Mother doesn’t want a dogBy Judith Viorst
Mother doesn’t want a dog mother says they smell
And never sit when you say sitOr never when you yell
And when you come home late at night
And there is ice and snow You have to go back out
becauseThe dumb dog has to go
Mother doesn’t want a dog mother says they shed
and always let the strangers in and bark at friends instead
and do disgraceful things on rugsand track mud on the floor
and flop upon your bed at nightand snore their doggy snore
Mother doesn’t want a dog.She’s making a mistake.
Because, more than a dog, I think
She will not want this snake.
MidnightBy Emily Colson
Midnight in the field eating grass,
Crunching and waiting for time to pass.
He’s a big draft horse who likes to snack,
And trot with people on his back.
He likes it when you scratch his nose,
He slurps and snorts wherever he goes.Through corn fields
he likes to run,He thinks it is very
fun.
His long mane blowing in the breeze,
Flying past the cedar trees.
Across the trail to Shadow Rose Farm,
There Midnight is safe from any harm .
