County Grading Policy• Failure to attempt or submit an assignment will be given a 0%.

*Written grades on assignments indicate they were recorded in my grade book. Assignments with stars, checks, or check minuses were not recorded in my grade book.

• If a student is absent, they MUST present a written excuse from a parent/guardian or doctor to receive make-up work. The school is not required to give make-up work for unlawful absences. (Refer to A.P. 5113)

• For a lawful (excused) absence, a student will have the same number of days they were absent to complete the make-up work (3 days absent = 3 days after return to complete work).

• Failure to complete make-up work within the allotted time will result in a 0%. (Refer to A.P. 5113

Page 11: Ms. Wine Ms. Sanders Mr. Jones-Bowie State Intern Whitehall Elementary Grade 5.

Homework Policy• Homework is an important reinforcement to instruction

and should be completed the evening it is assigned, unless otherwise indicated by the teacher.

• Each student will be given a one day “grace period” for late homework (points will not be deducted from the assignment).– Not long term assignments

• If homework is not returned after the grace period, the assignment will receive a 0%.

• Your child will receive a homework check if they forget their homework. There is not a grace period for homework checks – it will be given the day the homework is due. This will affect your child’s Work Habits grade for that week.

Instrumental/Chorus• Instrumental music and chorus are valuable programs at our

school offered to 4th and 5th graders.

• Students accepted into band or chorus will miss instructional time approximately one or two times a week (the times vary depending on the instrument or chorus).

• Students are responsible for completing missed work upon their return to class. Each student in band or chorus will also be assigned a buddy to help them adjust.

• Because of strict county time allotments, teachers cannot reteach entire lessons. If missing class becomes too much for a student to handle and grades begin to decline, the parent(s) of the student and I will discuss whether or not band or chorus are the best choice for the child.
