BANDON — The Southern Coos Hospital & Health Center will once again be offering free flu shots at its Annual Flu Shot Clinic, Friday, Oct. 25, beginning at 7 a.m. and continuing until 1 p.m. or until supplies run out.

This year the hospital will have available both high-dose vaccines for those 65 and over as well as regular-dose vaccines. Those wishing to receive flu shots are encour-

aged to come early and remain in their cars and medical staff will assist.

There is no charge for the flu shots but donations to the Southern Coos Health Foundation are encouraged and greatly appreciated. Foundation volunteers and Southern Coos Hospital & Health Center volunteers will be available to take donations and provide people with information about the work done by the Foundation.

BANDON — Halloween starts early with Crazy Cars & Critters at the Bandon Youth Center from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26.

The spooky afternoon includes Trunks or Treats, games, a pet costume contest and more. Admission is free with a canned food or other donation to Bandon Feeds the Hungry.

“We’re creating something for the entire family, from kids to parents to pets,” said Neal Davis of the Greater Bandon Association, which is sponsoring the event jointly with the Youth Center.

“Creating a decorated car trunk is a great family project and watching others enjoy your work is a treat.”

Families are encouraged to bring their own decorated vehicle to the event. Costumed pets are also welcome, with a prize going to the best pet outfit. There’s no cost to participate, other than a food or cash donation to Bandon Feeds the Hungry. The Bandon Rotary Club will donate a matching amount of the food collected, which benefit all local non-profit food assistance programs.

“We appreciate Rotary's generosi-

ty,” said Davis. “It’s so important to remind kids that giving can be as fun as receiving.”

Several local businesses are partici-pating in the festivities. Decorated cars should be in the Youth Center (101 11th St SW) parking lot by 2 p.m. Weather will determine whether games are in or out-doors.

Questions can be directed to Neal Davis at [email protected] or by phone or text to 541-551-1663, or by call-ing the Youth Center at 541-347-8336.

COOS COUNTY - Coos County 2019-2020 property tax statements were mailed Oct. 15. Property owners, who have not received their bill by the first week of November should contact the tax office.

To avoid any late charges, payment must be received or postmarked by Nov. 15.

Due to an error, Bandon residents should wait to pay their 2019-20 taxes until they receive a corrected statement. According to Mayor Mary Schamehorn, a city staff member incorrectly certified the bonds, resulting in slightly higher tax bills on the City of Bandon bond portion of the statement.

The county will be reissuing cor-rected statements, but it may not happen until sometime after Nov. 1, but still in time for people to receive the 2 percent discount for paying by Nov. 15.

"I know that a number of people probably paid their taxes the day they received their statement, and I am not sure whether a refund will be issued or a credit given on next year's taxes," Schamehorn said. "But as soon as we receive the information from the county, we will let people know."

Coos County will process 2019-2020 property tax payments through its bank’s payment center in Portland. This will speed up the delivery of tax dollars to

the cities, schools, ports, hospitals and other districts in the county.

Payments may be made by mail or in person at the Coos County Tax Office, 250 North Baxter St., Coquille. Credit card payments are accepted in the office or online. Tax office hours are 8 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-5 p.m.
