MOTOR CARRIER CHALLENGE

Chassis Changes in the Shipping IndustrySince 2009, ocean carriers have been moving away from providing chassis for some containers they carry. Motor carriers have been faced with the need to pay for chassis with greater frequency, struggling with the complexities of chassis provisioning by the ocean carrier and the administrative burden of processing chassis invoices.

Chassis rental costs (and any inaccuracies) are difficult & time-consuming for employees to address.

Employers end up having to hire additional staff to handle the invoices & employees end up spending disproportionate amounts of time going over charges to confirm accuracy.

A container is placed on a chassis at the rail or ocean terminal before the motor carrier arrives for pick up. Unless the container is taken off the chassis & placed on another

chassis, the chassis provider is already determined by the ocean container.

Often the chassis customer has

little choice in choosing their chassis provider.

Evans sought the ability to control the process of chassis provider selection in an effort to help

them control cost & improve efficiency.

Utilizing CCM’s Customer Choice Program allows motor carriers/shippers to choose their Chassis Provider – their OWN rate, their OWN terms with their choice.

CCM can handle different ocean carrier provision methods using the same pool of chassis. CCM can assign usage whether the motor carrier is selecting a chassis provider of their choosing, a BCO is choosing the provider, or the ocean carrier is providing the chassis for that door pick up or delivery.
