REPORT CARDS Report cards for Semester 2 were distributed via email on Monday. As Principal, I have enjoyed reading the reports, especially the overall comments. The majority of students should be proud of their efforts this semester. Below is the percentage of students who received A-C results for English, Maths and Science for both semesters this year.

95.6% of our students received A-C ratings for Behaviour in Semester 2 and 97% for Effort. Congratulations to all students for their academic performance, effort and behaviour in general!

Getting to know our new students and their families It is now easier for new families to share their child’s Kindergarten transition statement with the school. The statements are a great way for our Prep teachers to get to know the children in their class before the first day, so they can prepare to welcome them and plan for their ongoing learning and development. Kindergarten teachers, parents, carers and children develop transition statements together near the end of the kindy year. The transition statement is a snapshot of each child’s strengths, interests and learning through kindergarten. Families will receive their child’s transition statement with the transition statement parent/carer consent form. By signing the form parents and carers can now give their consent for transition statements to be forwarded to a child’s new school and outside school hours care service directly from kindergartens. We will be in touch with local services to ensure our email address is known to the kindergarten teachers to receive the transition statements. For more information about the new transition statement consent form visit the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority website.

THANK YOU Thank you to everyone who donated drinks for The Noodle Stall at the Chamber of Commerce Street Party yesterday. A huge shout out to all the mums and dads who helped set up, sell noodles and drinks and also pack up at the end of the night. The noodles proved to be a huge success last year and we doubled our amount to 200 boxes this year. A massive thanks to Spotless for donating the entire amount of ingredients chopped and ready for cooking. Also, a special thanks to Rachel Edwards for cooking it all in our Hall kitchen. Lastly, a big thank you must go out to Ken and Zelma from the Moura Fish Stocking group who donated their bane maire for the night. They kindly set it up and packed it away for us as well.

BIG NIGHT OUT A very successful event put together by two very dedicated women, Kylie Chater and Kate Gassman without their hard work and persistence this event would not have happened. BNO raised over $20,000 to go towards the resurfacing project that has been started later this year. We are looking forward

to the next BNO on Saturday 14th March 2020, with a “mystery entertainment” and some amazing prizes to be won.

RESURFACING Back in 2017 the P & C committed to assisting the school with resurfacing all the bitumen areas between classrooms. Finally after several quotes, changes, planning and lots of money being fundraised by our P and C this project is hoping to be fully completed and finished in December-January period ready for the Start of term 1, 2020. P and C have contributed a whopping $68,000 towards the resurfacing project, well done!

TUCKSHOP Thank you to all the wonderful mums who helped out in the tuckshop or baked goods for the hall canteen this year. It certainly has been a very chaotic year in the kitchen but we have made it in the end. We look forward to starting back next year. We will still be looking for Volunteers so keep an eye out on our FB page. The P&C would like to wish all the students, staff and their families a merry and safe Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.

Dear Parents and Caregivers, I am writing to inform you about a new initiative for parents. The BRAVE Program which is a free, online, self-directed program that helps children with anxiety difficulties learn to manage their worries. There are age appropriate child and teen programs, and separate programs for parents of children and parents of teens. The child and teen programs focus on anxiety management strategies. In the parent versions of BRAVE, parents receive training in the same strategies, so they can help their child use what they have learned in the program. BRAVE is an acronym for the anxiety management strategies covered in the program and each letter refers to a different strategy: Body Signs - Training in the detection of the physiological symptoms of anxiety (heart racing, fast breath, sweating, tummy-ache) Relax - Calming down one’s body signs using relaxation techniques Activate Helpful Thoughts - Training in coping self-talk and cognitive restructuring (changing unhelpful ways of thinking to helpful ways of thinking) Victory Over Fears - Incorporating strategies for overcoming fears using exposure and problem solving (breaking down worries into small steps to overcome) Enjoy Yourself - Learning about positive reinforcement and self-reward. BRAVE Self-Help is made up of 10 sessions (each session is 30-60 minutes duration) for children and teens, while the parent programs are shorter. This program is free and may be done at home if you wish. If you would like more information, please go to the website and view the demonstration videos that are available for each program. The Frequently Asked Questions are also attached for you.

Online learning allows parents to work together with their child in their home environment and share this experience and growth together.

Merry Christmas! Michelle Williams School Guidance Officer

Here is a Christmas holiday project to help your child develop skills and strategies. If you think your child maybe suffering from anxious behaviours; this program is worth exploring and doing with your child.
