Poppies on the High Street
The red dots along the High Street are poppies on the lamp posts and along the river. Put up by Midsomer Norton Town Council and the Midsomer Norton and Radstock Branch of the Royal British Legion to begin our period of Remembrance.
Remembrance SundayTo commemorate Remembrance Sunday this year, Midsomer Norton Town Council have purchased large poppies from the British Legion for the lamp posts in the High Street. They are working with the Midsomer Norton and Radstock Branch of the Royal British Legion for the laying of the wreaths in honour of the men who sacrificed their lives during World War I and II.

It has been brought to our attention that there are more and more advertising boards being erected around the Town, and some are even being fixed to highway signs. Where we are notified of such an incident, we will endeavour to contact the relevant business or owner of the sign, requesting that the signs be removed.
Vandalism at the Town ParkMidsomer Norton Town Council are very disappointed to report continued vandalism at the Town Park. On the weekend of the 25th of October, a new security gate and gateposts were dislodged. Witnesses report seeing a large group of youths working together to deliberately damage the gate. A lock from the gate is missing. The new feature walls at the entrance of the Town Park were also badly damaged, with the topper stones being displaced.
Allotments in Lockdown
Great big cabbages, kale, pumpkins and salad leaves - October produce from Midsomer Norton Allotments. Going to your allotment is classed as a form of exercise by the Government during lockdown, and many people have found tending their plot and growing produce to be a huge benefit.
October at Midsomer Norton Allotment
Growing greens and a visiting pheasant exploring the paths. There are approximately 70 plots of varying sizes at the Midsomer Norton Allotments.
Pumpkins, Strawberry Plants and Edible Nasturtium FlowersThe Allotment Association invoices all tenants and collect all rents into its own bank account. An annual sum is then be paid on invoice to the Council for the following services:
• General maintenance of the access road, boundary fences, car-parking areas
• Public Liability Insurance
• Provision and maintenance of the current water supply
• Payment of all rates and taxes as may be charged upon the Allotment Garden
• Provision of any necessary pest control measures

Grants
Every year Midsomer Norton Town Council give out £20,000 in grants to charities and community groups in the town. The grants are used to help the community of Midsomer Norton. Since 2011 £245,000 has been awarded to groups including MENCAP, Age UK and the Youth Club. There are 3 different types of grants that can be applied for – Small grant – grants of up to £500, Community Grant - for larger projects and revenue grants which are paid over 3 years.

Town Park Entrance Walls
The curved feature walls have been built from local white liasstone with lettering spelling out “TOWN PARK” framed in rusting Corten steel, built into the wall. The steel reflects the past industrial nature of the site. The wall also includes a band of black stone as a hint of a coal seam, subtly reflecting the past coal mining history.
