Please remember that the guest fee to attend the monthly dinner meetings is now $30. More reason to have your guest join the Moraga Movers. Also, if your guest does not attend and you did not cancel, you will be billed for the dinner. This is necessary because we are required to give a accurate count to the caterer and have to pay for the meals that are not consumed.

BRIDGE

Every Monday, including holidays, bridge players meet at Moraga Royale from 12:30 to 3:30 PM. Coffee, tea and refreshments are served. An individual contribution of $1.00 is collected to provide for refreshments and prize money at your table. These games are sponsored by the Moraga Movers for its own membership. The generous goodwill of Moraga Royale is greatly appreciated.

CLASSIC MOVIES Larry Swindell

The Moraga Movers-sponsored classic movie at the Rheem Theater on Wednesday, September 13 is none other than CITIZEN KANE, recognized throughout the world as one of the greatest films of all time. Orson Welles at age 25 directed the movie and co-wrote the screenplay, and acted the title role of newspaper magnate Charles Foster Kane.

Please note that this screening will be on the second Wednesday in September rather than the third. Show time is 2 PM in the main downstairs theater.

Bocce season is upon us!!!! Bocce will be played every Thursday from 10 AM until noon on the courts just beyond the bandstand at the Moraga Commons. The cost is all of $2. The game is really easy to learn and is great fun, including a lot of good chat. Just show up!

FINAL SUMMER CONCERT AT THE MORAGA COMMONS Join your friends and neighbors on Thursday evening, August 17th from 6:30-8:30 for free music and fun at the park. The concession stand opens at 6:00. Bring your blankets or lawn chairs for the grassy hillside in front of the bandstand. This will be the final concert of the summer.

Due to budget cuts, beginning with our Fall 2017 Parks and Recreation Department Activity Guide, the Town will no longer print and mail Activity Guides to every home in Moraga. Classes, activities, trips, and events will stay the same and a digital Activity Guide will be shared and can be accessed at moragarec.com. Hard copies of the guide will be available at the Parks and Recreation Office, Town Hall, and Moraga Library.

If you would like to continue receiving a hard copy of the Winter/Spring (January-May), Summer (June-August), & Fall (August-December) Activity Guides in the mail, please go to moragarec.com and fill out the “Opt-In” form.

HACIENDA NIGHTS FRIDAYS: AUGUST 25, September 8 - 5 - 9 PM HACIENDA DE LAS FLORES, 2100 DONALD DRIVE There will be two more Hacienda Nights events at the Hacienda de las Flores on Friday, August 25, and Friday, September 8, from 5:00 to 9:00 PM. Families can enjoy food trucks, lawn games, and more! The events are hosted by the Moraga Parks and Recreation Department, and sponsored in part by the Hacienda Foundation of Moraga and the Moraga Park Foundation. The 18th Annual Moraga Pear & Wine Festival will be held Saturday, September 23, 2016 at the Moraga Commons Park.

Extended Trips

The Moraga Parks and Recreation Department is proud to announce we will now be offering extended trips as part of our program offering! After researching many different Trips and Tour companies, comparing their trip destinations, pricing, policies and a number of other factors, we have decided to work with TravelCenter Tours and Travel. This company is based in Pleasant Hill, and the owners live in Moraga! We have chosen two fantastic trips to offer to you.

The first trip will be a New England Fall Foliage tour from October 4-12. The second trip scheduled for April 11-21, 2018 is a River Cruise during Tulip Time on the Romantic Rhine and Mosel Rivers (2 for 1 airfare).

Paris fashion meets fine art! A docent from the DeYoung Museum will discuss the ongoing exhibit at the Legion of Honor featuring works by Impressionist heavyweights such as Degas, Toulouse-Latrec, and Manet, as well as over 60 exquisite examples of period hats.

EVENTS AT THE NEW RHEEM AND ORINDA THEATERS

The CA Independent Film Festival is just around the corner, launching its 20th year on Thursday, September 7 and running through September 16. From the 1,000 film submissions from every continent except Antarctica, 75 have been chosen to delight us, enlighten us, and motivate us. Besides the films, many actors, directors, and film producers will be heading to Moraga as guests to participate in Q&As after their film has been shown. Films will be screened in both the Rheem and Orinda theatres. Read about the film synopses online, as well as securing tickets. Go to www.caiff.org. Click on Festival Schedule. OTHER LAMORINDA HAPPENINGS The American Association of University Women (AAUW) Showcase meeting will take place September 19 at 9:30 AM at the Orinda Community Church Fellowship Hall, 10 Irwin Way, Orinda. Guests and visitors are welcome! The meeting will feature Ann White, an ambassador of Road Scholar, a not-for-profit leader in educational travel. She will speak about the history of this organization, its mission and the wide variety of travel experiences they offer. Branch Priorities will present a quick plan for the coming year. Priorities are sponsoring Burckhalter School in Oakland, Tech Trek STEM camp for 8th grade girls, and Expanding Your Horizons STEM conference. The meeting will also start the year with informational presentations about the many interest groups and service opportunities available to AAUW members. October 3, Tuesday, the Annual Restaurant Walk in Walnut Creek, 6 to 9 PM (20 restaurants). This is an important fundraiser for Tech Trek, AAUW’s scholarship fund for local middle school girls to attend a science and math camp. October 14, 2017, 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM The Lamorinda Branch of AAUW is holding its 4th Annual Tech Trek Shred-Fest, a secure paper shredding event. Shred Papers on Site: Rain or Shine at 5A Rent-a-Space, 455 Moraga Road • Moraga $7 per file box • Keep your boxes. Local volunteers unload and dump papers, then return empty boxes. All proceeds fund scholarships to send Lamorinda girls to science camp.
