MISSION STATEMENT—We, the community of St. Catherine of Siena Parish, located within the larger, diverse and artistic seaside community of Laguna Beach, recognize and celebrate the uniqueness which is grounded in the sacred mysteries and traditions of the Roman Catho-lic Church and in the history and lives of our individuals, families and leaders. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION On the First Friday of each month we gather in prayer and praise before the Blessed Sacrament. Following the 8 a.m. Mass and concluding at 8 p.m. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Parents of infants requesting information about Baptism may contact Father Ken in the parish office. Infant baptisms are celebrated on the second Saturday of the month.

CELEBRATION OF CHRISTIAN FUNERALS At the time of death, a family member should contact the parish office, as soon as possible, to arrange the date and time for the Funeral Liturgy.

SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY Couples must begin preparation for their Sacrament at least six months prior to their proposed wedding date. Please call the parish office for more information.

SACRAMENT OF THE SICK The third Saturday of each month after the 8:00 a.m. Mass. In the event of serious illness or medical emergency, Anointing of the Sick and Eucharist may be arranged by contacting the parish office

At Our Parish

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM NEWS!

Early registration for our Religious Education Program in the fall begins July 1st. Those students who attended last year will receive a registration packet in the mail. Those who register before August 31st will pay an early bird registration fee. New families who want to register their children can come to the parish office Monday – Thursday from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. or you may call for registration packet to be sent to you. You must bring a copy of your child’s Baptism certificate to registration. Confir-mation registrations must include a copy of your child’s Baptism and Confirmation certificates. Our Elementary Religious Education classes are on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-7:30 p.m. for grades 1st through 8th. Our Confirmation preparation classes are twice a month on Sundays from 4:00 – 6:30 p.m. Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation begins in the 9th grade. It is important that you are a registered member of St. Catherine’s Parish. If you have any questions please call our Director, Gina Stewart at 494-9701 ext. 119.

Gina Stewart is collecting school supplies and backpacks to give to the children of our parish who are need of these items! You can bring them to the parish office during the week or place them in the containers marked school supplies in the church. God bless you for your loving kindness and generosity in helping our children in need!

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE En el año 2001, Carlos Manuel Rodríguez Santiago se convirtió en el primer laico caribeño beatificado por la Iglesia. Su vida fue ejemplar en la caridad y en el amor a la liturgia, pues promovió la participación de los fieles de una manera activa, mucho antes de que el Concilio Vaticano II así lo pidiera. En 1963 una colitis rectal muy severa lo llevó a los brazos de Cristo resucitado, a la edad de 44 años. Carlitos, como muchos lo llaman, trabajó en la Universidad de Puerto Rico y fundó un grupo apostólico laical en el Centro Católico de dicha universidad. Allí pudo obrar por el desarrollo del humanismo cristiano, la partici-pación activa de los laicos en la liturgia de la Iglesia y por la renovación de la Vigilia Pascual. Solía decir que los cristianos “vivimos para esa noche” como cumbre y centro de nuestra fe. Carlitos es modelo para los laicos comprometidos con su fe. Él insistía no sólo en una participación activa en la pastoral de la Iglesia, sino también en la liturgia de la Iglesia en una época donde la Misa todavía se considera-ba obra exclusiva de los sacerdotes.
