From the desk of Mr. Brown, PrincipalIt is really important that all members of our community feel welcomed. No matter what
neighborhoods, cities, townships or areas of Genesee county you may come from we are all Eagles. It must be the mission of all members of our community to develop strong
relationships that will change the WORLD!
Last week a survey was distributed. Please take time to give us your honest feedback to ensure that we keep doing things that we do well and strengthen the areas where we can
still grow. The survey can be found HERE.
From the desk of Mrs. Martin, Assistant Principal Our Curriculum Family Nights are designed to support you and your child with our curriculum.
Social Studies Family Night is Tuesday, February 28th. March will be Reading Month! Reading is a passion of mine and teaching students to read is the most important thing that we do at
Woodland Park Academy. Learning to read is a process that started the day you started reading to your baby and continues each time you read together. We want to support you in your efforts
to continue the learning process with reading (or any other subject). Literacy Family Night is March 14th. Watch for Math DAY in April! We love to have parents join us with events designed
to engage everyone in our curriculum!

The Academic Corner
How To Read With A Beginning Reader:
• Encourage your child to use his/her finger to point to each word.
• Read a sentence and have your child repeat it.
• Take turns reading a sentence each or a page each.
• Talk about the story as you read it. “What do you think will happen
next? What does this story remind you of? How do you think this
character feels?”
• Don’t be afraid to read the same book again! Repeated reading helps
build reading fluency.
Reading TO your child is just as valuable as your child reading to
you! Even for Middle School students!
Just adding 10 minutes of reading time per day can change your child’s trajectory for academic
success!
The Reading Committee and PTO are organizing March’s ALL
SCHOOL READ book. The book that they chose has themes of
kindness, friendship and perseverance. Look for the book in
March!
Want a hint?
The title of the book involves a refreshing summer drink.
