Evans Lodge #7 and Daniel “Chappie” James Military Lodge #27  performed by RW Deputy 

Grand Master Charlie Flowers; WM Edward Davis MPML #26 and I a ended Big Brother & Big 

Sister Mentors Apprecia on Night in Colorado Springs where Big Brother & Sisters was recog-

nized for their service to the youth of our community; my Li le, Jovan, and I celebrated 4 years 

together in January.  A town hall mee ng was held for Southern Colorado; I would like to thank 

everyone who par cipated and shared your comments and sugges ons.  My wife Sherry and I 

traveled to Wyoming and a ended a wonderful celebra on of Mar n Luther King Jr. Day ban-

quet hosted by Western Star Lodge # 6;  also in a endance MWPGM Claude Gray Sr., PGWM 

Dora Jones, PGWM Anne e Harris, PM Rodrick Williams, PM Shone a Cooper, Sister Audrey 

McCray and DGM Richard Lewis Wyoming AF & A Grand Lodge.  The guest speaker, Colonel Carl 

M. Jones, Vice Commander 90th Missile Wing at Francis E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyoming  

delivered a heart warming speech on how far we have come and the work s ll needed to be 

done.  A hearty thanks to WM Jerome King , DDGM Floyd Waston Jr.,  PM Olen Johnson and RW 

Grand Treasurer James Robinson Sr. for an outstanding banquet program.  I A ended Colorado 

AF & AM Grand Lodge banquet and Session with MWPGM Fredrick Blue in Denver; MWGM 

Dana Speaks provided a very warm hospitality and the session was interes ng and full of chal-

lenges.  The Worshipful Masters, Wardens, Secretary and Treasurer workshop went very well 

(according to the surveys).  I really enjoyed the dialog and feedback from the cra .  A special 

thanks to the Southeast YMCA for the use of their facility and RW Junior Grand Warden Edward 

Moore as the chair for this event. 

WM Ben Fulton Mt. Ogden #20 & Candice, WM Harry Lee High Marine #12 & Wendy, DDGM 

Ulysses Cooper & Freddie accompanied me to the Grand Lodge of Utah F&AM Banquet in Salt 

Lake City.  MWGM Alan Record and his staff provided a grand hospitality and brotherly love 

prevailed.  The session shared some aspects that all Grand Lodges are experiencing e.g. discipli-

nary ac ons, social media abuse and use of background checks.  The informa on and lessons 

learned at these two Grand Lodge Session will be used and shared among the members of this 

Grand Body for building a stronger future together!  Due to inclement weather and safety we 

had to cancel our Masonic Workshop, but will rescheduled at a later date.

I had a co-worker visit London in January and took photos of the Grand Lodge of England, see photo sec on.  

 

And now...the rest of the story!  Once there were three trees on a hill in the woods. They were discussing their hopes and dreams when the first tree said, 'Someday I hope to be a treasure chest. I could be filled with gold, silver and precious gems. I could be decorated with intricate carving and everyone would see the beauty.'  Then the second tree said, 'Someday I will be a mighty ship.  I will take Kings and queens across the waters and sail to the corners of the world. Everyone will feel safe in me because of the 

strength of my hull.'  Finally the third tree said, 'I want to grow to be the tallest and straightest Tree in the forest. People will see 

me on top of the hill and look up to my branches, and think of the heavens and God and how close to them I am reaching. I will be 

the greatest tree of all  me and people will always remember me.'  A er a few years of praying that their dreams would come true, 

a group of woodsmen came upon the trees.  

 

When one came to the first tree he said, 'This looks like a strong tree, I think I should be able to sell the wood to a carpenter, 'and 

he began cu ng it down. The tree was happy, because he knew that the carpenter would make him into a treasure chest. At the 

second tree the woodsman said, 'This looks like a strong tree. I should be able to sell it to the shipyard.' The second tree was happy 

Because he knew he was on his way to becoming a mighty ship.  When the woodsmen came upon the third tree, the tree was 

frightened because he knew that if they cut him down his dreams would not come true. One of the woodsmen said, 'I don't need 

anything special from my tree, I'll take this one,' and he cut it down.   

 

When the first tree arrived at the carpenters, he was made into a feed box for animals. He was then placed in a barn and filled with 

hay. This was not at all what he had prayed for.  The second tree was cut and made into a small fishing boat. His dreams of being a 

mighty ship and carrying kings had come to an end.  The third tree was cut into large pieces, and le  alone in the dark.  The years 

went by, and the trees forgot about their dreams.   

 

Then one day, a man and woman came to the barn. She gave birth and they placed the baby in the hay in the feed box that was 

made from the first tree. The man wished that he could have made a crib for the baby, but this manger would have to do. The tree 

could feel the importance of this event and knew that it had held the greatest treasure of all  me.  

