MOVIE POSTER ANALYSIS

THE MAIN IMAGE

I feel that the main and most important feature on a movie poster is the main image. It is the first thing to often catch the viewers eye therefore when I was creating my movie poster I wanted to take lots of images in order to give me a range to choose the best. Most movie posters include all of the main characters so in my final draft I used all four of my main characters on the front cover. When making drafts I made one of just one character within my teaser trailer as I noticed The Hangover has released 4 separate Movie Posters including all 4 characters. I found this worked well however for my final draft I wanted to include all of my characters shown in the teaser trailer. When creating my movie poster I cropped the main image in order for it to look more professional as the original image was quite far away.

When I was creating a movie poster, my research into other movie posters had encouraged my journey through making my very own real media product. I knew that apart from the main image, one of the most necessary and noticeable codes and conventions of a movie poster is the billing block. The billing block provides information of the movies producer, editors, directors, photographers and actors. Also on a movie poster, normally at the bottom, are social networking links to the movies sites. I also incorporated this technique into my own work in order for it to look real. I also used a tagline in my movie poster that I used in my teaser trailer.

BILLING BLOCK, SOCIAL NETWORK LINKS, TAGLINES.

TITLE, CHARACTER NAMES AND OTHER CODES AND CONVENTIONS.

For my main movie poster, I included the same title from my main teaser trailer. I liked this title as I found it on www.urbanfonts.com and thought it was very unique. I added in a same car image I found on Google images. This little car adds to my theme of road trip as I didn't’t include the car from the teaser trailer. During my research I found that some movie posters include lines as part of the codes and conventions. I used a red line as it stands out on the white background. Also when I was researching other movie posters, I found that the majority of movie posters include the character names at the top of the poster. I also incorporated this technique into mine.
