As a military brat, I moved six times as a kid. Every other

move, however, we found ourselves back in Virginia

Beach, so I consider VB to be my home. When I was

young, I loved spending the day at the beach with my

family, building sand castles and jumping waves. As I grew

older, I started to hang out at the beach at night with both

my friends and my boyfriend. We would walk along theboardwalk, listen to the live music, and sit in the sand,

talking for as long as we could, until we got that phone call

from our parents and had to be home for curfew. The song

Ocean Avenue reminds me of these summer nights in

high school where I stayed out late, bare feet in the

sand, philosophizing about life. In addition, Ocean

Avenue is song about the ache that results from times

that have past and not appreciating what you had when

you had it, which I can relate to due to our moving

situation. Each time wed move away from Virginia Beach,

Id miss my home, the times at the beach, and my friends,

desperately. Wed grow apart despite the phone calls and

letters, and even when I returned, our relationship was

    never the same.

    Woke up in London yesterday

Found myself in the city near Piccadilly

Don't really know how I got here

I got some pictures on my phone

New names and numbers that I don't know

Address to places like Abbey Road

Day turns to night, night turns to whatever we want

    We're young enough to say

Oh this has gotta be the good life

This has gotta be the good life

This could really be a good life, good life

Say oh, got this feeling that you can't fight

Like this city is on fire tonight

This could really be a good life

    A good, good life

    Plot:Good Life One Republic

I have always been fascinated with Englandan interest that probably stemmed from my lifelong

obsession with the Harry Potter series. Thus, in college, I jumped on the opportunity to study abroad inLondon, and I did so during my Junior year. At first, I was concerned that London wouldn t live up to my

expectations, but I loved everything about the citythe temperament and accents of the locals, the

relaxed pace, the pubs, the quirky fashions, the buildings and history. Every day as I walked the streets

which included Abbey Road and PiccadillyI had this complete and constant feeling of elation, that I

was so lucky to be alive and in London, an emotional experience that, I believe, is captured by the song

Good Life. Every time I hear this song, I can visualize Piccadilly Circus and the surrounding areas.

I hope that I can visit again soon.

    Conflict: Into the Ocean

    Blue October

I want to swim away but don't know howSometimes it feels just like I'm falling in the ocean

Let the waves up take me down

Let the hurricane set in motion... yeah

Let the rain of what I feel right now...come downLet the rain come down

This song is wonderfully poetic; Blue October uses images of a stormingocean and a drowning swimmer as a metaphor for internal turmoil. All

individuals experience internal conflict to some extent. Personally, I have aType A personality and I have high expectations for myself which oftentimesleads to a great deal of stress. Sometimes I have days where I feel like I amdrowning, similarly to the speaker in Into the Ocean, and I have to fight toget myself out of the rain.

Point of View: Awake My SoulMumford & Sons

How fickle my heart and how woozy myeyes

I struggle to find any truth in your lies

And now my heart stumbles on things Idon't know

My weakness I feel I must finally show

Lend me your hand and we'll conquerthem all

But lend me your heart and I'll just letyou fall

Lend me your eyes I can change whatyou see

But your soul you must keep, totally free

Har har, har har, har har, har har

    Awake my soul

    Awake my soul

    This song captures my existential

philosophy -- I believe that everyone is

    searching for something, some truth,

but that the mundane aspects of our

lives stifle our natural curiosity. For

this reason, we oftentimes look to

guides to awake our soul. These

guides come in a variety of sources:

    they may be teachers, parents,

    religious leaders, books, etc.

Regardless, I believe that it is

    important that individuals find

    themselves and create meaningful

lives, whichever way floats their boats.

I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm

undefinedI'm just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending

    unplanned

Staring at the blank page before you

    Open up the dirty window

Let the sun illuminate the words that you could

    not find

Reaching for something in the distance

So close you can almost taste it

    Release your inhibitions

Feel the rain on your skin

No one else can feel it for youOnly you can let it in

No one else, no one else

Can speak the words on your lips

    Drench yourself in words unspoken

Live your life with arms wide open

Today is where your book begins

    The rest is still unwritten

Unwritten is the perfect theme song for

my life because its imagery and message

combines my passions for writing and

books with my belief in self-growth and

self-empowerment. Although I have ageneral idea of where I want my life to

lead, I recognize that my plans are

probably going to change as I move on

with my life, that my future is still,

    ultimately, unplanned, open, and free

    like ablank page

    before me. And, on

good days, I am so, incredibly excited

about this, and I feel similarly to the

optimism and energy radiated by this song.

Granted, I oftentimes struggle with bouts

of anxiety, but I try to make it a conscious

effort to enjoy the small things in life asthey happen. I recognize that it is within

my power to shape my attitude and my

life. Unwritten is about just this, living in

the moment, and actively deciding to be a

    positive influence.
