A BRIEF HISTORY OF MOOCS

Harvard’s first MOOC has 370,000 registered students 2012: Coursera launches from Stanford; offers first xMOOCs New York Times calls 2012 “The Year of the MOOC”

TYPES OF MOOCS
Just as any other type of learning, one has the liberty to choose any MOOC of their choice. There are 2 types of MOOCS available online:
1. X-MOOC X-MOOCs have their background in the rise of open course ware They appear to have developed out of the idea of OpenCourseWare and Open Educational
Resources. The "X" in X-MOOC doesn't stand for anything specifically. But X-MOOCs are typically offered by a university in partnership with a for profit organization.
2. C-MOOC The term C-MOOC refers to a MOOC designed to emphasize connecting learners. C-MOOC stands for Connectivist MOOC. C-MOOCs are built upon the idea and platform originally envisioned by George Siemens. SOURCE: http://oertools.weebly.com/types-of-moocs.html

MY FIELD OF INTEREST
My fields of interest are English (Grammar and Literature) and adolescent career development.
The MOOC that I will choose, though, will be about English literature. Anything from poetry to South African stories.
I am also interested in adolescent English teaching so finding a MOOC that has a focus on adolescent reading interests would be great.

WHY THIS MOOC???
I choose this type of MOOC because as an English major, anything that has to do with the English language and literature fascinates me.
This MOOC has to be time-efficient and not time consuming, so it will not affect my current school work
I believe that taking part in an English literature MOOC will enhance my knowledge of the English language.
