SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT—MARCH 8, 2020

Transforming Our Everyday Lives: Fr. Anthony De Mello tells that “he was a revolutionary when he was young, and all his prayer to God was: ‘Lord, give me the grace to change the world.’ As he ap-proached middle age and realized that half of his life was gone without changing a single soul, he changed his prayer to: ‘Lord, give me the grace to change all those who come in contact with me; just my family and friends and I shall be satisfied.’ Now that he is old and his days are numbered, he has begun to see how foolish he had been. His one prayer now is: ’Lord, give me the grace to change my-self.’ He said: If I had prayed for this right from the start, I should not have wasted my life.” The read-ings of this Sunday invite us to work with the assistance of the Holy Spirit to transform our everyday

lives and to radiate the glory and grace of the transfigured Lord which we have received to all around us by our Spirit-filled lives. The primary purpose of Jesus’ Transfiguration was to allow Jesus to consult his Heavenly Father in order to ascertain His plan for His Son’s suffering, death and Resurrection. In moments of doubt, pain and suffering, disappoint-ment and despair, we need mountain-top experiences to reach out to God and listen to His consoling words: “This is my beloved son/daughter in whom I am well pleased.”

Passion Narratives: St Jerome says “Ignorance of scripture is ignorance of Christ”. One of the beauties of the Catholic Church is the teaching Magisterium. The more we read and learn about Bible the more we know about the immense love of God toward us. During this Lent we have this wonderful opportunity to learn more about the Passion Narratives by the four gospel writers. Fr. Tony Shonis will be here to inspire us four Mondays starting from March 9th, at 6:00 pm in the Parish Hall. Let us make use of this wonderful opportunity to grow in our faith.

Youth 2000: Every year youth from all over the diocese gather together for a Lenten Retreat called “Youth 2000” at Brescia. It’s wonderful to see almost 600 youth from our diocese gather together around the Blessed Sacrament and pray and worship together. The retreat is being conducted by the Franciscan friars from New York. We have 14 of our youth attending this retreat this weekend so let us offer our prayers for all of them that they be transformed.

Lenten Penance: There is a story of a father trying to explain Lent to his ten-year-old son. At one point, the father said, “You ought to give up something for Lent, something you will really miss, like candy.” The boy thought for a moment, then asked, “What are you giving up, Father?” “I’m giving up liquor,” the father replied. “But before dinner you were drinking something,” the boy protested. “Yes, but that was only beer,” said the father. “I gave up hard liquor.” To which the boy replied, “Well then, I think I’ll give up hard candy.”

God's blessings Fr. Suneesh Mathew

MARRIAGE IS WORTHY OF INVESTMENT St. Paul tells us that marriage is an analogy of the relationship between Christ and the Church. Marriage should be life-giving and full of grace. It should be prioritized and invested in. It’s that important! Grace Marriage is a quarterly approach where couples spend six hours every 90 days investing in their marriage. In

2020, there will be several groups offered for Catholic couples in the Owensboro area. Registration is now open at OwensboroDiocese.org/Grace-Marriage.
