Central to your success will be a four-week intensive induction programme at the start of your course. This will extend your knowledge and skills in databases, object-oriented programming, web programming and independent learning.

Content includes:

SEMESTER ONE

Completion of 3 modules. Each is worth 20 SCQF credits.

SEMESTER TWO

Completion of a further 3 modules. Each is worth 20 SCQF credits.

• Databasesystems• Human-computerinteraction• Webscience

SEMESTER THREE

Completion of the following. Worth 60 SCQF credits.

• Dissertation

We work with industry to provide placement opportunities, which should give you valuable computing experience with UK-based organisations, allowing you to apply theories and concepts from the MSc to real situations. Live projects with host organisations may include engineering, aeronautical engineering, energy, IT, business and finance, depending on the field you choose. Placements run in the third semester and you may be asked to work up to 5 days a week in your partner organisation, developing your project.

Entry requirements A minimum 2:2 honours UK Computing degree from a recognised university or equivalent awarding institution. Equivalences in education will be checked using NARIC through the International Centre.

Alternative and equivalent qualifications and experience will be considered on an individual basis, overseen by the admissions panel.

You should also have an overall IELTS score of 6.5 or above, with no individual components (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking) scoring less than 6.
