The Sun in Scorpio from the 24th October shines light into the realm of our innermost and perhaps hidden desires. It is as if the Cosmos holds a mirror up to our shadow self and asks; “To what is it that you are so deeply attached, what is the fuel that lights your passion, is it worthy of your Soul’s intent?” The 12th November offers a lovely celestial line up for all to drink in. Can we distil the essence of past emotional experience and unify through collective vision? Can we open our hearts for healing by aligning our individual selves with the collective Self?

As Pluto continues its journey through your

solar sector of networking and communication this month, the Sunny birthday returns may be met with a preoccupation for some communication of the deep and meaningful kind. Careful Sister Scorp; you may come across as overly stern, bossy or even possessed by an inner critic of the sack-cloth wearing variety. Better to focus on the healing potential available as you transform your experience of home, family and creative self. You may feel pressured to put some renewed passion into your career and to simultaneously revitalise your connection to inner self. By mid November you may get clarity on the issue. Reflection on an old wound or outdated paradigm may bring jewels of inspiration to the surface of your consciousness.

Don’t get caught up in over-identification with any particular

group. Be that a circle of friends, an ideological/religious herd or political system. Avoid obsessive tendencies over the minutiae of membership requirements of such groups. An increased awareness of some home truths could bring an expanded vision of the way you plug into the collective. The pressure is on to refocus your direction in terms of your output in the community; be guided by your heart and offer your ideas with love and courage. Think about your carbon hoof prints as if you really matter.

Can you let the flames of passion and alchemy infuse your ethical

self without feeling that you are being pulled off path? Look in the mirror; you may notice that you are not actually a nun or monk this time around. Your personality feels the push to work smarter, not harder and to accept some recognition graciously. The full Moon could see you in the garden at night, burying any spark of repressed creativity under a pile of rocks, or conversely, letting your insight flow and hang out there for all to see.

You may be feeling as though you are wearing both your inner sage and the village idiot (if that doesn’t fit

try psycho pomp and world saviour) on your sleeve this month. Best throw those old, threadbare ideas of how you vicariously help yourself via nurturing others to the bottom of the Great Western Trench. Take heart, with the full moon you’ll feel more emotionally attuned to the necessity of working toward realising your own deepest dreams.

A beautiful experience is making waves and stirring your depths. What was once fun now holds no joy and seems to increase

the distance between you and the Universal Collective Consciousness. You want to protect your emotional core but life has other ideas. Enjoy the pleasures of an initiation into earthly and physical communication. Let the Full moon enhance your unique inner glow. The heavens offer a double blessing on the 12th that brings renewed vigour and bliss.

Responsibilities at work (whether that be at home or in the wider

world) may leave you feeling like you are nailed to the filing-cabinet sized list of things to do. It may be that whilst you have been focussed on pushing your way to the top of that mountain, you take a breather and realise you have nothing left inside, or worse, the eagles are all but eating your bones, publicly! Be assured, dearest Ram, you are on the right path to a lush pasture. The pressure stays on, but soon after the new moon on the 17th, you may feel more at home with the workload and able to enjoy wide-ranging benefits.

Challenges from partners, work mates, in the home, seemingly everywhere. Confusing

miscommunication - “it’s all too hard and I am not having any fun”. You would be excused, (not), for charging (verbally) into the nearest gate post (family member) and sinking those glorious horns of plenty in too deep. Temperance, patience, be sweet to your dear ones. The full moon in your sign helps you remember the magnificent, generous creature you are. The new moon will see tension ease and issues with study or travel may get some relief too.

P.S. If the real problem seems to be at work, note to self – Leave it there!

great rhythmical pulse of the Moon. Ancient Moon calendars such as the 5,000 year-old stone megalith at Stonehenge near Glastonbury mark with intricate accuracy the passing of the seasons, zodiacal positions, the Moon cycles and eclipses. Even the extra one day of each year was accounted for.

In 45 AD, Julius Caesar reformed the calendar, giving us 12 months of unequal days. As the number thirteen was associated with the Goddess, this new calendar was another means to reduce Her power and the number thirteen was rejected as evil at worst and unlucky at best.

As I write this, the Full Moon shines down on me through the

window at my desk and I am bathed in her beautiful soft glow. It’s magical

and sublime, this lunar spell. The fine sliver of the Crescent Moon, the radiant Full Moon and the mysterious dark of the New Moon were powerful images to the ancients and her phases of light and darkness have impacted deeply onto the human psyche. Nursery rhymes, pop songs, myths and folk stories are full of evocative lunar images that stir our imagination and emotions and she is sometimes romantic and helpful, sometimes treacherous and sinister.

The time of the Dark of the Moon was associated with the dark mysterious and the virgin goddesses of life and death, magic and mystery – like the child in the womb - Hecate, Artemis, Lilith, Persephone, Kali Ma, Medusa, Ereshkigal, Sekhmet, Tiamut, Caillech, Skadi, Masay, Black Tara, the Black Fairy. The Dark of the Moon was traditionally the time when women bled and in many cultures they retreated from their daily work together to rest, tell stories and sing their songs, deepening their bonds and offering healing and support. In the yearly cycle, the dark moon phase is like winter, the natural time of rest and replenishing.

Slowly the Moon emerges from her dark retreat as the beautiful silver crescent, when feelings are tender and fragile like a new born infant. There is a sense of new life, of hope. And so night by night the light of the Moon grows until she is once again full and round, ripe and lush like a pregnant woman, the Mother. This Full Moon phase is the Goddesses of fertility and abundance – Demeter, Ceres, Isis, Innana, Ishtar, Mary, Ann, An, Hera.

The Moon’s phases reflect the cycles of woman’s life from newborn infant to young girl, to the onset of menstruation of the young maiden, to the mother. Then the flow of blood ceases and we become the Crone or wise elder, offering our experience and counsel to the young women, eventually preparing for death and the return to the arms of the Divine Mother. Each month we experience this cycle as the birth, fulfilment and completion of an idea, a project, a relationship.

The following Lunar Cycle Table can be a guide for you to bring awareness to your natural rhythms. Each Moon cycle begins with the New Moon in the next astrological sign, giving each cycle its’ own particular quality. Note your feelings, moods and energy

levels through these cycles, perhaps keeping a journal or sharing with your girlfriends. Many of you will have Lunar Calendars which track the passage of the Moon through each sign and through her phases. These are wonderful aides to bringing your life into more of a natural rhythm, balancing the fluctuating tides of your energy cycles and establishing more harmony and health in your life.

New Moons are times of new beginnings and it serves us well to take out a little time for ourselves to rest and replenish, to nourish ourselves with what we need and to connect with the quiet voice within. Meditation can be very deep at this time.

On November 17th, the new lunar cycle begins with the powerful New Moon in Scorpio, a sign of deep emotional passion and regenerative intensity. Powerful feelings stir and as we delve into our inner world, we can connect with deeper truths within, truths that support the transformational energies of the new 4 week cycle. Scorpio is the sign of endings, death and disintegration and demands a dive into the underworld. It may be painful, dark and confronting, but if we have dived well, we rise again from the ashes of the old, and like the phoenix, are reborn, regenerated, purified and empowered.

Full Moon is a time of high energy, joy and activity – the fruition of the cycle that began 2 weeks previously at the New Moon. Energies are peaking and the light of the cycle brings revelation and inspiration. Mediation at this time will be heightened and ecstatic.

In subsequent Moon and You articles, we’ll explore more of the mythology of the Moon and the Moons’ phases. We’ll also investigate the many ways of working with the Moon, such as in medical astrology, fertility, lunar planting, food issues and the meanings of the Moon in the different astrological signs.