 

Years later,  a group of men got in the fishing boat made from the second tree. One of them was  red and went to sleep. While they were out on the water, a great storm arose and the tree didn't think it was strong enough to keep the men safe. The men 

woke the sleeping man, and He stood and said 'Peace' and the storm stopped. At this  me, the tree knew that it had carried the 

King of Kings in its boat.

Finally, someone came and got the third tree. It was carried through the streets as the people mocked the man who was carrying it. When they came to a stop, the man was nailed to the tree and raised in the air to die at the top of a hill.  When Sunday came, the tree came to realize that it was strong enough to stand at the top of the hill and be as close to God as was possible, because Jesus had been crucified on it.  The moral of this story is that when things don't seem to be going your way, always know that God has a plan for you. If you place your trust in Him, God will give you great gi s.  Each of the trees got what they wanted, just not in the way they had imagined.  We don't always know what God's plans are for us. We just know that His Ways are not our ways, but His ways are always best.

be NOTIFIED 72 HOURS IN ADVANCE of Desert Conference/Gala Day. This policy is necessary to ensure that we order the correct num-

ber of meals. Excep ons will be made for EMERGENCIES ONLY. If an individual Noble, Daughter or Associate registers, they must use the 

Registra on Form supplied by the Desert Recorder. No telephone call or e-mail will be accepted for advance registra on. Make as many 

copies of the form as needed for your Temple, Court and Associate. The Registra on Form is to be used by all Nobles and Daughters or As-

sociates throughout the Domain.

DESERT CONFERENCE INFORMAL DRESS: Coat and  e preferred but not mandatory. Shrine walking suit, jumpsuit, jackets, sweat/t-

shirts maybe worn as casual wear. The Fez and Collar will not be worn with t-shirt, shorts, cutoffs or other inappropriate dress. Nobles 

should use good judgment and wear a re appropriate for the occasion Desert Conference dates are April 18th and 19th. 

 

GALA DAY MANDATORY DRESS:

 THE HEROINES OF JERICHO   The female members are referred to as Heroines they are the wives, mothers, widows, daughters and sisters of Royal Arch Masons who are called Companions. The objects of the Court was formed and established to extend the great principles and teachings of never-ending lessons of morality, loyalty and friendship. As well as encourage and incite the interest of females toward the purpose of the Masonic Order, and to ameliorate the condi on of the des tute widow and the helpless orphan; and to relieve as far as possible, the worthy distressed female traveler. We are assured that, with the introduc on of Masonry into the provinces of America, came these degrees the oldest and most perfect of all the female degrees.   The Court was never designed to be wholly embodied within the limit of one degree, but, like the illustrious Royal Arch Ma-sonry under whose fraternal organiza on it was adopted, should teach its lessons step by step, each degree advancing cere-monies higher and more instruc ve in principle and design. The degrees have been adopted as honorary or side degrees to the Court, in so doing fulfilling the original inten ons and desires of the early making the Master Mason’s Daughter the 1st degree, the True Kinsman the 2nd degree and the Heroine of Jericho, the 3rd degree. If you are an Eastern Star or a Royal Arch Mason interested in joining the Heroines of Jericho contact any Heroine or Companion for a pe on.  Heroine Earline Hardy Most Ancient Matron

A brief History of the Heroines of Jericho; Dorothy L. Harrison No. 2 

The Heroines of Jericho was prac ced by Masons and their wives and daughters as far back as 1283 A.D.  The degrees are the 

oldest and most perfect of all the female degrees.  Hence the degree is the heritage and property of the Royal Arch Mason.  

The Court of Heroines of Jericho was formed and established for a more extended circula on of the great principles of the 

Masonic Order, teaching its never-ending lessons of morality, loyalty and friendship, as well as to encourage and mo vate 

the interest of females toward the purpose of the Masonic Order, and to improve the condi on of the des tute widow and 

the helpless orphan; and to relieve as far as possible, the worthy distressed female traveler.  These lessons as well as every-

thing that is pure and eleva ng that taught in the Court by facts and symbols, and their beauty is more clear and expressive 

today than ever before. 

The Dorothy L. Harrison Court No. 2 was established and received its charter  March 6, 2006 from the Most Excellent Grand 

Chapter Holy Royal Arch Mason of Colorado Prince Hall Affiliated; presiding Most Excellent Grand High Priest Terence Jack-

son.  Our Court was named in honor of the late Dorothy L. Harrison, who contributed many hours of  me and knowledge in 

the forma on on the New Court for Colorado Springs.  Our Court consist of 20 loyal members:  The officers are:  Most An-

cient Matron; Merrissere Love , Most Worthy Joshua; Thomas Powell, Vice Ancient Matron; Carol Foster, Court Treasure; 

Joan Jackson, Secretary; Carolyn Fontane. 

I am very pleased to have had the opportunity to head this court and would like to see the court grow.  In order to grow we 

need to mo vate people to become more interested in the organiza on and hence be willing to join and help us improve the 

court.
